Total Rubbish
Let no one be fooled, this is about Ryanair lining themselves up to get a better deal at BOH come February.
As some folk have noticed the £11 tax is all year round, and loads from BOH are not bad in the winter months if they do the correct routes.
MAG are on the back foot and under massive pressure, they will be right on the brink by next Feb, best thing they can do is offer an unbeatable deal to Flybe, so they can avoid all the disruption that UNITE will cause when the they start striking at BAA airports.
Ryanair have spent all summer trying to finish off Palmair & Thomson at BOH, by copying the Holiday Routes. Now it time to turn the screw on MAG.
Best thing all round if Ryanair off into the distance and BOH gets a broad range of carriers that can offer a wide range of routes with the correct size Aircraft for the route.
Let the Games begin !!

i think you guys are missing the point - the airport will never grow a backbone strong enough to show the finger to FR. What the airport dont realise is that by not showing the finger they are allowing themselves to be sodomised by FR. I agree with shamrock - no airline will be interested now FR have said that this is temporary!

There hasnt been much talk about Ryanair pulling the Bournemouth to Dublin route, which has been in operation since 1996, Unfortunately it isnt on the spring schedule. Do you thinik that anyone else will step in to this route. Flybe would be an ideal candidate. Ive been told that this route is often busy

A very well expressed explanation.
However, Ryanair are implying that the £11 tourist tax as they call it, is a new tax of £11 per passenger. IT IS NOT. It is a £1 increase to the current £10 Airport Passenger Duty. Their statement on this tax, whilst not incorrect in the wording, is very misleading as a reason for suspending operations between November and January.
I cannot believe that a £1 increase would in any way deter any potential passengers irrespective of the month of the year.

The only airline in my view likely to fill the void on Dublin Bournemouth would be Aer Lingus Regional (RE). However, they are discontinuing MME and DSA for the winter so I cant see why they would now see BOU as any more attractive than either of those airports.
In terms of Flybe doing the route,, Ryanair and Flybe stay well out of each others way. Flybe have a savy formulaof reasonably high frequency on aircraft that are suited to many of these type of routes with low operating costs. For BE to operate this route they would need a W pattern or a new base. Neither in my view are likely.
Could bmibaby or Jet2 be attracted to the airport in the context of a Ryaniar withdrawl? WW have closed there Jersey route quickly enough but with Ryanair with such a big presence at their primary base at EMA would they look to BOU?

I dont understand Ryanair1's agenda. Any blind man can see MOL is trying to squeeze BOH. Ryanair has publicly stated Ryanit will operate as normal in Spring but they wont. The Dublin route has just disappeared. I really hope BOH stand up to him and give it to someone else .... but they wont

The Dublin Bournemouth was announced as a closure for winter some weeks ago when Ryanair was announcing major winter cut backs at Dublin airport. I personally think that here we are again, a route that would be much better suited to a smaller aircraft at a higher frequency. I believe the route is being axed because it is not especially profitable in the winter, simple as that.
The sad matter is here, that in the recession, it is difficult for smaller regional airport to replace lost business or attract new operators.
Eg's
Durham Tees Valley
Blackpool
Doncaster Sheffield (to a lesser extent in that Easyjet have come along)
Humberside
Manston
Is BOU a credible substitute for SOU airport? or how close together are they? Would an airline such as BE be able to transfer all SOU Operations to BOU and maintain numbers? SOU has short runway that could not accomodate 737s- is this true or false?

False. 737's, 757s have all operated regularly from SOU fromt he good old days of Britannia and Hispania to more recently Transavia, Air Berlin and even Jet 2

That may well be true, unless of course it's raining, then they divert to BOH, just incase they end up sliding onto the M27.
Also not entirley sure but doubt they can still operate with full load of PAX fuel and Bags, certainly regards the 757.
Could Flybe move ? Impending Strikes and disruption at BAA, Always problems with the Weather at SOU, coupled with the fact that a large percentage of their PAX come from BOH area and further west. With the right deal I think they would consider it.
Any operator will want guarantees that Ryanair won't be allowed back.
Question is have MAG got the balls to do that ?
Answer - I very much doubt it

with regards to aircraft opperating from sou ,the 757 can opperate from sou full with 235 pax as far as tenerife i been on that flight but the 737 a smaller aircraft cant even take off with full load off passengers ,the 757 has a much better performance on shorter runways but then you need the passengers to make the flight viable .col

"If Bournemouth airport offered airport fees including handling and security charges FREE for those months, you would be operating."
As Bournemouth operates with a CAA "Public Use" Aerodrome Licence, there is a small matter of Condition 1 of that licence, namely
"The aerodrome is licensed for public use and shall at all times when it is available for the take-off or landing of aircraft be so available to all persons on equal terms and conditions."
Consequently the offer of freebies would have to be extended to everyone. As BOH operates as a business (ie to make a profit) cannot see that happening.

I used to work at SOU and I can confirm that 737's used to go full with no problem to PMI and MAH, on a saturday we used to get a 320 go full to PMI with no problems whatsoever.

Alternative airlines??
Ok I think we are all mostly agreed that Ryanair are up to their usual tricks, ie hold the airport to ransom for 3 months & come back with a "personalised" deal so that they can further undercut any other competition next spring/summer, that's the only way they can actually acheive anything because with a level playing field they don't stand a chance against any of the other Lcc's.
My question to those in the know is.. what other operators have lets say 80- 90 seat a/c that could make a viable & sustainable go of domestic & short European city destinations??

I had flown out of southampton on a 757. The first 5-7 rows where empty.
Was a scary take off rolling down the runway still on the ground past the terminal knowing the m27 wasn't far away.

With Ryanair out of the picture for 3 months i really hope that the airport are actively now, seeking a new reliable operator to consider Bournemouth as an operation
Its been said many times that a 189 seater is just to big for some of the routes and a 150 seater is the way to go and even less for some domestic routes if they can find an airline to commit
Very difficult in this present climate though , and with Ryanair back in Feb no one i guess could get anything up and running by Nov
Prehaps Thomson may consider some extra routes this winter now as they have spare capacity on a few days of the week and would make a killing on the Alicante / Malaga route as they pulled off because of Ryanair
Palmair may well do the same . They are announcing at the end of July there winter programme , as they have been holding off on waiting to see what Ryanair were up to .
Even someone like Monarch would make a few £ by operating a W pattern from LGW to Alicante / Malaga both very popular destinations from Bournemouth
A terrible situation to be in for the airport so soon after opening the terminal

Alternative Airlines
Domestic Routes :
Flybe. Very little potential as too close to SOU.
Air South West. Would probably do well with couple of based aircraft at BOH serving Scotland and Ireland, but in the present economic climate not going to happen.
International:
With FR still looming next spring, no one is likely to move in. Easyjet, Jet2 and BMI Baby will stay well clear unless FR pull out completely, which is unlikely.
Looking very bleak this coming winter. Thomson and Palmair with their charters, Easyjet to Geneva and Flybe to Manchester. Wow.

Its a shame to see FR going 'seasonal' at BOH, particularly after the opening of the expanded terminal facilities. Hopefully a gap will be filled, if not this winter then next, by Palmair or Thomson?
It could be worse though, look at BOH's little brother up here! In the winter it will be ABZ, AMS on the departures board every day...

FLYBE
Perhaps more of a chance flybe would consider BOH-Domestics and some minimal EU routes considering the size and type of their order today??? The ERJ-175 with 88 seats would be ideal for BOH.
