Not just based on rumour or slot applications, the reasonable expectations here were that CX would go daily and those expectations were not met. Hence a degree of disappointment. The fact that LGW has got a daily flight didn't help.

But yes, the fact that we are getting an extra flight with more premium seats and a slight increase overall in pax capacity on a newer a/c is welcome.
exactly..........

AA on top form today again with a 5 1/2 hr delay on the PHL service. Isnt it a bit worrying that now the only service that was reliable on AA is starting to get problems. I know ORD and JFK have been consistently poor reliability wise for years but PHL has always managed fine. Its almost like they want to give people an excuse not to use them so they can pull out

I'm not saying that it was the cause but did you ever consider that bad weather in Philadelphia might have been the reason? I only ask because I had read in the news that bad weather had been affecting areas of the east coast of the USA and New England over the last few days.

Aircraft arrived this morning at MAN 25 mins early, so the delay was at MAN for some reason.

My apologies, having not checked FLIFO I had not appreciated that it was the outbound flight being referred to.

Next time I'll double check all information.

Thomas Cook have announced a new route for 2018 (yes, the date is right).

Santa Clara, Cuba, begins at the end of May in 2018:

MT2620 MAN 1030 SNU 1510
MT2621 SNU 1710 MAN 0650

After Mauritius this winter, I hope this isn't a sign of Thomas Cook loosing focus and going after Thomson, as surely this is no coincidence mirroring 2 of Thomsons latest long haul routes from MAN?

"Once more into the beach, dear Friends....

Yes, another long thin route to an exotic beach destination. Once the bedrock of Thomas Cook and still an important part of their inventory, but we have become used to them branching out in to serving solid major city routes in the USA since then, leaving Thomson to specialise the 'holiday of a lifetime' market with their ultra-long reach Dreamliners. This seems a good strategy well-suited to MAN's diversity and resilience.

No doubt we're in danger of appearing to moan again about landing new routes or frequencies or aircraft types which many airports would die for. Taken in isolation the new Thomas Cook service is a positive development, as is the additional Cathay frequency to HKG. What some of us commentators look for is trends and perhaps the underlying policy of airlines and airports. Questions such as:

1. Will opportunities to add to the burgeoning capacity at London always de-rail the development of a proven, successful MAN service, or a promising potential one? Answer is probably Yes, which is frustrating, but MAN should eventually get the right level of service.

2. Will the fledgling Thomas Cook programme to major long haul destinations stall and force them back to focus on the beach / cruise market? Signs are that the former is reaching a sustainable mass but TCX probably want to maintain some diversity and presence in a market where they have a strong brand.

Roverman,

I think you have mis understood my comment.

It was not a moan that the route wasn't to the standard we have come to expect from Thomas Cook, more that I'm worried this is a strategy to make life hard for Thomson.

For W17, Thomas Cook have announced a bi-weekly Mauritius from Manchester. This has caused Thomson to drop their MAN-MRU route. Therefore, with SNU also being a new route for Thomson, I hope this latest TCX route doesn't drive TOM off the route, otherwise, it's not genuine growth.

Business is business, I'm not naive to misunderstand that, but, with such good headway made on things like USA routes, I'm just worried this becomes a distraction that isn't totally good news for Manchester?

Rest assured, LAX, that I didn't take your comment such, I just noted that some followers might perceive it so as there have been such comments on the reaction to the recent Cathay not going daily news. I fully understand your drift and share your concern - complementary route development is what we would most like to see. Some routes can survive and thrive on competition and multiple providers (Barcelona seems to be doing well) but the thinner ones may only offer enough market for a sole provider. Thomson are really good at the exotic market and they have the best equipment for it. I would rather see Thomas Cook build frequency to the US West Coast or add to the JFK in winter when the US carriers hibernate.

Would you rather the aircraft dispatched on time then fell out of the sky mid atlantic ?

One delay on the PHL service (in quite sometime) does not mean the whole system is broken.

Just be grateful there are vigilant people about who care about a safe operation and not just a statistic of on time departures!

LH A380 inbound to Manchester???

Just noticed on flight radar that a Lufthansa A380 appears to be on its way to Manchester. Shows as due at about 0440 tomorrow morning. Anyone know if this is correct or just a flaw in the system?
