Sorry for the delay, chaps. I prepared a reply, clicked Preview but then forgot to click Post!
HH, They officially drive on the right in this country, but just like Indonesia, you have to be prepared for anything. I saw a video with three lanes of traffic. The two outside ones were going in the same direction and the middle one was going the opposite way! chevvron, The displaced threshold is a bit of a mystery. I’ve flown into this airport in an ATR 72 and I don’t remember any significant hill on the approach. This airport has been closed following the opening of a “jet-sized” airport nearby. The runway is now a rather wide road! |
The Mods speak!!
"Yellow bar top of every page. Every single one of you has an album to create and link to while stored on our server" "I was notified last night a new version of the site software is coming soon and it supposedly has two new ways for putting photos in. " |
Vietnam or Cambodia I think - driving on the right.
|
Vietnam or Cambodia If I was George Boole, I would say Yes. ;) http://sydneypadua.com/2dgoggles/wp-.../11/boole1.jpg http://sydneypadua.com/2dgoggles/wp-.../11/boole2.jpg However, since I’m not and in the interest of moving things along, it’s Vietnam. :) chevvron, I had a look at the elevations on the approach and there is nothing more than 25’ AAL, so the reason for the displaced threshold is unknown. |
Was It known as Phan Thiết airfield ?
|
Not Phan Thiết.
|
If it is Phu Quoc, I did this as a challenge several years ago...
C2j |
C2j,
Yes, it’s Phu Quoc. Sorry for the duplication. I didn’t see your post when I did a search. dook’s “Cambodia or Vietnam” was prescient. Phu Quoc is a large island in the Gulf of Thailand, south of the Cambodian coast. Currently Vietnamese, it is claimed by Cambodia. As a consequence, there is a large Vietnamese military presence in the north of the island. The airport was closed a few years ago and replaced by an International airport, which now flies in 1000s of tourists. Phu Quoc has been transformed from a laid-back tropical island to a destination overrun with new resorts. Raw sewage flowing into the sea has killed a large percentage of the coral reefs, which was one for the reasons for going there! C2j has control. |
I’ll make an executive decision and declare Open House.
