Arrivals
Assuming approval is given for the new design of the arrivals building, the total works will be completed by mid-2011.
June 2010 is the official opening of the main departures building.
But the existing 3rd world style arrivals buildings will be in use until mid 2011; so in-bound passengers are not going to be in for a nice new experience at all.
New arrivals building has no toilets or shops or car rental spaces in the non-restricted areas - just an open air waiting area. How crazy! After spending millions on the departures building! Isn't Bournemouth tourism a little peeved at this? How short sighted that the airport doesnt think it needs to waste time or money on arrivals. It could be made to make money if it was good enough to house facilities!

Bournemouth handled 44 , 526 passengers in January down -29 % !
If you take away the loss of SZG , BVA , GNB , BGO , WRO and PIK routes from this year though the passengers handled were on par for January
Top performing routes were
1 ) Geneva 6518
2 ) Tenerife 5478
3 ) Edinburgh 5213
4 ) Malaga 4484
5 ) Alicante 3103
The cruise flights to Barbados and Acapulco also did well with loads of about 95 %

January performance
Most non-Ryanair routes did well, and Geneva in particular grew significantly on previous year. This should encourage easyJet. But i can't get over the shocking falls in number of pax on Dublin. January saw just shy of 3,000 pax, below that of the SOU-DUB route at 5,000 pax. A similar picture also applies to other Ryanair routes like Gerona. But the Dublin route in particular should be their bread and butter at BOH. Could there be potential for Aer Lingus Regional?
BOH performed better than DTV, DSA, EXT and other similar sized airports in Jan '10 which is one consolation.

Ryanair reduced the frequency on the GRO and DUB routes, that's why the loads were so low. On the airport website there's now a whole section regarding the new terminal and they will have it open this Spring!

BMIBABY hints at two aircraft for BOH
New BmiBaby service to fly between Bournemouth and Jersey
By Tim Saunders » 23rd Feb 2010
More than 24,000 passengers are forecast to use BmiBaby’s new Bournemouth to Jersey service from Bournemouth Airport.
The low cost carrier will start flying a Boeing 737-300 three times a week from the airport on Monday, March 29 for six months.
If it realises its projections, the airline will fly from Bournemouth throughout the year and could add new destinations.
Bournemouth represents the operator’s only expansion this year outside its four other bases at East Midlands, Cardiff, Manchester and Birmingham.
Julian Carr, commercial director at BmiBaby, said: “Jersey has worked at other bases – it allows us to do the route without basing an aircraft here. The plane will fly from East Midlands to Jersey, from Jersey to Bournemouth, from Bournemouth to Jersey and from Jersey back to East Midlands.
“This offers opportunities for ongoing growth – it’s a foot in the door – a huge opportunity to take traffic away from Southampton.
“We will know how well it will go a month after it starts.”
In coming to Bournemouth, the operator has drawn on its experience at other regional hubs such as Cardiff, which is a similar size to Bournemouth Airport. There, it has two aircraft, which fly 13 routes. “There’s a possibility for two aircraft at Bournemouth in the future, subject to success,” Mr Carr said, adding that each plane creates about 35 jobs.
Recession has seen “a lot of business travellers now flying economy class and holidaymakers only taking a main holiday instead of two or three”.
“As a low cost airline this works in our favour,” Mr Carr said. “Instead of paying premium prices, they are flying with low cost carriers.”
BmiBaby operates 14 planes, employs 550 staff, and is part of BMI, a trading name of British Midland Airways, who are owned by Lufthansa.

Hopefully having boh as a base will mean they can take over some ex ryanair routes such as EDI or GLA and add new city destinations such as belfast and amsterdam.
Also a 132 seat 737 500 would be far better than ryanair's 738's on shorter routes such as EDI and the other aircraft could be a 733 to operate the holiday routes.

Could this be the start of some investment from LH. Excellent news if it is! Agree on the front of some short haul city, combined with popular beach resorts - im sure that it could be a winner. Although where would this leave EZY??
If that were to happen then it would be some excellent news for BOH, hopefuly the nice new terminal will be used to full effect
Makes sense though, i agree that it would help to attract SOU customers back to BOH.

"Its not the lack off class A north of SOU but controllers keeping you High/low to avoid heathrow inbounds/outbounds around the CPT"
Thats definitely not the case. Inbound SOU I'm handed off to Solent from TC /SW descending FL80, often in the vicinity of CPT, plenty of time to get the height off for a straight-in on 20. No way does that happen, due to R41 base level FL65 until it joins the Solent CTA at about 12 DME. Solent then have to give us the hours building "Winchester orbit" after 12 DME to get the height off to establish on the ILS.

I live directly under the routings in and out of SOU (and BOH) to and from the north via the CPT area, and used to be well used to seeing traffic descending under what is now known as Deconfliction Service below CAS to a straight-in on 20 at SOU, for example - does this no longer happen?

That will be 2 aircraft on a W pattern ..maybe...could be..possibly ?
Note Carr did not say Based !!..Not unless LS and RYR kick their backsides in EMA and they need to run away..sorry I mean re-base in 2011
Well I guess the 35 extra cab drivers will be out buying their new mercs on the back of that statement then.
