Bhx T1
Avman has a record of complaining at which ever airport he uses, check out his message history.
On occasions however there have been occasions when I have used T1 and the queues have been excessive. I would imagine that the problem may be linked to staff sickness at the moment.
There aren't any "wide body" departures in the morning ex BHX during the winter months but hopefully when the new pier with its lounges and better system of passenger flows these problems should be eased.

Staff Sickness at BHX same as everywhere just now ...terrible ...various dreadful bugs doing the rounds but staff really pulling together to get everything possible done for passengers. Nice to see and is and always has been a strength at the airport - the ability for the staff to give their all for the airport.

AA 767's
Very strange, in all the years I looked after them we only had problems with standard 762's never with any of the ER's -200 or -300 unless there was exceptional wx enroute. The standard 762's were constantly having last minute offloads as they couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

BHX security can experience long queues, particularly during the summers, but having travelled out of BHX regularly, perhaps 5 or 6 times per year, for the past 3 or 4 years it remains my No.1 choice of airport to travel thru.
Unlike so many other airports I have yet to come across a member of the BHX security staff that has an attitude problem, indeed I have entered in to a banter with them occasionally, and aside from sometimes queuing to get thru security it has to be one of the most stress free airports I have travelled thru.

I agree - as a passenger experience BHX does very well indeed.
I use the BMIBABY service to AMS many times a year - and you should see the sheep pens they make passengers wait in at the gate at AMS!! Absolutely shocking!
From the reliable car park buses to the friendly chaps on the over-sized luggage scanner at 5am in the morning, BHX is still doing it well in my eye.

Strangely enough though, you go on to say:
On occasions however there have been occasions when I have used T1 and the queues have been excessive.
For the record, I made no complaint about the security staff themselves, nor their attitude. I find them on the whole excellent.
And also just for the record I have used BHX regularly for the past 45 years and overall have had mainly good experiences. That doesn't mean things are perfect and there's always room for improvement.

Agreed BHX security is excellent, As a regular passer through crew gate excellent service its just a shame they are not allowed to take a sensible attitude regarding liquids. Can anyone explain why the 100ml liquids rule is rigidly enforced in UK, but in Europe relaxed at crew gates? Is it not an EU regulation?

Wide body movements

I stand corrected. There are indeed wide body charter flights ex BHX during the late morning period. However these once daily Thomsonfly long-haul flights depart during the mid to late morning, the most quiet period for departing scheduled services.
The problem on that particular occasion was probably caused by staff sickness. Generally even during the summer months BHX copes as well if not better than its competitors when it comes to waiting for security, immigration and baggage handling.

Swissport........
Redwings sorry to rain on your parade at Swissport but this is one of a number of problems that only Swissport seem to have. For seem reason you never hear of any Servisair or Aviance problems making the paper and even onto the local evening news. If you say it has not happened how come a Swissport 'spokeman' has come out and said we are looking into the incident......
When was the last time an aircraft was taken out and hangerised for months, oh yeah ZB by you guessed it Swissport....
Seen on many occassions flight deck loading their own plane as not to inncur delays, Swissport.
Ringing around other handling agents to ask them to put on A/B as they have no trained staff. Swissport.
Leaving a ZB a/c in the taxiway for 10 mins only last night.
Handling agents all have problems but seems Swissport seem to have the most and are the most published...

But don't checkin staff look at the passport to match the ticket? Surely whoever checked this person in could tell the difference between a boy and a girl and that the names wouldn't match.
Who would pay the fine? PIA or Swissport?

Security
BHX security to get airside are only there to check boarding cards and photograph pax on domestic routes. Reason for them apllying a small sticker on boarding cards with a barcode that corresponds with the photograph. Obviously they also carry out full screening of pax as well but this has not been called into question in said article and has never been before.
The handling agents are responsible for checking documents for flight such as tickets and passports. They carry this out at check-in and at the gate, I beleive also on the PIA that an outside security company also do screening at the gate and possible this is the third faliure that the article refers to.

Not unexpected but as Summer 2009 shows two daily EDI & GLA and
BFS some days, Jan/Feb/Mar 2009 shows this frequency as well now.
The only difference and for business pax it is a major one, they have
retained the 2nd flights original schedule on GLA & EDI. Therefore
last departure from BHX is around 3.15-3.30pm.
Useless if you want a days business in either direction.
However the summer schedule does show 17.00 departures
from bhx for EDI/GLA/BFS which should help.
They could have changed the timings in January to help with a
day trip but unfortunately it problably would have meant altering
about 2/3rd's of their schedule which I suppose was never going
to happen.
flybe have also adjusted some of their mid Jan to mid Feb
schedules (as they have most years) but do add Q400's
on 22/1/09, 1/2/09 and 23/2/09 in place of 145's (Frankfurt,
Paris and Stuttgart gain capacity).
