British Airways - CC Industrial Relations Mk VI
Controversial, moi?
A blank piece of paper should be agreed by both sides and a reasonable time limit set. All existing terms and conditions should be parked and new ideas brought to the table. A simplistic idea, but if it was me, that is what I would push for now.
At the deadline last June on the table from BA to meet the required savings was:
- New manning levels
- New disruption agreement
- Some reduced nightstops
- NO NEW FLEET
Note that no pay cuts and no new fleet was on the table. WW was happy that the savings would be met and he was not broadly bothered how and where the savings came from.
Compare to the last offer immediately prior to the strike. Is anybody taking money on what the eventual settlement will be, better or worse than what has previously been offered by BA?
Clearly the strike IS having an effect but from my observations it has been far from a raging success for Unite and if it turns into a war of attrition Unite are not starting from a position of great strength, the lack of truth in many of their allegations seems to confirm that.

pro strike opinions
Good evening all,
Having observed some of the news coverage I'm genuinely interested to know the opinion of pro strike/pro bassa crew about the comments and statements made by unite today.
For some reason this thread seems to of become one sided with very few pro bassa posts. That's a shame as both sides of an argument should at least be aired. Some of the comments by unite today seem to be staggeringly inaccurate at the least or at worst absolute untruths.
As an example a text message sent to members stating that only 26 members reported for work today. Or another example would be the reported movement of 20 aircraft to be parked at Cardiff and another 20 to Shannon.
I'm genuinely interested and intrigued as how these statements are viewed by the pro bassa section of the community. Are they believed?

M.Mouse, I agree. Imagine if we had agreed to last summers proposal, we would be working harder, for same money as now (existing crew) new crew would be on new rates of pay but alongside us and we would be saving money! And none of this mess now! But no! unite thought by saving no and stamping their feet all the time they would get a better deal. Now new fleet is back etc. It did make me lugh the other day when Tony Woodley said that the offer the other day was worse than the previous weeks:
can't unite see a correlation, the longer they stamp their feet (and get crew to strike aswell) the worse the proposals will be! Duh! It is costing the company more money!

Tightslot: with all due deference to your moderation, many of us are in a position to verify 'claims' as we have access to BA's FICO system, where all flight statuses are available for relevant employees to see. We are not at liberty to cut and paste that to the world at large though....
I flew an empty 747 to the USA yesterday. On arriving at the favourite watering hole, I said hello to some crew I recognised and was promptly called a s*** by a belligerent fellow who was presumably miffed at not being able to take part in the strike! The point that pilots are not strikers seemed to be missed...
The downroute crew were interested to hear reports of the atmosphere in the CRC...
Interestingly, we were within one or two of having enough crew to re-instate our outbound flight, but in the event we departed LHR with a lot of freight, but no pax. The crew we did have initially were disappointed not to come with us.

Patience Quality,
The Airline is fighting a fire, it's the weekend too, and I expect all admin staff will be drafted in to rebook pax before they get around to disciplining strikers. WW has the bit between his teeth though and I doubt BASSA/Unite will sweet talk that 'concession' back into the negotiations.
Rest assured though, after this debacle there'll be plenty of seats available for staff for a long time to come. Load factors before the strike were awful on many routes and they ain't gonna pick up overnight after this.

IMPORTANT
If you are reporting for duty at Cranebank tomorrow, please see your ESS email about pickets near there, and an alternative route.
Do NOT let it deter you. The pickets are peaceful, members of PCCC have driven past or near them in full uniform over the last couple of days - no problem.
You know it makes sense - report for work!
I am BA cabin crew and this is my own view and not that of BA.

...and anyone can purport to be someone or something they aren't through a Prune nickname. By the way, if you're interested in what real BA shareholders think of WW's handling of this matter, you don't need to look far beyond the recent stock price increase.

This forum, AND this thread, are OPEN to BASSA/Unite supporters as much as those who hold views not in support of those organizations. Earlier on this thread, and the one before this one, there were a few BASSA/Unite supporters posting. Those posters have simply NOT posted in some time (A.Lurker, Watersidewanker, et al). I have no idea why they no longer are active on this thread that is OPEN TO ALL for posting. Please do not believe that because you do not "see/read" pro-BASSA/Unite posts that this thread/BBS does not allow them access and rights as any poster has. It is THEIR CHOICE to post here or no. ps- Welcome to Pprune. Post away within the ROE!!

Cotswoldchap, for your info, I reported for work early this morning and there were a lot more than 26 crew there when I arrived and obviously more would have reported throughout the day. I don't know where BASSA got their 26 figure from? It's completely untrue. I also noted that many of them were faces I knew - not all temps or volunteers.
In response to the Unite statement:
They claim only 9 Heathrow departures today. In fact nearly 40 British Airways operated long haul flights departed today with passengers - the loads were good on the vast majority that were not re-instated flights (eg EBB) - I can't be bothered to count the short haul flights as there were 6 operated by BA with passengers in the first 2 hours alone. Approx 30 long haul flights departed empty across the whole day.
The blown slide rumour has already been covered a page or so ago.
The 40 aircraft at CWL/SNN have now magically re-appeared at LHR (85 parked aircraft is now 140).
Delays have been minimal across the day.
Regarding staff travel being removed, I brought 2 crew members back from an outstation today. Both had been sick down-route on day one of the strike and had been informed by their manager that their ST has been withdrawn.
