Manchester would be nice, we have a couple of big holes left by BA / Bmi

The North west has huge Irish population that know what a shamrock is, so no problem with brand awareness.

Route through Shannon, clear US customs there and still provide a service for the nice folks in the west of Ireland !

Dreaming I know !

It would be a very clever move if EI could operate transatlantic flights from LHR effectively under contract to UA. That would be a real practical impact from deregulation. Thinking a little forward UA is part of Star. LH is part of Star. LH owns BD. Why not merge BD's long haul fleet with EI's?

Well the development announced at today's press conference may surprise many of us:

My reading of that is that they're going to set up a joint venture company to operate the service rather than having Aer Lingus operate it.

How would that sit with the various unions in both United and Aer Lingus?

AerLingus will be operating the service with A330.

The joint-venture service covers:
It is intended that both carriers will equally share the commercial and operating benefits and risk, with Aer Lingus managing the operational aspects of the new partnership services and United Airlines taking responsibility for managing revenue generation.
The pair plans to gradually increase such service and open new routes by Summer 2011

AERL.L

With share price now at 1.34 and a drop of 5%

The only way out of this for the Irish Government is to sell to MoL at 1.40

Lets face it, Ireland has huge problems ahead and the government will need cash to pay for the essential public services. (police)

I guess we have less than a month to wait.....

Game over, Ball burst

Not going to happen. Government just rejected this offer on the grounds of price and competition.
This deal is now dead at €1.40

The Government has rejected Ryanair's offer of €1.40 per share for its 25% shareholding in Aer Lingus. Transport Minister Noel Dempsey said the Government believed the Ryanair offer greatly undervalued Aer Lingus and would have a significant negative impact on competition in the market.

'Because we live on an island Irish consumers depend very heavily on air transport. A monopoly in this area would not be in the best interests of Irish consumers,' Minister Dempsey said.

A good day for the folks at ei.
Although it may not be over yet.

That was expressed very oddly.

Is it a genuine new route strategy for Aer Lingus or the very-wet-lease of an otherwise underemployed aircraft on a new United route?

Will it be non-stop or via DUB/SNN.

If non stop, I'm assuming the AC in question will do DUB-IAD-MAD-IAD-DUB rather than an empty or near empty positioning flight from DUB or SNN to MAD.

If so, how would that look on departure times?

Anyone have any insight?
