Is Ukraine about to have a war?
The ones able to give a definitive answer to the question why they are using the term kamikaze are the developers who are using the term, but I would suggest that the drone is only going to make a one way trip as opposed to the drones dropping grenades on grunts in their trenches and then flown home for reload.

Thus an unexpected and unlikely weapon appearing on the scene and tipping the balance of war against an overwhelming invader.

In the video of the Ka-52 shootdown that NutLoose posted what do people think actually struck it? It looks like a top down attack and reminds me of footage of BONUS artillery rounds.

I wondered that too as it was a big explosion.

The Russian airbase “Engels-2” has been hit. The base is located 400 km Southeast from Moscow. It hosts strategic bombers of Tu-95 and was the launch pad for numerous attacks against Ukraine.
Russian channels claim it was a drone.
This would change the strategic calculus considerably.
Interesting video of explosion at Engels Airbase. At 15 sec, sound of something passing overhead. At 42 sec, light from explosion. 19 secs later - sound of blast, about 6.2 km away (speed of sound 326.34 m/s, dry air -8 C.)
Video geolocated to here (done myself, others independently established same location). 6.2 km away, in line of sight, is north-eastern part of Engels airbase flight line, where, in this imagery, some Tu-95 bombers are parked.

The only base for the TU 160 strategic bomber? Surely not. Oops...

Simultaneous attack at Dyagilevo, Ryazan. Russians reporting it was just a fuel tanker exploding - but they would, wouldn’t they they…..
Also reports of 2 x TU-95 damaged, so maybe confusion between the two attacks. Hopefully clear skies for BDR or we might never really know,

Fuel tankers simply can't explode unless someone adds explosives to the scene.
They can burn, but the event shown was clearly an explosion, not a fuel fire as it did not persist longer than a secnd or so.

Murmansk is a FOB, they deploy there before doing sorties to the USA, North Atlantic, UK etc.
I would expect they would disperse their remaining aircraft to FOBs, bu5 at a heavy cost in operational capability due to th3 logistics of transferring crews and weapons, briefings etc.
Not surprised bot( TU-95 bases were hit at the same time, if you ar3 going to reveal you4 hand before showing you could attack at that range, best you hit both so they don’t have a chance to disperse the assets at the other.
Hitting the TU-95s and not the TU-160s looks like a political decision to leave their prime Nuke triad fleet alone.

Close up and slow mo of the KA-52 downing from a different view, interestingly there is another helicopter at low level, so I wonder why he was so high, you can see the missile strike too and the thoughts on what it was.

Engles is the equivalent of Whitman, its their TU-160's homebase, they might do deployments to other bases for periods of time but they always come back
