Twinwood Farm?
|
Was it by any chance a decoy airfield ?
|
Nobody heard my Mayday call - had to be rescued by a farmer.
So is it in what is now an LFA. |
That will be RAF Cottam, the one in Yorkshire and not the one used by the air traffic control school. |

The 42’s slightly bigger brother; it gets about a bit. This place has been done before but from a different angle. We’re looking North West with the runway to the right of view. |
Middleton St George? (or whatever it's called this week)

Nice try Chevron. However that’s sand not snow. :) |

Finals with a lowish & rather tight turn to come. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....bfa7c25ffc.jpg Same spot about to commence T/O roll |
Have we solved Cows getting bigger challenge then ?
|
Response is here & not for the first time, one`s hand is raised. Likely a bit quick on the final couple of buttons pressed, thanks to Jenkins tutorial. That was not the plan, so apologies are in order. Regards.

Is it Bait al Falaj? OH if I'm right.
|
The problem with this thread is the obscurity of challenges and the fact that clues are few and far between.
I would have thought that Cows might have given another clue by now. |
#8049: Gulf (Persian or Arabian according to taste)?

Salalha(?) by the indian ocean.

Thread drift.
Heard a story about the Beaver and Piston Provost at Bait. In the mess, when the Beavers were new, an argument was going on about which aircraft could fly slower, so a race was flown. At low level above the runway the two aircraft flew side by side with the Provost going slower until the two guys on the beaver pushed the doors open with their feet and flew even slower to win the race. IIRC Bait closed in 1975 when Seeb was opened. When I arrived in 76 the runway was still there. It then became the town of Ruwi. . |
I've never been to Bait al Falaj (never even heard of it until now!) but if it closed in 1976, then I'd say the photo just looks a bit too recent for it to be there?
Funnily enough, I see what you mean, chevvron: the hangars have the look of Teesside about them. Replace the sand with snow and it's a good shout. |
All a bit confusing, but on the "is it or isn't it Bait?" discussion, my vote is for Khasab.

Nice photo of the Beverley & as Jenkins quite rightly says from 84 Sqn, my photo was from the Mk1 Andover (1967/8) next aircraft type off the rank in 84 colours. A great first operational tour for many of us back in those happy days.
