I recently found a heritage site which is excellent for photographs of extinct aerodromes.

All I have available are overhead photographs, so if you do not want one of those I'll throw it open. However if you all find that acceptable then I'm ready to post.

Somewhere in Africa?

friartuck 13th Sep 2018 11:28

Nigeria? looks bad enough

maybe not - most Nigerian strips have decent distance markings these days.........

Traffic looks to be driving on the right, so that excludes most of East & Southern Africa.

Edit to add:
Monrovia Spriggs Payne.

Sounds very much like Zaire/Congo.

Here's the next challenge

British and US flags flying - a meeting between the UK Prime Minister and a US President??? Possible a USSR flag as well - so we're maybe talking Yalta Feb 1945 - the coats would suggest a wintery day

That might be Churchill's personal C-54 or Roosevelt's C-54- the "Sacred Cow"

friartuck 13th Sep 2018 14:58

Churchill used both a York and eventually a C-54.............

friartuck has it in one. Welcome to the thread, look forward to your challenges.

Arriving for Yalta at Saki/Saky in Crimea Feb 1945.

Great challenge nvubu and well done friartuck.

The follow up pictures of Churchill in an RAF uniform intrigued me, so I did some research.

PPRuNe to the rescue!

Eastern Europe?

friartuck 14th Sep 2018 14:17

A long way from E Europe.................. actually quite a long way from anywhere civilised (for a given value of civilisation)

the screen shot doesn't show that there is actually quite a bit of agriculture locally..............

India Four Two 14th Sep 2018 17:55

ft,

Bearing in mind that there are different definitions of civilization, how about the Imperial Valley?

jensdad 14th Sep 2018 19:50

Hmmm, there are parts of Russia that are 'a long way from Eastern Europe'. Somewhere in Siberia?

friartuck 15th Sep 2018 07:43

No, neither........ tho Imperial Valley is closer......... and they speak Spanish as well..............
