Is Ukraine about to have a war?
Oh come on guys! It needs to be filmed to show the graphic horrors of war. There were others there to help the injured. The real issue is that they most likely had no medical kits available to help with. You see one guy put a blanket over his injured comrade. It's probably all he could do. I doubt if they have been trained in basic first aid either.
On the topic of videos posted around the web, plus a lot of the social media comments (particularly Twitter) I think we all need to treat a lot of them, probably the majority of them, as being faked, tampered with, or otherwise misrepresentative. We all (mostly) want to see Ukraine doing well, and highlight anything negative about Russia, and that is influencing the way social media is reacting, I'm sure. There are people that use some social media outlets, like Twitter, that feel more important if their content is viewed more than that of others. That has to create a strong bias to post stuff to get more views, and some of that stuff may not be as it seems.
Obviously there are a few reliable sources around, but one notable feature from early on has been that Ukraine is very adept at managing the information flow from their country and garnering a lot of support from many countries for the way they are being unmercifully attacked by Russia. I give them great credit for that, the contrast with the almost amateurish way that Russia is trying to deceive is stark. However, the winning side in any war wins partly because their propaganda is better than that of their opponent.
One noticeable feature in many recent snippets on Twitter is that the images are either doctored or are not what they are assumed to portray. It's been winter along much of the active front over the past month, yet we are still seeing videos where there are deciduous trees in leaf, for example. Finding accurate sources of gossip from the front lines is not easy, especially as Ukraine seems to have done a pretty good job over the past few months of stopping a lot of the unofficial videos that were being released (remember all the tractors towing armoured vehicle videos, early on, for example).
No idea how we validate anything that appears on Twitter, to be honest, or in the mainstream media. I think we need to assume that we only have a very vague idea of what might really be going on right now, and that's probably a very good thing for Ukraine.

Cheers, fdr. I probably wasn't clear in what I was referring to, but I meant after he'd come to a stop. Seemed to continue running them. I initially thought I may have misjudged the video, but the drag chutes are clearly full of air. (wind perhaps?)
Tumanski R-11 and R-13 appear to have the majority of engine accessories at the 6 o'clock position, and that would probably include the FCU. Possible that engine controls would be damaged during a belly landing.

That picture of the bloodied Ukrainian Mig 29 pilot was actually a selfie he took after bailing out and was hanging under his chute!

Fascinating recount of the air defence of Kyiv in the early days.

Ecce Homo! Loquitur...
Looks like something major is underway……
The whole day I'm looking at the developments at Chervonopopivka, near Kreminna. And the more I read, the more I have to grin. Give it a few more hours...
I have had some indications that things have been going on there but under tight OPSEC. The most recent indication was word about a week ago of special operators moving out in that direction carrying a heavier than normal combat load and with great anticipation…..

They keep racking up the numbers, 100,000 less Christmas presents will be needed at this rate.
Pyrotechnicians have inspected a total of 76,432 hectares of land for unexploded ordinance - an area larger than the entire middle eastern country of Bahrain.
Ukraine has defused over 300,000 explosives. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale military invasion, at least 302,802 explosives and 2,891 kilogram of explosives, including 2,155 aircraft-delivered bombs, have been neutralized, Ukraine's State Emergency Service reports.

Many observers have noted the difficulties that the Russians face in coping with winter in Ukraine, including deficiencies in clothing, discipline and leadership. But there's another critical factor worth highlighting: supplies of food and water. ⬇️

Orac, can I just say thank you for those Threadreader links. As a non-Twitter user they make reading the content massively easier and save me having to open Threadreader and manually copy Twitter links from here to read them (if you are not a registered Twitter member Twitter stops you reading threads after a few seconds, or at least it does for me)

Bakhmut is one I cannot get my head around, Ukraine has been using Nato style tactics effectively up until now and although they are depleting Russia's troops in the area of Bakhmut it comes with a cost, It almost feels like Ukraine is fighting to hold the city on Russia's terms and tactics, they have learnt to keep their supplies back out of range of Himars and are using artillery firepower to try and inflict the most damage on the Ukrainians, it is almost a Russian WW1 mentality for a city they said early on that had no strategic relevance. It also appears to be buying Russia time.

Serbia is apparently providing equipment and weapons to Russia, the toy helmet being shown on the web is actually a Serbian Kevlar Helmet with the sticker added to get around export restrictions. whether true or not is one of those things, its plausible, also check out the Serbian soldier wearing a Z.
