The

If FR is allowed to take over IE it will be to no-ones benefit. IE will be ruthlessly ripped apart. Anyone who believes different is seriously deluded. Anyone who says different is likely FR.

FR have not got the interest of any consumer in mind, only the interest of FR and their management. Likewise any other airline for that matter.

The difference is simply one of size. Destroying competition would bring significant business benefit to FR, that's all.

IE has enough competition to keep it competitive in the marketplace. In fact right now there is hardly a single airline that is isn't concerned about staying in business at all. The carnage has hardly even started.

Those who say that the price offered is reasonable are absolutely correct in a strict business sense. That does not mean that the takeover is to everyones benefit. There is no relation at all between getting a decent price for an asset held and the greater good of the community.

Does anyone need a reminder of the extremely serious situation we are all in right now and how we got here?

Aer Lingus to resume Shannon-Heathrow flight

BreakingNews.ie | Irish News | Breaking News from Ireland

22/12/2008 - 11:08:45

Aer Lingus has announced its intention to resume flights between Shannon and Heathrow Airport near London from March of next year.

The airline attracted much criticism when it scrapped the flights earlier this year in favour of services between Belfast and Heathrow.

However, it now says it will resume twice-daily flights to and from Shannon in March 2009.

The decision follows the recent agreement by staff to accept work practice changes at Cork, Dublin and Shannon airports.

MOL says Ryanair would reintroduce SNN- :LHR and amazingly EI management do this after saying there was no intention of doing it.

MOL says Ryanair would cuts EI fuel surcharges and yet again amazingly EI run and follow suit.

EI can spins the return to SNN-LHR as changes agreed with the Unions but they are then admitting the reasons for moving in the first place were invalid and they were not telling the truth.

So why again would employees trust existing management ?

So why does O Leary want to buy Aer lingus still, if the management are carrying out his wishes for free ?
Should Aer lingus workers trust O Leary as an employer instead ?
Those of us who are not spotters are well aware of what is being attempted here and do not feel inclined to entertain you anymore.

You imply they should trust MOL then? Like he never misleads or stretches the truth when it suits now does he. Hhmm Buzz springs to mind. Don't we all work only 15 hours a week according to MOL? How many times has he told anyone with a different view to him to go and get fecked? The constant threat of lawsuits if you make a stand. I don't want to pay to rent my ticket kiosks at Dublin airport so I know I will sue the DAA and withhold a whole wad of cash due to them for landing fees. Problem is judges don't like that heavy handed type of behaviour and they made their views plain and clear. Nice flavour of what he would get up to if he ever got control of EI and had 75% of the traffic at Dublin. New runway or expansion....only if it suits MOL and of course at no cost to him or his fares.

Then there is the unpaid leave, paying for your shiny new type rating so that he can offload those 43 Boeings due next year that he has nowhere to fly. I can't wait till he announces in the new year his forecast loss. Should be a new record low for him. Worst kept secret it seems amongst the analysts as more and more are picking up on it and downgrading his stock to a sell.

If I was MOL I would be watching my back. With his share price wallowing he just might find that there are some big airlines out there interested in picking up a stake and reining him in and getting payback.

MOL says Ryanair would cuts EI fuel surcharges and yet again amazingly EI run and follow suit.

Yet MOL still complains and demands to know what impact cutting the surcharge will have on Aer Lingus and their cash. So what is he, a concerned investor one minute or a rival out to damage Aer Lingus as much as possible the next?

Aer Lingus are just making his offer less and less attractive by eliminating all of his supposed promises but the question is would MOL have really keep his word on those promises anyway because it doesn't seem like MOL is serious about working to make a better Aer Lingus, he can't even make his mind up so why should anyone else. I think it's time for him to get a less expensive hobby.

Its a fair question as EI seems to be operating in a knee jerk style of management with no clue to the longer term.

The business is not generating cash so do you just continue to use up cash reserves to support it ?

I dont beleive that this was a knee jerk reaction by EI even though its timeing would suggest so. According to DM they have reviewed the short haul operation at SNN for a few months now and agreed a new deal with the airport management. I find it hard to believe that they would restart a route at a minutes notice just because of MOL or a few backbenchers say so without reduving costs on it first.
Great news though. I wish they would run a late evening one way service from Dub to SNN to compliment the morning service on the A330's. They are in the best position to do so now.

On the plus side though they dont have to find work for scores of new aircraft as they close bases, while their CX chases his tail with bubblegum tv appearances.

'So why again would employees trust existing management ?'. A very good question given that a few months ago, according to EI management, the end of the Aer Lingus world was nigh with a projected loss of 20M euro looming. Time to tighten belts, lay-off staff, reduce terms and conditions. Now they are reactivating a route they threw away, opening a new base and, according to the BBC news site, will return a profit for 2008. I think some very serious questions should be asked by the employees about the management competence to manage. The staff can't know whether they are coming or going - just like the management.

Snn Lhr

The return of EI on SNN LHR has been under consideration since September although the fact that it's Dublin that has lost the slots is a bit of a surprise.

I wonder how AF/City Jet feel about the move as its bound to dilute the yield on the twice daily SNN CDG service now that it will no longer be the only connection to a major hub.

Shannon

Dell presently softening the blow of possible 2,000 job losses in Shannon region after the festive season and by coincidence EI pleased to announce they have found a way to be back on the LHR to Shannon. You scratch my back and I'll keep FR off yours!

A few serious issues that need to be answered and addressed :

1.'The Irish government has told Aer lingus that unless it re-instates the snn to Heathrow service, there will be substantially more support among TDs for the ryr takeover bid.' - And look what just happened! Most people on here are not fools ,so dont even attempt to believe Mannions spin at his press conferance(blushfully gobbling that it was due to costs and oil). Please dont insult me or your fellow peers. The reason EI left Snn was to cut costs . The argument runs Aer Lingus thought its Shannon fees were essentially subsidising Ryanair's supercheap deal, which is linked to the huge volumes of ryr traffic that go through the co.clare airport. The question must be asked - how can EI(in this far more challenging climate then august 07) run routes from snn AND belfast.Heathrow isnt cheap??Belfast is also not performing to hot

2.How in the hell can EI survive and establish a base in Gatwick or 'Fortress Easyjet'.Ryr havent even attempted this - for obvious reasons.EI are now trying to rerun the SNN service and build a base?Too much going on at once without much clear focus if you ask me.Some people are spouting on about ryr cutting routes in a panic(due to cost cutting and recession obviously) however surely this is A LOT more wise then making hasty decisions to open routes and rerun routes(most of which are highly competitive)!!i think cutting routes to save cash in this period is far more prudent then establishing routes and bases in a panic to fend of a takeover attempt.

3.Over the past few days the take over attempt has caught the spotlight.EI have focused on short haul boasting about reopening the snn service and opening gatwick(god help us).Lets not forget- the dwindling Long Haul service will end up being the final nail in the coffin

Lets hope EI refocus on a few routes and airports rather then a futile attempt at expanding there short haul network in the midst of a serious serious recession,ie focus on fixing long haul.

There IS a space at LGW now. traffic has fallen off a cliff ( a smallish one ) since XL went under and the bulk of the long haul moved to Heathrow. Hence there is a once in a decade opportunity to get slots at a busy London airport, so it is undeniably an opportunity. I think the level of co-operation with BA might be a fundamental here, but good luck with having the balls to get on board here.
As to SNN, it was an admittedly profitable route to LHR that is being re-instated partly for political reasons, partly because a lot of people think dropping it was a dumb idea in the first place. I don't think they are going to have a short haul base anytime soon as any fees they pay to SNN pay for FR to fly for free. We shall see.
