A quick couple of points:
Several posts saying fuel costs of A319 v 737-800 can't be compared, but on FR's slide show, this is the one area that EZ have lower costs. Is this down to hedging, rather than efficiency or load factor?
Re: VIE, MUC & ZRH - these may have failed for other airlines, but iirc, they have all been cited as examples of very high cost 'palace' airports by EZ & FR on several occassions. Could EI have been given an offer they couldn't refuse at these hubs? As previously mentioned, the market for NOC should be able to take one carrier, and FAO / NCE / AGP are all well established sunshine routes where seats will always get sold.
I'm still sceptical about this new base, but that is based on previous info from the likes of EZ & FR. If EI have got themselves a good enough deal with the airports concerned, especially with mgt @ LGW itself, maybe they might just prove a lot of us wrong?

And do you think they will do Domestic flights within uk ?
Flyer55, I was speaking to a 'development person' within Aer Lingus a couple of weeks ago who for BFS the only route that they would have to the UK would be LHR, simply too crowded and not at all on the agenda.
As for any new routes within UK domestically not a chance. Transatlantic will be the firm focus once the short hauld LGW operation is up and running!
On a separate note, the aircraft for SNN LHR will be a LHR based machine. Will the crew be on UK terms or Irish terms, i mean the crew could come from the same pool as the new LGW base?? What's the story here??

Aer Lingus A330 Poland
As the title says, I happened to see an A330 from Aer Lingus in Krakow today. Is this a usual thing?

EI had two flights to Krakow today, a 320 and the 330-200 (EI-LAX). There was also three flights into Warsaw, two 320s and a 330 (EI-DUB). Not usual, but at this time of year the number of Polish travelling home probably justifies the Big bus making the journey.. you never know EI might be sussing out a Eastern Europe base

Plus all the subprimers in the usual places you find a 330 at this time of year might be a wee bit too skint to make the trek...

heard a rumor today that EI might start flights from BFS to Fuerteventura sometime after the new year at this rate they will need to have a 4th base aircraft unless they will take advantage of BFS being open 24/7

A very merry Christmas and all the very best to all participants in the EI forum (and all in EI) for 2009; it's probably not going to be a pleasant year for any airline, but I hope that Our Favorite Airline gets through it with flying colours.
