They run away from a war then do this sh*t, I would deport them straight back to Russia, ban or no ban on deportations to that country.

Looks like a bog-standard barometric altimeter to me, so doesn't it just depend what it's set to?

Admittedly, does look it could easily be 100'

Probably a metric altimer showing 100m.

The head of Motor Sich has been arrested for treason, he has been supplying engines and parts via third party countries to Russia from Ukraine that are used in the attack helicopters.

Published phone calls prove treason of the arrested Motor Sich president who supplied engines to Russia

2022/10/24 - 10:33

The phone calls published by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) show how Viacheslav Bohuslayev, president of the Ukrainian company Motor Sich that is producing helicopter engines, is discussing with Russian officials how he can supply engines to Russia. In particular, he spoke several times with the former director of Russian Rosvertol company producing helicopters in Rostov, Motrenko Piotr Danilovich. During the calls he was saying he could supply several engines saying also that “I have already supplied several dozens elsevere to Russia and everything went smoothly.” He also said he is loyal to Russian forces and supports their war of aggression against Ukraine.

Prior to 2014, Motor Sich was cooperating with Russians closely while after 2014 at least part of the cooperation remained which often made Bohuslayev and Motor Sich the center of political scandals and investigations.

Bohuslayev was arrested on 23 October by Ukraine’s Security Service and charged with state treason:

Motor Sich president charged with treason after Ukrainian engines found in Russian helicopters

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) confirmed that the honorary president of the Motor Sich aerospace giant Viacheslav Bohuslaiev and the Head of its Department of Foreign Economic Activity have been detained on suspicion of treason. In a press release, the agency said that they are suspected of collaboration and aiding the aggressor state, namely — of illegally supplying military goods for Russian attack aircraft.

According to the investigation, these officials acted in collusion with representatives of the Russian corporation Rostec, which is one of the main producers of weapons for the Russian armed forces.

The offenders established transnational channels of illegal supply of wholesale consignments of Ukrainian aircraft engines to the aggressor country.

The products were used by the occupiers for the production and repair of Russian attack helicopters such as:
  • Mi-8AMTSh-VN “Sapsan”;
  • KA-52 “Alligator”;
  • Mi-28N “Night Hunter”.
The SBU established that the relevant models of army aviation were massively used by the invaders in Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine: these combat helicopters were downed by the Ukrainian Army en masse.

To circumvent the established restrictions on trade with Russia, the organizers of the scheme used controlled commercial structures in three countries of the Middle East, Europe, and East Asia. These companies sent “orders” to the Ukrainian manufacturer allegedly for the needs of a foreign party

In other news, I hope the RoE are permissive enough for this going forward. (The whole story is here, but there is that annoying pay wall problem with NYT).

We Heard It, We Saw It, Then We Opened Fire

With an intense, hastily assembled effort, the Ukrainian military is pioneering successful techniques in the difficult art of anti-drone warfare... In Kyiv, three policemen shot down one drone with their Kalashnikov rifles after hearing the buzz, described by witnesses as sounding like a chain-saw engine, and then seeing the triangular weapon fly toward them over rooftops. “There was very little time to make a decision,” said Sgt. Oleksandr Kravchuk, who is a shooting instructor with the police department. He said he fired all 30 rounds in his magazine, trying to aim in front of the craft to account for its speed in flight. The drone veered off course and crashed, blowing up about 75 yards from where he was standing, Sergeant Kravchuk said in an interview. “We heard it, we saw it, then we opened fire,” he said.

By the devious expedient of changing the product SKU, the incidence of accidental fires, like the smoke, went through the roof.
The outcome was optimized by the curious coincidence that the lowest percentile of global IQ existed in a single country, the result of education funds all going to the bosses.
