Dillthedog, re MAG.
It'll be interesting to see how MAG play this, considering their past form and 'refusing to be prostituted' at MAN itself.
I know MAN and BOH are *completely* different airports, but do we think it may be slightly hypocritical of MAG to bow to FR at BOH? Although its looking like if they want any pax at the airport this winter they may have to...

This has been known about for a while, just that Thomas Cook seem to have only just officially announced it now

Southampton has been getting a lot of inbound 'Cruise' holiday associated movements last week - MD-80's, A320's & B738's. Even EXT is getting some traffic.
How come Bournemouth isnt getting any of this business? With the longer runway and better weather capability surely this is a competitive advantage?

May 2010 Passenger Figures Promising
May 2010 Passenger figures make for encouraging reading.
Almost 76,000 passengers handled in May 2010, down 5% on May 2009 - the first time it has registered single digit falls for some months.
Big losses accounted for: PIK, EDI, MRS, LGS plus frequency reductions on DUB, FAO, HER, GRO, CFU.
Excellent performance on the following routes:
IBZ up 300%
RHO up 76%
PFO up 63%
TFS up 95%
DLM up 65%
MIR up 41%
ALC up 18%
MHN up 41%
AGP up 4%
MJV up 4%
PMI up 3%
PSA up 0.2%
New routes also doing 'OK' include: Bodrum, Antalya, Las Palmas, Fuerteventura, Arrecife, Valencia, Malta & Sharm El Sheikh
International passengers carried (around 73,000) compared to EXT (around 50,000) and SOU (around 63,000) were much stronger showing the potential the airport has.
Domestic flights were pretty non-existent apart from the start of MAN (27th May) and paltry performance of the bmibaby JER service.

Ryanair Loosing South Coast Passengers
Ryanair Loosing South Coast Passengers
It is stated in the Local Bournemouth Echo Newspaper that Ryanair is slashing its winter capacity at UK
airports by nearly 16% with Stansted around 17%
Passengers are frustrated as the airline has not uploaded the winter
schedules from Bournemouth as the spokesperson of Ryanair said they are
unsure when they would upload the schedules.
Ryanair are concerned that the UK traffic and tourism continues to collapse
whereas Ryanair continues to grow abroad. They are concerned about UK
tourist tax or airport departure tax.
Ryanair are switching unneeded aircraft from London to European bases due to
less tax costs abroad.
As it says in the Echo - paper version.

Arrivals
Has work started on the construction for the arrivals building yet?
How long will people have to put up with portacabin arrivals despite a multi-million pound departures terminal?!

I believe work is starting on the arrivals building at end of the summer
At the moment the front of the airport is being smartened up with traffic lights road alignment , pavements etc all being put in place to the front of the terminal
The Air Traffic Control training centre is closing down next year , so a rather large building originally orange ! is going to become vacant . Dont know what plans are in store for this , possible hotel would be obvious but could eventually be knocked down for ramp space or extension to the terminal
However before all that happens we need to get an airline in now that is going to commit to Bournemouth and grow with it ( still no sign of Ryanairs winter plan and time is marching on , the airport will loose valuable passengers )

I'm also guessing work will begin on the new arrivals hall at the end of the summer season, less disruption airside as possible while the summer flights are still in progress. If it's going to be so quiet this winter then it makes common sense to wait a short while & have it all ready for spring the ramp-up next year.
The old "Nat's" building will be demolished, but I can't see it being used for any further extension to the departures terminal, possibly only a tweek to the hold baggage make-up area is required to give it room for future growth.
Hopefully the Nat's footprint is earmarked for some sort of road development to ease the vehicle entry/exit side of things to the airport, a good sized junction with lights or even a large roundabout would help keep traffic flowing at busy periods.
I think there was also a future plan for a car park along the perimeter fence line, maybe it would start from the reclaimed Nat's area??

Flybe - losing out to LCY
Flybe seem to be encouraging through traffic on the new BOH-MAN service, with all those drop down routes offered.
But not sure how it will sell, or be reputed. I have tried to use BOH for several recent sectors, but the dwell time at MAN makes the option a non-starter in most cases. A four hour scheduled wait is not unusual.
Come on Flybe, lets have a daily BOH-EDI, GLA & BFS, and better connecting times at MAN.
How's the MAN service settling in?
Us SLF types don't just use SOU as an alternative when no service is available from BOH! There a lot of us down on the coast, and we go wherever works and makes sense for the day and the route.
Btw LCY does the back up trick nicely, with a good link from Waterloo. Easier to get to, more reliable, and quicker to use that either LHR, LGW or BRS.

FR to Close BOH Base
Senior FR management on station Thursday to deliver crushing news to cabincrew that no a/c's to be based here this winter. This will deliver a massive kick in the teeth to the MAG group after 45m investment. This will bring the airport to its knee's this winter making it impossible for any third partys to operate. watch this space!!!!!!

Surely this cant be true ? ?
I could understand only 1 based aircraft again this winter but down to nothing and closing the base / crew does not make sense , Bournemouth has constantly given good loads to the winter sun destinations and to give it all up is beyond belief
So Thursday is the day ?

Ryanair
If this is true it will be a great shame, but i wonder if Mag group had prior knowledge of this. The next question who might or could replace them, personally i would like to see Easyjet base a couple of planes. They make Geneva work very well in the winter i think that could be a all year round route plus others.

When will you very few Bouremouth fans get it into your heads that the airport is a dead dog until the transport links improve. A rail link is essential. Dorset is a very small county in more ways than just the population.
Get real Bournemouth is a no go for any real expansion.
