The thing about the Russias second fronts mentioned earlier, my thoughts are when Russia launched the initial attacks last year they had to build up a force of tanks, transport fuel trucks and APC’s at various points across the borders ready to strike, but kept bluffing saying there was no invasion Plans and it was simply exercises.

This time they will not be able to bluff and to open several fronts Russia will need to build forces up near the borders and that’s where they will be vulnerable to accurate fire., the west needs to provide long range HIMARS to destroy those assembly points before they have a chance to move off, or destroy the transport infrastructure to prevent that build up or drop bridges etc preventing its movement towards Ukraine.

The Russian “plan” if you can call it that is mass mobilization, give every new soldier the basic infantry kit out and then send them to the front lines where they will learn on the job or die. Russia absolutely has the capability to provide basic kit to 500,000 soldiers. The hash they made of the last mobilization was due to bureaucratic incompetence and corruption, not the lack of material or the industrial base to generate a soldier’s basic kit.

As the old saying goes quantity has a quality all of its own. Russia has clearly demonstrated that they do not value soldiers lives and will maintain field discipline with the constant threat of summary execution. I expect that the senior Ukrainian commanders are very concerned at the possibility of overwhelming mass assaults. Some estimates put the kill ratio at 5 to 1 in favour of Ukraine but that won’t work when Russia can put numbers of 10 to 1 at a point of their choosing.

Ben Wallace’s statement in the house as to what is being sent, apologies if some countries cannot play it. I just wish the Germans Defence Minister was as competent, fingers crossed for the new one.

From the Moscow Times........
A former commander for Russia’s Wagner private military group who claims to have witnessed several extrajudicial killings has fled to Norway and requested asylum, Russian activists and Norwegian media reported. Lawyer Jens Bernhard Herstad confirmed to Norway’s Verdens Gang daily Sunday that the man who crossed the border was Medvedev.

Gulagu.net claimed that Medvedev led the unit of Yevgeny Nuzhin, a convicted murderer recruited by Wagner who was recaptured by the group after he surrendered to Ukrainian forces. Gruesome video footage published in November showed Nuzhin being bludgeoned to death with a sledgehammer by a Wagner fighter.

If you haven't been watching, be aware that the Russo-Ukrainian war is seeing the Republic of Korea replace Cold War era US, German & French ground equipment in NATO, particularly in Eastern Europe.

Sending tanks and artillery guns to Ukraine to bolster the country's war effort will leave the British Army weaker, its chief has said.

Gen Sir Patrick Sanders said that Ukraine would put British donations to "good use" in the fight with Russia, in an internal message sent to troops and seen by the BBC.

But he warned that it would also leave the British Army "temporarily weaker".

The UK has committed to sending 14 Challenger 2 tanks to the frontline.

Around 30 AS90s - large, self-propelled guns - are also expected to be delivered.
Gen Sanders, head of the British Army, told troops that ensuring Russia's defeat in Ukraine "makes us safer".

But he said it was vital the Army's "warfighting capability" was restored at pace.

"There is no doubt that our choice will impact our ability to mobilise the army against the acute and enduring threat Russia presents and meet our Nato obligations," he added.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Monday, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace highlighted the need to reinvest in the military.

He told MPs his department was now considering whether the Army needed a larger tank fleet in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Mr Wallace added he would "also build on the Army's modernisation programme at pace, specifically on artillery".

Gen Sanders' memo to the troops is as much a message to the Treasury to deliver on the government's pledge to modernise the Army.

He makes clear the Army is making sacrifices to help Ukraine win the war.

And while he believes that it is worthwhile, it comes at a cost. So Gen Sanders wants to see the investment needed to rebuild it. In that goal he has the support of the defence secretary.

The Ministry of Defence has pledged to spend Ł24bn on re-equipping the Army over the next decade. But much of that new kit - including upgraded tanks and new armoured vehicles - will not be fully operational until the early 2030s.

Not enough to do anything constructive. We may have an army after this has finished. The Tories seem to have forgotten 6 Ps. No, they don't know the meaning of the phrase.

You have to remember the Challenger 3 is not a new tank but an upgraded 2, now originally they were planning to not upgrade them all, but they are now talking we may need more MBT’s for the defence of the Country and they have to come from somewhere. I would have liked to have seen double the number provided and who knows we may increase the number, but we are a small military these days and in comparison there are well over 1000 Leo’s floating about amongst countries.

This is what you get when the Cold War ended and the West reigned in their military spending and prostituted themselves to Russia for cheap energy.
The Soviet Union bankrupted itself trying to keep up with the arms race, using energy it has both financed its military and bought in technology that before the wall came down was basic at its best.
The worst thing is the west did sleep walk into it.

If you fear sending something because it may be to late, it will be to late. If they had instigated it a year ago deliveries would be close…. Nuff said.

Mobilised Russians from Novosibirsk say they have been sent to the front line without food, winter clothing or enough boots, have to buy their own provisions and have been told that if they want weapons they must take them from the Ukrainians.

Germany's new Defence Minister

Boris Pistorius - currently Minister for Internal Affairs in Lower Saxony since 2013. He has become known for his hard line in criminal matters, earning the nickname "Red Sherif": has called for the creation of a Euro-Border Police because he believes the free movement of the Schengen area enables crime and terrorism. No mention of military interest/involvement, except for his compulsory military service in 1980.

Nominating a man - especially one on the right of the party - has broken the gender parity in the Kabinett, so Scholz has opened himself up to criticism from the more didactic groupings on the Left..

When they capture these spy's giving out locations of critical power infrastructure, I wonder if the Ukrainians use the seized phone to send through locations of their own, I.E transformer location the middle of an empty field etc.
