How strange that such an intrepid aviator has not been seen flying the Spirit of Artemis around the UK over the last six months.

Perhaps, as I am several thousand miles away from UK airspace, I have missed the Stearman dropping in to dozens of UK airfields over the autumn and winter.

Surely it is a great vehicle for her outreach projects?

Will any forthcoming film show (if it ever appears) the "collaborative team effort" and the important role played by Ewald Gritsch?

I have stated publicly previously (11 June 2016) that I am deeply disappointed at the comments coming from a particular source making false assertions that my flight expeditions should have been executed as solo flights – and that I have claimed them as such. I have previously stated they were not “solo flights”. They are all about a collaborative team effort and celebrating the brilliant achievements of women like Amy Johnson and Lady Heath who made history when aviation was in its infancy.
Perhaps the "collaborative team" are too busy to go flying?

Those who have been following the saga of the TC-T entry on Wikipedia will be amused to see that Wiki has banned The Daily Mail as an 'unreliable' source.

Probably just accomodating 21st-century practices. It is very rare for female actors to be called "actresses" these days (it's a pointless piece of implied sexism), and the term "aviatrix" itself implies that a pilot who is female is somehow "special" or "unusual". In the post-jurassic era such condescending drivel is no longer acceptable.

What on earth is condescending about it? Is it any more condescending than referring to a male pilot as an aviator?

After is, it's TCT that goes on about how significant her gender is, nobody else regards it as remotely relevant.

Her Bird in a Biplane tag says it all.

A 1960's slang word for a woman that has no place in the 21st century.

She has made a big point of women being special in aviation because in some way they are discriminated.

That was her argument at the LAA AGM when they pulled the Bill Woodham Navigation Award.

However elsewhere she admitted she was "too busy flying the aircraft" to handle the navigation and logistics.

Quite so - either "The actions of Mr Rutherford are now the subject of legal proceedings" is factually true or it isn't - this statement has been on her web site since 24 OCTOBER 2016

Her lawyers letter implied that by revealing the truth here on PPRuNe I was involved in a joint excercise with Sam Rutherford which constituted harassment.

I think that she might have tried to file a complaint with the UK police regarding Sam but as I understand it he is based in Belgium so I fail to see how they could do anything.

Likewise I am in the Far East and have never met Sam nor would I recognise him.

Of course if that defence worked it could be applied to anyone such as the famous case of the MP who claimed expenses for his duck house.

If I am guilty of anything it is posting links to stories, pictures and events that prove none of Tracey Curtis Taylors so called long distance adventures have ever been solo.

PDR1 is absolutely correct in his assertion "that such drivel is no longer acceptable". Rather ironic that it's got to this stage for the penny to drop for Curtis-Taylor though.
But looking on the positive side , maybe she has taken something away from all this !

As far as the "peace in our time" content of her "statement" goes ? Well , considering the date it was released , which incidentally was prior to SWB's brilliant uncovering of "The Herne Bay Tapes", then I would fully recommend that in light of the fact that all of the six points that she brings up have been fairly comprehensively demolished , then she removes this work of fiction from public view.
And if her legal team have gone as low-profile as her sponsors then I would do it ASAP.

Absolutely spot on Chris.

Despite all the publicity she still has the statement on her website making unfounded allegations about yourself,Sam Rutherford and me.

This statement is made in response to commentary appearing in the media concerning the Light Aircraft Association (“LAA”) and the rescission of the Bill Woodhams Trophy which was made to me in 2014 in respect of the Cape Town to Cairo flight that year for a “feat of navigation, aviation, tenacity and endurance.”
Well she admits she assigned the planning and navigation to others so how could she accept the award unless it was a group effort?
I have stated publicly previously (11 June 2016) that I am deeply disappointed at the comments coming from a particular source making false assertions that my flight expeditions should have been executed as solo flights – and that I have claimed them as such. I have previously stated they were not “solo flights”. They are all about a collaborative team effort and celebrating the brilliant achievements of women like Amy Johnson and Lady Heath who made history when aviation was in its infancy
Given the above I cannot see how she could qualify for the LAA award which was to an individual and not a group.

Indeed her appearance at the LAA AGM was on a personal and not group basis.

