Is Ukraine about to have a war?
The very opposite in fact !

An air burst.where the fireball does not touch the ground produces comparatively little fallout as the only irradiated material is the bomb casing and the fission products of the bomb itself.
If detritus is drawn up from the ground then that would be a ground burst.
Nukes: Surface Blast vs Air Blast
Effects Unique to Air Blasts
Effects Unique to Air Blasts
Unlike surface blasts, air blasts produce almost no local fallout upon detonation. Instead, air blasts are more effective in producing high levels of overpressure over larger areas and increased yields of thermal radiation. In the case of the bombing of Hiroshima, about 192,000 total people died. [2] (See Fig. 1.) The toppled buildings and vast desolate landscape pictured shows the undeniable force of overpressure and thermal energy that buildings and people close to ground zero are subject to. Upon the aerial detonation of the 15 kiloton bomb in Hiroshima, a large cloud formed over the bomb site as seen in Fig. 2. This white colored mushroom cloud is characteristic of an air blast due to the condensation of water droplets in the atmosphere. [3]
That does not chime with the reported deaths from the effects of radiation suffered by those in the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Air Bursts Ninthace.
Bomb casing and remanents of nuclear material could hardly account for the given numbers !

My knowledge is limited but I always thought the airburst resulted in a vacuum which drew up quantities of ground based detritus thus creating the mushhroom cloud. All this crap is irradiated then blows all over the place as fallout.Hope I'm wrong.Hope I'm not proven correct.

After many days of not hearing from my friend in Kherson I finally managed a long chat.
She has no reason to lie about any of this and she is in no way naive to believe only propaganda.
Anyway it seems the rus authorities there are making all preparations for a referendum to declare Kherson oblast an independent republic as Donetsk and Luhansk. Or as she expressed it
"recent days they try to (invaders i mean) to organise ****ty referedum to turn my city into f.... ghetto KNR ( alike dnr\lnr) "
and also
"today have seen that rus commanders ordered soldiers to switch to self-sufficiency - i think u guess wht it mean"

Ukrainian infantry attacking a very large armoured column . Russian troops dismount their armoured vehicles and run away.
Is this how tanks fight infantry, jump out and hide??

Just saw this.

Both bombs exploded 1 500' - 2 000' AGL - this counts as a groundblast per Ninthace's link. and would blast/suck up huge amounts of dirt/anything from the ground which immediately becomes irradiated "fall-out" Air-burst means below 100 000' down to a level at which the blast does not hit the ground.

The column apparently thought they were on a safe route (short distances, main road, no infantry support). Once ambush trips, infantry jumps out to take positions and to not get killed by a LAW inside the ride.
On the other hand they could just be badly trained and briefed hence got themselves into the situation in the first place and the infantry just melt away.

No the only way I know of making something radioactive, short of playing around with particle accelerator, is to bombard it with neutrons and as I say, these came and went in a flash. What happens is neutrons can combine with the nucleus of an atom to create a radioactive isotope. The neutrons are scattered by air and are not that good at combining with the nucleus of other atoms to produce radioactive isotopes. A true air burst should not suck anything up but if it does dust should have been far enough away from the burst of neutrons, not to be irradiated (or neutron activated to be pedantic).
Hope this helps. Ground bursts on the other hand ...
these scenes are insane
Nato has no balls, just sit and watch these horrible civilian casualties, that Russian probably a young soldier in the tank is feeling smug about killing a couple of octogenarians
and we sit and are unable to do anything due to the nuclear menace......
absolutely no justification for lack of intervention. Which country is next in the list?

We failed to back Czechoslovakia But did stand up for Poland. what if we had stood up to Hitler when he marched in to the Rhineland or Austria. Yet again the west has woken up to late to a dictator who has ambitions to create a empire. We knew it would be difficult in 1939 yet we still stood up.
Oh,and whilst we "stood up " for Poland in 1939, it was more than 50 years before Poland was free again.

The occupiers chained their grenade launcher to prevent him from escaping. He froze to death. Everything you need to know about the Russian army. #StopRussian#StopPutin#Ukraine#UkraineRussianWar#StopPutinNOW#StopRussianAgression#CloseTheSkyUkraine

Tomi T Ahonen Stands With Ukraine
Forbes has calculated cost of Russian military hardware that Ukraine has already destroyed (2,593 items including jets, tanks, helicopters etc). Five Billion Dollars worth. That Putin has gambled and lost. Ukraine is wiping out $319 million dollars of Russian gear every day
Ukrainian forces destroyed Russian equipment worth $5.1 billion. According to the Armed Forces, Ukrainian troops have destroyed 2,593 units of Russian military equipment

I'm sure your perceptive list of NATO activities is very curtailed, Additionally, the defence of Poland, post-WWII, did take 50 years to resolve. I think the restrained nature of overt activities is working well. I can understand the frustration of some in that the West is not taking direct action, and that the Ukrainians are taking the brunt pf the fighting. But the attempts to contain the action to Ukraine are the right ones, while we support the Ukrainians in every which way we can. The long-term, non-direct approach seems to be working at the moment; lets hope it stays that way and escalation is not needed.
