Dalma, but that's close enough! OH has been declared.

Nothing to go on here. A clue might well be in order.

SE Asia...VYETNAM

It doesn't yet looked disused and I'm wondering if we are in the UK.

That's Stanley, Falkland Islands. I've actually used 36. :ooh:

OH if Jenkins agrees with my assessment.

Try this one. Sorry for the poor quality but taken on a mobile while on the move. You are looking at the Northern (ish) threshhold.https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.gmf...932d5fe506.jpg

A question about Stanley. Does anyone know why 09/27 has such large threshold displacements? Saving maintenance costs?

Cows getting bigger 2nd Sep 2018 06:36

The runway was extended significantly immediately after the 1982 conflict in order to accommodate F4s. This was predominately done use MEXE/PSP metal 'matting'. Once Mount Pleasant was open, there was little/no need to keep the long runway.

36/18 is a tad under 300m short; plenty for an Islander and indeed the Do228 that used to float around. 27/09 is about 1200m.

A shot in the dark.

Fair Isle ?

ea200 2nd Sep 2018 10:32

Not Fair Isle and not in the UK.

ea200 3rd Sep 2018 20:30

Time for a clue I think. This picture is taken from just below the Southern threshold looking roughly East. There are many of these things around here.
What drives them contributes significantly to local tourism.https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.gmf...c3c64eff2d.jpg

India Four Two 4th Sep 2018 02:57

ea200,

Is the tourism related to wind surfing?

ea200 4th Sep 2018 08:36

Yes it is.

Airclues 4th Sep 2018 18:54

South Africa?

ea200 4th Sep 2018 19:16

A long way from South Africa

India Four Two 4th Sep 2018 21:41

A different south? South of France?

ea200 4th Sep 2018 21:49

Not the South of France but a lot closer. This runway was carved out of the hillside in 1994 but abandoned not long after, following (I am told) a change of local government.

friartuck 5th Sep 2018 06:27

Broadford in Skye?

dook 5th Sep 2018 11:24

He has already said it's not UK.

sidtheesexist 5th Sep 2018 14:04

Long long shot.......went to Tenerife once and saw lots of windywurfers.....so, I’m thinking Canaries, looking on G maps it looks like a possible strip at Caleta de Famara on Lanzarote...?
