Makes me hypoxic just looking at those photos, and makes me fidget too. Altitudes above 500' just make me fidget, above 3000' I just close my eyes and try to pretend I'm somewhere else where the air is far more dense.

G'day Thomas coupling........Your most welcome, glad Your enjoying. 24.8. Yes a few times, highest had to camp the Helicopter is 22.5; pull the battery out, keep it warm in the tent wrapped in a sleeping bag & cover the blades from icing build up. Coldest operated in is -40ºC :{

G'day BR............Mate petrol in the tank depends on the landing DA & cargo/PAX carried :ooh: I prefer to carry petrol in jerry cans & ditch it somewhere along the way at a lower altitude - big field/pad, to come back for a drink after the eXtreme mission is done & dusted :8

Heh, as an Oz pilot that rarely gets above 500' AGL i had to spend some time looking at that altimeter to see what it were reading. Is it the big hand on the altimeter that reads thousands, or is it the little hand...:)

However, ICAO standard 1013.25mb is for flight levels which very often has no relation to the actual height AMSL. Height may be better reflected in the pressure setting (QNH?) here and be used for more accurate terrain references.

Morning John....yes Your right Mate, we are basically setting a QNH referencing off the already known heights & comparing them with the GPS which both ring true & match. As it is all visual the altimeter doesn't mean that much, it's eyeballing that carries the greater weight. :uhoh:

To Right fadecdegraded.....this baby has landed on Everest twice & traveled to the outer realms of Earth's atmosphere. Sure as hell wouldn't wanna be exceeding Ng or T4 or Torque (errr torque, forgotten what that is). But service ceiling & performance is really more about the Pilot not the RFM which can be waaaay out up there :{

Curious? WIngs level, big altitudes(20 000+), 60 knots to hover, calm air.

Do you ever notice a cyclic pitch input tends to be "perceptibly" accompanied with roll? Finding yourself having to "j hook" or steer a little left/right with cyclic movements to get a straight forward pitch response.

Climbing out from Kathmandu to Chomolungma , any weird surprises with cyclic directional control that increases with altitude. Such as left cyclic inputs becoming the new forward cyclic at extreme altitude?

Apart from increasing mushiness and your subliminal "oneness" with the machine, is it pretty much business as usual , the cyclic goes where your mind...I mean hand points it?

Or does the squirrel seem to get a little more "squirrelly" with altitude?

No question, it takes a big set of nuts to keep it working up there!

How high do you land the bell 206 at?
And how many pax on board and how much fuel when you land at high altitude ?
next week I’m suppose to do a job with landings at about 12.5k in isa+10 conditions.
Usually I land at the 10.5k pad with 3 pob total including me and up to 45 USG.
I’m thinking to limit my fuel to 20 - 25 USG for landings at 12.5k with three souls on board.
What do you think ?

G'day haihio....highest in the JetBanger for me, has been 16,215' ISA +22º :} 1 x PAX & 15 usgals of Petrol (Fritz) :eek: 3 x SLB's @ 12,500' is pretty dang serious Mate....remember the Geni off trick for the take-off roll :8 & do a power check at 52kts pre committing :)

Just looking at that last pic makes me wonder. No doubt you encounter lots of lift and sink areas in the mountains - do you heli folks use the lift to help gain altitude? And sink to help you descend?

Job done!
I landed 6 Times at 12.3k in isa +10 conditions with the bell 206. I restricted the weight to one pax plus his paraglider (approx 25 kg). Fuel when landing was about 18 usg.
I had a stiff headwind with light turbulence so by keeping it pointing into wind all the time, believe it or not, I landed with the TOT in the green! I only got close to the Tot limit when counteracting for ( scary) downdrafts on approach.
I was landing on the summit plateau of Mt Kinabalu in Malaysian Borneo.

I think you’re right, it looks to me like the village is built on material already eroded via that valley. Similar to Australian towns built on the river flats, then everyone is surprised when it floods!

G'day SRFred....hmmm yer, at least here 80-90% of Nepal is organic using mostly Cow dung compost & green manure, which gets digested by the soils before being up-taken by Plants....so pretty safe I reckon :ok: No new Bike yet but we are eye balling the NIU all electric pocket Rocket :}

Hey Hot & Hi......Yar they are dang dangerous :mad: Medical???? Couple busted fingers never stopped me. Doc gave me my class 1 just the udder day so no probz :eek: Yep I think it was a bit third World, but it worked, got 95% mobility already....only need a 2 or 3 fingers on the Cyclic so it'll be fine :8

Hey Encyclo....‘twas stiffer than any lock-wire, almost impossible to bend. Was pinned for only 6 weeks, then the Doc with a rusty ole pair of pliers just yanked em out....no pain? :ooh:

Another rememberable training spot was an old concrete gun emplacement near the beach that was used for spot landing training on the roof of it. Probably end up in the slammer if tried it these days. Cheers mate.

Also did my float endorsement somewhere around there many moons ago.

Dear all,

We have just returned from a flight (via B3e) to Everest and back. Arranged by VF and his many contacts.

Like many of you, we looked at his amazing pics over the years and decided that we needed to come to Nepal and see all of this for ourselves.

WOW. A perfect day for my wife and I to go flying, the views (after leaving the smog-bound Kathmandu valley) are amazing. After landing in Lukla (the most dangerous airport in the world I think ?) for fuel, we headed for "orbit"...20,000 feet in a helicopter is very cool.

Everest and the other peaks are simply spectacular, as are the ice flows, glaciers, lakes and other sights.

We are blessed to have been able to have the experience and thank VF and his wife for all of their work.

If you want to do something amazing...contact VF and chat, he is a very nice chap, and no doubt will do his best to look after you.
