Well, the terrain certainly doesn't look like UK.

Mediterranean possibly.

Were the B17s led by an "assembly ship" ?

JENKINS 27th Nov 2018 10:14

Not Med., and I doubt that this theatre had the coloured ships for use in the formation process. Follow The Goat rather than that which moves sideways, for by so doing the scope of the search will be very much reduced.

The name of the field should be familiar to spotters worldwide, from Stockport to Santiago. However, it's presence in the air, very meaningful, is decreasing as the numbers increase.

Longreach (Torrens Creek), Queensland. 19th Bombardment Group spent a bit of time here in 1942.

….from Stockport to Santiago
Is that a hint that it begins with an S ?

dook 27th Nov 2018 12:03

.....is decreasing as the numbers increase.
In terms of lat/long ?

nvubu 27th Nov 2018 12:28

I reckon CGB has it.

dook 27th Nov 2018 12:37

Agreed - but with Longreach not Torrens Creek.

JENKINS 27th Nov 2018 12:40

Longreach it is, on the Tropic of Capricorn. As QANTAS phase out the lovely 747, the word LONGREACH on the fuselage will no more he seen by spotters as the 787 takes over........if it does of course.

Over to the 'herd,' and as an aside an American student used such a comment when being introduced to the UK Low Flying System. Can we forgive the Torrens Creek aberration? I gather it is a long walk. CGB probably deserves the turn, albeit owing us a solution from long ago.

Thank you. The nautical theme extends a good while before Naval Aviation.

Is that a cargo shed ?

Cows getting bigger 27th Nov 2018 15:58

Maintenance. Clearly this isn’t the UK, USA or DHL’s main base. :)

A discovering Henry would have been proud.

dook 27th Nov 2018 16:02

Good grief - we have another Jenkins here. :uhoh:

Sam Asama 27th Nov 2018 16:13

Keflavik...?

broadreach 27th Nov 2018 16:25

Shot from the hip: Porto?

Err, I really meant Lisbon, TAP maintenance hangar.

dook 27th Nov 2018 16:26

Far East maybe.

Cows getting bigger 27th Nov 2018 17:17

Good shot Broadreach. Henry the Navigator was the hint and the photo below was going to be the 'give-away'. Over to you Broadreach.

broadreach 27th Nov 2018 17:30

Thank you Cows! I had figured out the "not USA, not UK but somewhere in Europe" but Henry was the giveaway! Ergo Porto. Try this.

broadreach 27th Nov 2018 18:21

Sorry India, non.
But not a thousand miles away.

dook 27th Nov 2018 18:25
