The plot thickens :) It is west of Tel Aviv, in the same sense that Newcastle is west of Southampton - 'Further west than...' is probably a better way to think of it. We aren't in Egypt.

Nope, not Dov Hoz either. But that guess is the closest so far. I had to do some careful measuring with my ruler and atlas to check if TLV or El-Arish were closer to the mystery aerodrome. Dov Hoz is definitely closer to it than Ben Gurion.

In order of closeness (closest first) : Dov Hoz, Ben Gurion, El-Arish, Amman,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Taipei :)

I use the distance measuring facility in Google Earth.

It has the advantage that over large distances it measures great circle values.

If Dov Hoz is closer then I assume we must be north of Ben Gurion.

My navigation skills have deteriorated since my flying days - able to "put a bomb in a bucket".

All I can find is Herzliya but I don't think that's it.
