Marshalls relocation from Cambridge wouldn't have surprised me.

Yes, I can see the business sense in having to sell Cambridge at a time when they'd have difficulty getting a realistic sum for it, then buying an airport with a significantly shorter runway which would need extending for the widebody maintenence work, which doesn't have the specialist hangerage available, which would require the relocation of many hundreds of specialist employees at huge expense and lose the many executive operators which currently use Cambridge.

Yes it makes perfect sense, what a good idea..

The "Significantly shorter runway" statement is not correct, CVT has (or had) 2008m x 46m with TORA's, TODA's and LDA's similar to CBG. Hence why it could be a useful MRO airport. Other than that, I agree that there would be no sense in Marshall relocating unless they were forced out of CBG, which is now far less likely than it was at the beginning of the noughties.

MRO would be a way forward. BHX only has hangars used by Flybe with no spares. The Ryan air hangar looks to be on hold at least in the short term. So there would be no real competition up the road.
Until CVT shut the only freight at BHX was the Fedex nightly freighter and belly freight. A few ad hocs would turn up very occasionally. The belly freight will remain for obvious reasons.
So may not be that big a deal for them. I suppose it would depend on the deal. BHX won't give anything away...

Is Cambridge Airport's short-term future totally assured?

I beleive marshall were looking at cvt earlier this year as a back up if they couldnt extend their contract but mainly to make cambridge council have a think about them leaving, they lost interest when they were given a short extension on their lease at cambridge.
they might come in and run atc and rffs for one of the interested parties to make their life easier though.

cvts runway isnt that short theyve had fully loaded military globemasters, hercs and were planning on having empty 747's come in for decomision and dismantling.

I hear one of the flying schools on the airfield has gone in Liquidation today. Sign of the domino effect. Many more instructors now looking for work.

What a shame, prehaps if all the rumours posted about a new owner are true then hopefully something will be made public very soon and may save other clubs etc.

The process takes several weeks and the 'administration procedure' has begun today. Winding up will be when the company is liquidated at the end of the due process. So, it won't say anything different at Co. House for the forseeable future.

From the horses arse!

Although I'm not talking from the horses mouth I'm not far off it!

I am sorry to say that rumours about the school which shares its name with a bunch of goose stepping communists is true.

There a a glimmer of hope that the phoenix will rise from the flames, but it's just a smoldering ember at the moment.

Sorry to be so vague but although this is a rumour network I don't think its healthy to speculate until we know the facts. Unfortunatley rumour control has been running awok already which isn't helping matters.

In the meantime if anybody knows of any suitable jobs going for a professional pilot such as stacking shelves cleaning toilets etc please let me know!

BOZR_DOUGIE I've sent you a PM, I'm sure you know who I am I certainly know who you are! If anybody else who knows and is effected or infected for that matter drop me a PM.

I'm trying to think possitive, I can stay up late chatting on PPRUNE because I don't have to get up for work tomorrow!

I used a naughty word!

Hi Guys,

I posted message earlier this evening to try a reasure some of you that all is not lost and we might be able to salvage something from this mess.

I tried to use some humor to soften the blow (for those that know me it isn't my strong point) and I stupidly used a word similar to bottom so my post has gone off to the mods for checking!

As I have a brain the size of a pea I can't remember everything I wrote so you'll have to wait until the mods take the naughty word out or deam it inoffensive!

BOZR_DOUGIE check your PMs.

Nav3,

Quite correct, which makes your made-up, sorry, "overheard" conversation about Coventry Airport being fully operational and open on the 18th January look very unlikely.

More Walter Mitty's in aviation than flakes of snow in the Scottish Highlands.

I will however let you provide the salt for my hat should I be required to eat it.

These things take time, but I think maybe you're confusing the seperate issues of the Coventry-based flying club that failed this week and the larger problems at Coventry Airport; Nav3's 'pub scenario' related to the latter, whereas the comments above refered to the former.

Everything we're hearing here at the airport (and elsewhere) suggests that some positive news is in the offing and an announcement about the future is due any time now.
