Certainly looks like you scored a goodun, congratulations.

Your photograph reminds me of a line from "The Black Sheep".

Prior to WWII Pappy's mob were already "in country" so to speak on that "other" conflict, and met by chance a couple of times when travelling to and from, the same group of people who passed themselves of a missionaries assistants or whatever.

The line that stuck with me was when the observation was made by one of Pappy's boys, that these dudes had, "Crows feet clear back to their hair line," if you know what I mean?

I believe with some spiritual assistance they soon revealed the extent of their 'secret' missions.

Love the Royal Enfield pictures VF. These old British bikes are hard to find these days so I think someone must be building them in India, as I know they are quite common there now. Probably the same people who are producing all those 50's Morris Cowleys and Oxfords!

Dear Gemini Twin

Royal Enfield have been sold in India since 1948 & produced there since 1955. Owned outright by the Indians since 1957. All parts are still readily available from the factory :ok: They are an awesome machine :ooh:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Peter3127

Yes Mate You can, but the Electra (same as mine a 1946 design) is no longer made & sold as a complete unit, however parts for the same are still manufactured  Sadly the only new ones sold now days are the new generation (plastic) Classic which is not like they used to be, sadly the new ones are now crap :yuk:

You mention "Landslides" that valley in the picture must have been one hell of a movement, are the lower mountainous areas unstable in many area's.

Also you mention the inquisitive crowd , hence hanging the TR over the wall, is it easy to disperse them or do you have to push them back with whatever ground crew you have out there.

Stay Safe VF :ok:

Perhaps a dumb question but I notice you do not have sling mirrors mounted on your aircraft.
As well as being usefull in slinging they are great when landing in unprepared areas to see what is under the helicopter.
Just a comment as you obviously have you job very well in hand.
Thanks as usual for the great photos.

Ah, tractors and helicopters are alike in that they both appear to defy the laws of physics. Helicopters by remaining airborne, and tractors by moving the immovable.

I do hope those munchkins in the picture didn't just smoke that packet of cigarettes!

What's this I see your Cojo Rnzn wearing? Are helmets now in vogue as a result of the accident to I-VIEW or has 'elf and safety arrived in Nepal?

On a serious note, I am not knocking you for your personal preference to not wear one and I accept that wearing one does not make one invincible but personally, for the kind of ops you do and the environment you work in when pushing the flight envelope to its ragged corners every day then I think I would follow Rnzn's example......

Royal Enfield

Royal Enfield in India was the only manufacturer that has built a diesel motorcycle in mass production. A 6.5 hp industrial diesel was installed in the frame of the British-based Royal Enfield. However, due to pollution laws, this bike is no longer produced. It was one of the most fuel efficient bikes in India returning over 200 mpg-imp (1.4 L/100 km; 170 mpg-US). Initially street mechanics were mounting this engine in used Bullets, like retro Royal Enfield Bikes, with the 350 cc retrofit engine developing 18 hp. On seeing the success of these bikes; Royal Enfield started manufacturing Bullets with the diesel engine and named it the Taurus. The Taurus was available with an Electric Starter. A Saharanpur based company, Sooraj Automobiles produce diesel motorcycles with Royal Enfield gear box fitted with Lombardini 334cc diesel engine, Company advertised fuel efficiency of 80kmpl, and most of them are still in running condition
With competition getting intense, India's oldest motorcycle manufacturing company, Royal Enfield, is exploring newer segments, with the idea of bigger engines and diesel variants.Enfield is planning to bring diesel-powered bikes back into the Indian market, a project for which work is on.

hay VF, love your thread and please keep it up. One thing could you get your engineers to put some paint on the B3 tail rotor blades, this will make the tail rotor more visible to the prospective fodder and as an added bonus give them more life.

I have a thread elsewhere of my PNG Pics by Pigdog, may be of interest to you and any other viewers, but I must say it's not to the standard you have set.

Cheers

VF,

Always the best practise to park with the tail like that. Avoid most risks for the tail rotor. Just got the chilles, thinking of a stick poked in the wrong place. Have had my share of landings around Africa and India with sticks and stones... Worst actually being the guards hired in to keep spectators at a distance, they ALL have sticks..... let alone the AK's :E

For those of us that work in third world countries, sights of dead people are common, worse still is seeing badly injured children, that tears my hart, and you tend to go the extra mile to get them help. To be in a position to return loved ones to family is also a privilege, as hard as it is, but necessary all the same and you find that the family will be great full for ever. Good job VF.

As above. If I can I check this thread daily, to see the sights you see every day. Your pictures are really awesome and I hope you never stop showing us your scenery.

I've seen worse pictures on t'internet but you should know that some of us (whose day job doesn't involve dealing with the sort of sights you are no doubt accustomed to) do not want to, and are not used to seeing images of the deceased.

I would be happier imagining you never have to deal with this sort of stuff and fly about all day just to take stunning photo's.

Edit: Excellent, we have normality.

VF Brother

Are all the birds stationed at Kathmandu and dispatched from there or does the company keep birds at strategic locations like Pokhara, Nepalgunj and dispatch them as necessary?

Good morning gcpilot8

All based at VNKT, during the climbing season we base the AS350B3+ at VNLK to have a shorter response time for Sagarmatha (Everest) Rescues :uhoh:

As mentioned earlier VF, does a flight around Sagarmatha mean you go into China/Tibet? Does a rescue situation on the border allow you to cross into Nepals neighbours without the red tape?
Is the Chinese border there policed? Do they care?

We have an agreement with the US along the Alaskan border here like that.

I've said this before, but my morning routine consists of 1) coffee, 2) check for photos from VF!

Enjoy the photos of the colourful locals. The kids makes me think, our kids don't know how easy they have it. But the remarkable thing about human nature is that most kids seem to have a good outlook on life no matter what their environment, as long as their parents and community do as well.

Don't forget on those pee stops to land into the wind and pee downwind, not the other way round!

No we can not fly into Tibet, though due weather or during take-off or landing, flying between mountains small incursions may occur :\ Never can a Rescue be done from Nepal into Tibet (not legal) without massive red tape & to my knowledge it has never happened (yet) :ooh: Yes the border where practicable is patrolled & I am sure they would care if we violated International borders between us :}

VF brother Namaste

What part of the business at Fishtail do you think is VIP transport like ministers and government people? Just wondering as I see a Fishtail chopper transporting the Vice Prime Minister?

It was his party related event but wouldnt that task of transporting the vice PM fall under the Nepal Army??

How come a B111 can work as an air ambulance? Seems like it would be a tight squeeze to fit your average Norwegian or Aussie across the back seat row. Do you have problems fitting in non-local climbers who run into trouble? Love the thread.

Good morning gcpilot8

Sorry no clue as to a percentage but, very less VIP transport is done by us. Senior Ministers & the Prime Minister is flown around by the Nepali Army :ouch:

Glad Your enjoying this thread :O Not sure what a B111 is? If You are referring to the B206 then yep, she is a tight squeeze, but haven't had a problem yet in over 20 years of operating JetBox's

Happy Landings always :ok:

I hope everyone can appreciate the fuel management that goes into working in that environment. I go down to those levels when moving something heavy and fuel is right there but doing it when the fuel is far away is a very different exercise.
