You can't compare the salary of a doctor (say) with that of a cabin crew worker - after all, why should anybody think that there would be a comparison between these two vastly different "professions" anyway? The difference in salary is probably around £60K-£70K.
So we can safely agree that if a doctor were to leave his/her profession to become, in effect, a host/hostess then there must be other benefits. Let's start off with:
1. A stress-free job (in comparison to a comparable job of waistressing in a restaurant say).
2. The chance to see the world.
3. A nice uniform and pretty shoes.

WWW,
So asking you to work 'one down' (just like LGW CC) is bullying and harasment?
Giving people VR when they wanted it instead of refusing it is bullying and harassment?
Allowing people to work part time is bullying and harassment?
Get real
mra4eng - I wasn't comparing the wages - I was stating that BA CC are very well compensated financially (especially in comparison to CC from any other airline)... which is what allows professionals from arguably more demanding jobs make the switch to become BA CC.
If it was a huge pay cut, they wouldn't even contemplate it, never mind do it.

Bassa members are constantly campaigning for UNITE to spend money on full page ads in the national press to promote their plight. I don't think UNITE could spend enough money to overcome this PR gaff from BASSA themselves......................talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
What self respecting educated hard working member of the public, let alone any veteran, of any conflict is going to have any sympathy with British Airways Cabin Crew now? It's just one PR disaster after another emanating from the top ranks of BASSA reps.
No wonder all but 2 people within UNITE are putting as much distance they can between themselves, BASSA and McClueless............... more about that later
WWW can you clarify what you mean by WW and AH? If it is what I am thinking, then you are sorely misguided, yet another shot in the foot for BASSA.

So whats the consensus? The fact that strike dates weren't announced surely means the union loses momentum heh?
From my questioning at work a few weeks ago, I'd concluded a strike was very probable , now I can't see it happening.

Apology to Ruthanne if you can't understand my mindset but not in any way were my comments directed at you or your Grandfather.
The mindset of such people is small, easily titillated and very frivolous. The sort of people who instead of trying to grasp facts and reality, get swayed by poorly made slogans that have nothing to do with the issue.

Sabbatical
I venture to suggest that the majority of doctors, lawyers etc who joined BA as CC were just taking a Sabbatical after their years of study, before joining the ranks of their chosen professions. Two or so years of a mentally lightweight job as junior staff, a few good layovers and some exotic holidays, plus a good salary.
Why ever not?

The wheels are starting to come off the wagon! More and more crew are starting to express doubts about the outcome. Acceptance of New Fleet, Single Supervisory Grade and, dare I say it, total defeat is starting to rear it's head in the most militant of places. Suddenly the scales have been lifted from the eyes of crew, they are noting that there was no negotiation at ACAS, that if the union aren't striking there must be something wrong, and that Walsh is setting them up for, and I quote, "a huge fall". Only the most ostrich-like continue to run around spouting the BASSA line, desperately trying to shore up the collapsing support with mealy-mouthed platitudes that we must trust the reps, and they must be given just a little more time to hammer home the deal that nails Walsh. Evidently 14 months isn't long enough for BASSA to negotiate.

Has freedom of speech gone or can i not say what i want as nothing of bad taste was said in my last post.WW and AH are/were men hated by many that is a fact. As for her Grandfather we go to war to stop evil like AH so we can live in a free country fact.

I have edited it to reflect my view.

That is democracy - that it has been established that equating this labour disagreement with fights for political freedom is insulting and inappropriate, and the path by which we reached that conclusion as a community on this forum is transparent and open for all to see as well.
Complaining that forum is undemocratic simply as someone disagrees with you is tantamount to a gross misunderstanding of the concept of freedom of speech. Shouting louder than the next person, failing to address valid criticism and evading accountability as Unite has done is the opposite of democracy.
It worries me greatly that an organisation whose major aim other than representation is the funding of the Labour Party at the core of our democratic processes, has so little tolerance for valid criticism and debate. Contrary to what many of the large union figures throughout English union history have thundered, the importance of being "on message" is of far lesser importance than establishing a consensus among the multitude of internal views that comprise the membership of an organisation.
The whole reason that unionism is dying as a concept is the failure of the participants to address the real concerns of the workforce and work across a broader range of industries, rather than fighting to the death in marginal industrial businesses with little future in the UK due to the cost base at which they operate. Not to mention that there is no longer an real exploitation of the type that Victorian England saw during the rise of the Labour movement.
I am not going to attack you at a personal level (f40 has educated us all); I would however encourage your posts now to be locked for editing, as it would establish the manner in which outdated union politics attempts to create a sense of solidarity through unwarranted calls to a greater good, which have little or no relevance to the issue at hand.
The issue at hand is that the reps failed to negotiate a not unreasonable set of requests from management to arrive at a mutually acceptable outcome!
As the age-old saying goes, if you can't stand the heat...

Re-heat, thank you.
Your penultimate sentence is succint. However; what is mind-boggling, and to an extent, deeply worrying, is the sheer numbers that still are so fervently following the UNITE/BASSA rhetoric. The Channel 4 news clip aired, I believe last thursday, post Kempton, had McCluckle crowing about his mandate to continue negotiation. Of course, the previous meeting before Christmas delivered a mandate for non-negotiation - simple hypocrisy of the black and white nature - which reads across to phenomenal mind-control by the BASSA/Unite Reps - breathtaking.
The BA team must be having a field day.

Damn right LU, I'm off tut pub.

I have read these BA crew threads for about six months now, and this is the first time I have posted.
That YouTube video is simply the final straw. How can BASSA compare their plight to the what happened in WW II?
Any lasting sympathy I had for the Union has finally evaporated.
No paycut. No forced redundancies.

WWW. Have copied your first post ( not impressed with your edited version either).
I will print and post on the ramp notice boards tomorrow. CC have very few friends in the ramp community at present and your comments I think will wipe out much of any remaining support ( mainly from the older generation of TU hard nuts )
You are doing a really good job in promoting the CC image on the ramp. Keep it up sunshine!!
Lets have some more.
I can see another 200 volunteers from the ramp for CC if you continue posting this kind of tripe. Keep this up and there will be no one left to fill baggage containers and load aircraft.

I can't believe I work with people who would think that our union can have any credibility left after publishing what they have done. I find it all so disappointing. Words fail me now.
I think that some people need to seriously think about resetting their moral compass.

First ever post on 'prune (and possible my last )
Acrostically speaking, I think waterside wonker's posting is totally witless asinine twaddle. There is no comparison between the material in the BASSA video and their current dispute.

At the beginning of this situation I was much more aligned into your way of thinking and was considering how BA would reorganize after being dissolved due to strike action. Now...not so much.
BASSA has handed BA so many gifts, over and over again. Its like a never-ending hanukkah.
And I'm stunned, laughing, but stunned, that there are BASSA postings under that name "Freddy" that I will constantly associate with "perv". What are they thinking???
At the moment, I'm more intruiged with how BA is dealing with this at the table. BASSA has blinked...they don't want to strike. BA still needs to do everything reasonable to gain solvency.
But as of this moment, I'm not thinking of BA's demise so much, and I truly do wish to send a bottle of nice port and a few cigars to the Unite individuals who are trying to get a deal IN SPITE of BASSA's leadership.
What a world.
i would be sorry to see ba go because of this unions inflated idea of their "struggle"