She blamed it all on LAA ignorance and Barry Tempest and Chris Martyr.
The AGM of the LAA was held 21 October 2016 at Sywell Aerodrome in Northamptonshire. The first public reference to the agenda which included the motion “for the Review of the Woodhams’ Trophy to Tracey Curtis-Taylor” was on 4 October 2016 and was brought by two members - Barry Tempest and Chris Martyr. Prior to the AGM over 100 proxy votes had been cast in favour of the motion, along with proxy votes on the resolutions at the meeting, following the online media campaign referred to below.

b. At the AGM itself there was a broadly-based lack of knowledge among members present about this motion, the fact that I had made any previous public statements, or the fact that proxy votes had already been cast. It was suggested to the Chairman of the meeting (LAA Chairman, Brian Davies) that in the circumstances the motion should be held over to another meeting to allow a full discussion – but this was refused. At the meeting, members expressed their discomfort and that an injustice was being carried out. Of the members actually present at the meeting (about 70), the overwhelming majority voted against the motion or abstained, but the motion was nevertheless carried by the proxy votes previously cast.
She has never appeared in any pictures with her "team".

Instead she fronted up to the press suggesting she was a solo woman pilot.

However the "team" are often mentioned in her defence.

Mr Rutherford has engaged in an online media campaign to discredit me and the BIAB team members by making false assertions concerning the expeditions and the roles of team members. I have previously stated publicly that I consider this to be part of a course of conduct designed to cause damage and distress.
The reference to an "online media campaign" refers to this thread that has exposed the truth behind The Spirit of Artemis. Without PPRuNe the facts would never have emerged.

So who were the unsung team members?

Readers of this fascinating thread might like to see an exchange between Terry Holloway and myself started as a result of my reading a post in here-

Terry,

You will be amused, as I was, by this Facebook PM exchange. The man has a real personality defect and if Tracey has supporters like this she really should disown them. Fortunately I have both a sense of humour and a bloody thick skin.

Your comments appreciated.

Cheers,

Barry

“Allan Friswell I hope you bankrupt that small-minded spoilt brat that is Rutherford. I hope too that something VERY unpleasant happens to Barry Tempest, the LAA's Resident Misogynist, a man so afraid of women, let alone successful women he wets his pants when he meets one. Tracy - you're a star. xx “

Allan,
I have just come across this post from last year and was somewhat amused. I fear your assessment of me as a misogynist is far from accurate though at age 78 my enthusiasm for the female form is rather diminished. Nothing unpleasant has happened to me yet and I certainly hope the same does not happen to you. I do not think we have ever met so perhaps you should think again before making unpleasant assertions. Tracey lost the LAA award and, by a majority of 2 to 1 at the AGM where proxy votes were allowed in accordance with the LAA rules. I wish you well. Barry

"Who the f**k are you? Are you ill? Delirious? Even .................unbalanced?”

Fri 23:09
No but you might well be. For an ex-teacher your manners are appalling. You insulted me in a post you made in favour of TC-T in the autumn. I have just seen it.

04:57
“I’ve placed you, squire. You’re the pompous, arrogant, smug, self-satisfied, woman –fearing old **** from the LAA who wets himself (and not metaphorically) every time a woman like Tracy comes into your vision. I thought this of you months ago before forgetting you entirely and instantly; and the mere fact that you’ve nothing better to do than spend ages hunting me out in order to put your slimy snail-trail and your childish whining under my nose not only makes me laugh but also shows you’ve a very sad little life indeed. So Barry, (and who the f is called Barry these days?), why not fly off into the sunset? No, make that a hill.”

You're now blocked. ( the block was done by Fritwell who might well be 'frit' well by my comments. Frit is Norfolk speak for frightened...!!!)

Terry emailed me back to say he thought the guy was totally insane though obviously a TC-T supporter. He shared my amusement having known me for around 50 years.

The whole Bird in A Biplane story is a prime example of fake news.

Managing the news, acts intended to influence the presentation of information within the news media
Spin (propaganda), a form of propaganda, achieved through providing a biased interpretation
News propaganda, a type of propaganda covertly packaged as credible news, but without sufficient transparency concerning the source
Disinformation, intentionally false information intended to deceive the target audience. (source wiki)
Artemis PR was handled by Tim Kelley while Sydney based PR company D'Arcy Partnership were paid by Boeing

Our Work > Aviation > Getting sponsorship to take flight

Celebrating its centennial in 2016, The Boeing Company sponsored aviation adventurer Tracey Curtis-Taylor on an intrepid three month flight all the way from Great Britain to Australia in an open cockpit 1942 Boeing biplane.

While maximising sponsorship value can be challenging for businesses, we helped create an extraordinary media campaign for Boeing that promoted the epic flight and most importantly created national news across print, online and TV, highlighting Boeing’s involvement with the journey – from the reliability of the original aircraft to its centennial - with a reach of over 12 million people.

