Just then the men realised it was not the German trenches, but the Sea Wall....
( Based on many years ago my then dog chasing the gulls off the low wall realised too late it was a sea wall with a drop of some 20' into a fortunately tide in, harbour. Once she came up for air doggy paddled to the steps and climbed out. never did that again...)
