Nice photo of the Beverley & as Jenkins quite rightly says from 84 Sqn, my photo was from the Mk1 Andover (1967/8) next aircraft type off the rank in 84 colours. A great first operational tour for many of us back in those happy days.

84 were at Akrotiri equipped with Wessex in 1986. I flew with them (ATC Easter camp) and saw their knickers.(Look at their Wiki entry if you don't understand)

So have we established that post 8925 is a taxiway in a sandstorm and post 8931 is Bait al Falaj? If so, shall we declare OH to keep the thread moving (JW411 was the first to identify it)? Nice photos BTW kaikohe76 and I42.

Madley
I understand Rudolf Hess was flown from here (gawd knows why) to Nuremberg for his trial so apart from training thousands of wartime radio operators, it has got a history!
and open house:)

Hi Chevvron,
Yes we had the `84 SQN Knickers` in a glass fronted box in the crew room at Sharjah, wonder what ever happened to them. A lot of history for this particular Squadron & for me, a great first operational tour as a rather fresh faced Andover Co Pilot. Regards.

They were still in the glass fronted box in '86.
Looking at google I see 84 are still in residence at Akrotiri now equipped with Griffon HAR2 helicopters so may even be in the same squadron hut; if so all the trophies were on the right as you enter.

Yes, That's it. Further celebrity status conferred by the training of Eric Sykes.

I knew the instructor who taught him to fly a Tiger Moth at Blackbushe in the 60s.

Looks European but doesn't really look like far north or far south. Rolling countryside. Not many airfields in this country.
I'm going to take one of my occasionally lucky wild guesses and say Wiltz, Luxembourg.

Ah, so it is in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg? If so, my Michelin road map of the Benelux only has the airfields at Wiltz and Findel marked. Stumped for the moment...

Madley

Back to previous challenge Hess was flown from Madley I expect because he was being held then at Maindiff Court Hospital Abergavenny which was nearby

dook 2nd Oct 2018 09:57

I think the challenge is Useldange.

dook 2nd Oct 2018 14:53

Many thanks J.

kaikohe76 - You need to win a challenge or the winner needs to declare Open House.
dook won the last challenge so he has control of the thread and we need to solve his puzzle first.
dook - Eastern Europe?

dook 3rd Oct 2018 07:22

Good morning all.

The challenge is in France. Think Luftwaffe.

It's in the NE so I assume so.

edit: a little research indicates silt soil.

dook 4th Oct 2018 19:43

Now there's a great shot.

Please take the floor. :ok:

dook 4th Oct 2018 20:21

....as I believe there is one itching for a chance.
I've already solved his.

nvubu 7th Oct 2018 09:26

As the other challenge hasn't reappeared, here's one from me to be going on with - larger version here

nvubu 7th Oct 2018 14:19

Not in France - or even in Europe.

dook 7th Oct 2018 14:24

Far east maybe.

Possibly fake buildings to hide an airfield.
