From the New York Times just now:
Both Western and Russian analysts said that Mr. Putin would need a draft to sharply expand the size of his invading force. But he appears determined to resist such a measure, which could shatter the passivity with which much of the Russian public has treated the war. In August, 48 percent of Russians told the independent pollster Levada that they were paying little or no attention to the events in Ukraine.

As a result, analysts say, Mr. Putin faces no good options. Escalating a war whose domestic support may turn out to be superficial could stir domestic unrest, while continuing retreats on the battlefield could spur a backlash from hawks who have bought into the Kremlin narrative that Russia is fighting “Nazis” for its very survival.

Ever since Russia retreated in April from its attempt to capture Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, the Kremlin’s goals in the war have been unclear, disorienting Mr. Putin’s supporters, said Rob Lee, a military analyst at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.

“The Ukrainians’ war effort is obvious, it’s understandable, whereas on the Russian side, it was always a question of: What is Russia doing?” Mr. Lee said in a phone interview. “The goals aren’t clear, and how they achieve those goals isn’t clear. If you’re fighting a war and you’re not sure what the ultimate goal is, you’re going to be quite frustrated about that.”
Fire-walled but free articles available. Worth a read:

Ukrainians in Kharkiv front are using a plus sign to IFF themselves from the Russian with Z, V and O markings.
On the first clip it's quite obvious, on the latter video it can be seen on the bonnet (just)

More on the use of HARM Missiles

In the case of the MiG-29 the HARM is apparently being detected as an R-27EP anti-radiation missile by the weapon control system of the jet, and since the Su-27 can also can use R-27EP missiles it shouldn't require much more effort to integrat

Blimey, all I can assume is they either had no fuel left or the crews were in the building that was struck.

Believe the road out of Izyum was virtually impossible to get vehicles down, only way out was on foot, there was ukrainian heavy guns only 20km from the road and while UA couldn't get to the road they could get close enough to prevent heavy vehicles.

I think there should be a healthy dose of caution attached when Russia "confirms" anything...

Hope they keep something back, and don't overstretch. What a spectacular effort - worthy of nationhood.

Girkin comments on the rumoured concentration of forces at the Vuhledar direction (says Uglegorks but I think it's a typo?), says it makes sense and can lead to similar results as in Kharkiv Oblast.

When I see the destruction of myriad ammunition depots I am reminded of the classic line from the “Final Battle” scenes of the movie “Water-world” .
Scene: Tanker exploding in flames
Little girl to the frantic pirate leader : “Is this part of your Big Plan?”
One wonders if some sycophant has thought of posing that question to Putrid when reviewing “progress” at the front. ( while, of course, keeping well away from any high windows.)
The atmosphere at The Headquarters must be a bit strained these daze, not unlike the last days in the Fuhrerbunker.
