According to the Local press it could be going European!!
Coventry Telegraph - News - Coventry News - Troubled Coventry Airport could go European
At a guess, going by the description of one of the interested parties, I would say it was Omniport. They are in fact UK based...Major shareholders in Norwich. Full owners of Maastricht Aachen airport. One time minority shareholders in Prestwick....
Of course I could be way out with that guess.....Still nice to think it could be something positive for Coventry.

The regulator does not have the power to do that. They can make comments and voice concerns about the manner in which an ANSP is run and in extremis can remove the licence to operate but they cannot force a commercial decision on the airport.
Sorry Daniel but I don't put comments upon here that are rumour or supposition. I am not aware of the mechanism used to achieve the contracting out of ATC but I know what I say to be correct .

Full owners of Maastricht Aachen airport.
I had actually planned on taking a trip to Coventry in late November, but the strong winds plaguing the UK stopped that. I really hope that it gets rescued and turned into a very GA friendly airport as I had a good time on my last visit there. I found the fees charged to be most reasonable (August scheme)!
With any luck, the instrument approaches will be kept! My club was just about to ditch Cranfield and switch over to Coventry as the fees are more realistic there.
Hope there will be good news to come out of this.

Nice to see some GA traffic here yesterday. It's been a bit of a ghost town for us on the Air Ambulance. Couple seen today. Weather's gin clear
Hopefully we'll hear something in the next few days about what is going to happen to it. All I have seen are the Cov Telegraph articles.
It is a bit wierd flying in/out and hearing the calls on SafetyCom with no ATC replies!

Announcement to follow in next couple of days that a deal to sell the airport to a British consortium has now been agreed.
The Airport will become fully operational again on the 18th January, 2010 and will become a Cargo centre open 24/7 Monday through Friday with full ATC but weekend opening hours yet to be finalised after more discussion. GA will be encouraged, as will training.
Great news all round.

being rid of £25m in debt and the old mis-management will make things a lot better. It needs to be a stable local airport and not try anything silly again. How much of the £25 million went to the last managers and other firms owned by the old directors.

Without necessarily holding you to it (whoever you are and wherever you're based), would you care to comment?
Cheers,

I wish this was true - where has this rumour come from? It is great to hear stories like this but if it is just another rumour then it gives false hope to those hoping to get their jobs back!!
Lets try and keep to the facts

Happy Wanderer...and others...
On Friday evening I followed 2 'Suits in an executive car off the airport west entrance which came from down by the AFT area. They turned their car into the pub...so did I. They stood at the bar and ordered 2 meals from the '2 for a Tenner section' and said to the barman, " We can only afford that now we have bought the airport and this will be our local when we come up here so we hope the food is good".
I was stood at the side of them and they continued to explain briefly to him that hopefully the trade would get back to normal for him and the airport in the coming weks as they were anticipating opening for 'full cargo facilities on the 18th Jan". Barman casually asked what would it be used for and the replied "freight and General Aviation". He asked if airliners would come in again like Thomson and they said "never say never, but not anticipated'.
IMHO, there was no reason for them NOT to be who they were and no reason for them to say any more ...they certainly were not boasting about it. Other overheard snippets certainly made it plain to me they were who they appeared to be. They were CERTAINLY in the aviation business and certainly acted like 'big cheeses'. There were no other 'known aviator regulars' in there except for me at the time.
Nobody at the Council would confirm (OR deny) that today when I called and asked for it to be substantiated.

it was the atlantic 737 returning for maintenance.
if it has already been sold then the people dealing with it dont know about it, its also unlikely that it will be open for business on the 18th as it takes a minimum of three weeks to transfer the license.
as someone with a vested interest in it reopening i hope youre right but doubt it very much.

I admire your tenacity at rumour monger!
But that's all you've got! Hearsay or is that hearsay! either way it's pure speculation.
If you can't substantiate it then don't say it
but all power to your elbow for being a right nosey so'and'so