We worked closely with Tracey and her team to ensure her last stop in Sydney created buzz around the country and the world. When her biplane touched down, she was greeted by cheers from media from four major TV stations - Channel 7, Channel 10, Channel 9, and ABC as well as The Sun Herald, Sunday Telegraph, AAP, Reuters, the AFP and a correspondent from the BBC. Coverage exceeded expectations with video footage of the landing across Fairfax Media sites, as well as quality stories on The Guardian, The New Daily and aviation specialists like Crikey’s Plane Talking, Australian Aviation and Aero Australia.

In addition to TV, online and print, we also arranged radio interviews on 2GB Sydney, 2UE Sydney, 3AW Melbourne, 4BC Brisbane, ABC 774 Melbourne and ABC 702 Sydney, as well as set up speaking engagements for Tracey with key Boeing stakeholders including The Royal Aeronautical Society and Aviation Aerospace Australia.
source http://www.darcypr.com/case-studies/...o-take-flight/

The solo claim was made D'Arcey PR in a press release promoting Boeing that resulted in this story in Australian Aviation.
http://australianaviation.com.au/201...t-from-the-uk/

Tim Kelley, her PR manager ,can be seen smirking behind her as she received the solo certificate from the Australian Women Pilots Association as part of the PR campaign by D'Arcy PR.

A high proportion of her Facebook followers actually believed the spin hence the vitriol aimed at highly respected aviation professional Barry Tempest.

However TCT also appears to believe that she deserved the Light Aircraft Association navigation award.

The AGM of the LAA was held 21 October 2016 at Sywell Aerodrome in Northamptonshire. I fail to see any injustice considering she admits in the following paragraph it was not a solo expedition.

I have previously stated they were not “solo flights”. http://www.birdinabiplane.com/statem...24%20Oct%2016/
Which begs the question why did you accept that solo certificate Tracey?

She admits she could have done more to correct misleading reports that made liberal use of the phrase “flying solo”.

“I wish we’d sorted that misreporting out but I can’t do everything all of the time,” she said.

You have to question her scruples Clareprop.

D'Arcy Partnership were more than happy to mislead the media because that is what PR companies do. With a gold plated client such as Boeing I doubt their services were cheap.

So the Royal Aeronautical Society is a 'key' Boeing stakeholder?

D'Arcy are also linked to Singapore Airlines ,another of her other sponsors.

We have considerable depth of knowledge and expertise working in aviation and aerospace industries.

Today we work with two of the world’s greatest aviation businesses – The Boeing Company and Cathay Pacific Airways, and our past experience includes work with other airlines including Air Canada, Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines.

We can be sure that she is aware of the following three questions which have been posted here several times over the last half year or so because Terry Holloway was kind enough to confirm that he has passed that on to her. They are:

1. What is the reconciliation between Ms Curtis-Taylor's well documented claim to have flown her african flight "solo". Please see the video clip published earlier in this thread in which she PERSONALLY makes that claim, and her subsequent public statement that the flight was not solo?

2. Given the above, what was she doing in the picture of her, published several times earlier in this thread, standing in front of a huge picture depicting the route and claiming she had been "Alone in an open cock-pit [sic] plane"?

3. By what authority, and with what qualification, does she wear RAF wings? There are several pictures of her wearing them in this thread as well.

As the old saying goes: "What can not speak can not lie". Equally, in this case: "Who does not speak may have something to hide"

Ms. T C-T was asked via her own website contact facility about her unauthorised wearing of an RAF flying badge last October and because an answer wasn't forthcoming, she was asked again some weeks later. Both questions were acknowledged as received.

Obviously, she has far better things to do than answer awkward questions. She still hasn't answered, some four months later.

It was definitely a solo flight to Australia, TCT herself says so.

Can't believe anything that she comes up with, I see the route taken is in error, doesn't include Darwin or Hooker Creek, where she definitely did stop.

Hooker Creek was a deliberate diversion (perhaps to spice up the filming) to an Aborigine community about which she made the following claim.

Her challenges included scrounging for fuel with the help of Aborigines after an impromptu landing in the Australian outback, and spending a day scraping salt off her propellers after flying over the Timor Sea.
source Aviator completes epic flight in vintage biplane with Sydney Harbour flyover | Reuters

There is no need for "scrounging". The airfield has both Avgas and Jet1!

Ewald and Tracey both waving on departure in the video below.

As for the day scraping salt off the prop in Darwin I dread to think how the local operators cope :-)
