I've been informed that most of the airfield, fixtures and fittings (ILS, Radar, ATC Equipment) are still owned by the Council and were leased to the previous owners.
Allegedly this is the difficulty with any new investors, the Council want to retain ownership and lease out the facilities.
If that is the case, no one is going to be interested in investing if they can't develop or even sell surplus land.
Something's got to give.

Well from what I have just heard it looks that they have been eating cucmber (repeating) ?...never mind...
My 'friend of the friend' at CCC has said 'they were devastated this morning when the Swiss pulled out'. However, they have now gone back cap in hand to the consortium that they could have had the deal with before Christmas until they got greedy when the Swiss offered more Toblerone than anybody else. Looks like CCC took the Cucumber and shoved it too hard again which is typical of them and now I wouldn't be surprised if the council messes this one up too as they wanting everything that the Swiss apparently offered...too good to be true....YOU BET !!
Hopefully get some more news in the morning. (I won't be stopping at the Oak tonight so don't worry). Off home to Leamington now to study more Air Law.

Well, sadly no news...
After my last visit on PPrune (around Christmas), I hoped to see better news on 2010, knowing that someone was intrested in buying Coventry...
But for what I've understood, CVT is still in the same position as before... If not worse... If you think about it, business are starting to "feel" the financial pressure due to the airport closure... Almat is one example, and it is the first "victim" of CVT... Probably and unfortunatly, it won't be the last one...
By the way, I am really sorry for Almat flying Club; I know the owner, I know the flight instructors there, and I was a member too... It was a great and friendly flying club in a good location!
Moreover if someone wants to buy teh airport has to do it now... With time, all the companies still based there(like AFT, Atlantic Airlines, Atlantic West, CVT Flying Club, Helicentre) will move somewhere else, and that will start to happen quite soon... These companies are taking big risks on daily basis, waiting for the outcome of CVT, but they can't afford to wait forever...
So let's hope in a positive outcome for CVT; and hopefully it won't be too late for all the activities and all the people involved in Coventry Airport.

So let's get this straight then........CCC have a potential buyer then another company comes in and when CCC sniff a few more shekels may be on the cards, they blow the first bidder out. Then the new bidder pulls out and CCC are left looking like a bunch of greedy a***holes and have to go back to the first bidder.
If that's a fair approximation of what has happened in the last 4 weeks then it's eerily reminiscent of the takeover saga 12/13 years ago.

The city centre redesign comes into mind, they dug up this road, and then ran out of money...... If the council is so strapped for cash you would think they would take what ever they were given for CVT!!

Whilst I'm less than a huge fan of the council's attempts at regeneration (Including the recent demolition of two old buildings by Cov Uni) the problem is really that there's little commercial interest in investing in the city centre due the lack of people using it... Hence why all the grand plans end up vanishing to be replaced by another watered down one...
The road that was dug up: the problem was a huge tunnel underneath it (Partly the basement of the original Owen Owen building that was bombed) was found to be structurally weak and this required much of the money for the project to be funneled into making it safe...
If Cov city centre was filled with leisure venue, residents, wasn't surrounded by four (Sometimes 8) lanes of dual carriageways and didn't consist of nothing but dead ends and dead space, businesses might be more interested in investing... but it's too late now to sort that mess out, so hello cheap buildings on cheap, economically unviable land - much of them by Cov Uni!
Won't even start on the horrendous mess they've made of IKEA and that general area.

The buliding the Uni pulled down, was full of asbestos, it was falling apart from the inside and nobody wanted to be there, I am glad to see the back of it, I dont think frank whittle would be too displeased having such an ugly building disappear.

See post #1444:
Not sure how much substance there is behind this, but it would fit the 'two bidders' scenario above.

For the sake of the many jobs depending on the re-opening of CVT let me state that there are two bidders, Omniport and a Swiss/American Group. While Omniport is bleeding money in Norwich and Maastricht (which never turned in a profit) the latter have the financial means to incur the start-up losses and to develop the infrastructure in line with the needs of current and future tenants. Their strategy is based on cooperation with BHX in the sense of an airport system, where each of the airport in the region (BHX, EMA, CVT) have their dedicated role. CVT's role will essentially BA/GA and ad-hoc/specialised freight. They are well connected globally and are able to bring, inter alia, substantial MRO operations to CVT.

lets hope things start to move a bit quicker now before
a) all the trained / skilled staff are re-employed else where
b) the 'other bidder' changes their mind / gets mucked about by CCC
c) other businesses go bust
At the end of the day if this offer falls through then this really could be the end of CVT and no one in their right mind would want to see that.

Does this mean that the final of the three bidders, who as of yesterday, were rumoured to be going to be making an announcement today, have now pulled out?
(They were referred to as far back as post #1399 although they were not the "owners of Gatwick")

Looks like everyone that has looked at the books and talked to the Council has walked away.
You can't blame the business's that are there wanting to keep it running. They will need to do it at very little cost, so the Council needs to accept that they are not going to make any money out of it for a while yet.
Aviation is going to be in the dumps for at least the next two years before any major recovery, Until that happens then little can be expected in the short term from CVT. Hard pill for the Council to swallow...
