Great news about FR new routes at BHX, bring on more I say....I know that FR do not necessarily help the balance sheet but fact is they will bring in additional pax and new destinations, two things that BHX needs right now. Lets hope there are no more toys out the pram (on either side) and that FR and BHX can begin a viable relationship that benefits both parties
From what I understand BHX does not offer ridiculous deals to attract the likes of EZY and FR - they come because they can see a market that they can exploit. Thats probably why, at this stage FR is not basing units at BHX or MAN.
EZY will be basing aircraft at MAN as a result of their inheriting the GB Airways route network, rather than any other motive at present.

ATNotts - agreed, there is a lot of potential at BHX for FR as there are a lot of unserved destinations that with FR's low cost base could be viable and I for one am delighted that they have seen some of this potential and been able to come to a deal with BHX to realise it. I don't think that BHX will see a fully fledged FR base in the near future (and this would undoubtedly cause problems for Baby and Flybe which would be bad news) but then again no-one was expecting three new routes from them this summer so who knows?? I do think though that FR and EZY have got their eyes on both BHX and MAN which lets face it are the two biggest airports in the UK that upto now have not had a major presence from either arline - so it will be interesting to see what happens next..........

And MAN have not been bending over backwards to get a deal at any cost - the Airport's Commercial Director has said this deal has taken a long time to sort out as it had to be right for the airline AND the airport.

Quite a relief, as loads have not been good.
Turkish
online bhx timetable shows TK1974/3 in at 1225 out 1325 on Monday,
Wednesday & Saturday from 31/3/08.
I thought it was just a slot application at present and no more than that.
Any news, certainly nothing on their website when I last looked.

You sound very confident.
Baby have held out fairly well at EMA against FR & EZY and reasonably well at Manchester against various airlines. However they did not have much competition at Cardiff or BHX until recently and there are signs of them consolidating (BFS-CWL going to one a day and GLA).
In fact at BHX they have retreated (and rightly) on the EDI & GLA. The billboard is still up on the A45 near the airport boasting of 5 flights a day
to EDI and 4 to GLA (against BE's 8), which of course never happened.
This was not down to lack of aircraft in September when they were due to start but more to do with the 30 or 40 pax on the last inbound flight. In fact next summer they both drop to 2 a day in July and August whilst the aircraft flies to sunnier climes (quite right as well). BE have clearly held out in this little battle.
It will really depend on the markets FR & EZY go for at Manchester. Twice a day FR Belfast City could affect Baby's three flights to Aldergrove (but most likely flybe) also if they eventually chose Alicante (FR Base) or some French routes and Easy start Malaga as rumoured it could put pressure on them. It might be a couple of years down the line and who knows where Baby will be then.

EZY MAN Base
Two things - first, I believe that any such "agreement" made by LPL that resticted EZY from operating from MAN would probably have fallen foul of EU competition rules. Second, never believe everything that is said by a Commercial Director - as a species they speak a different language, made up largley of spin and a certain economy of the truth!! That's not a swipe at MAN's Commercial Director - but at the breed in general. If I were him (or her) given the circumstances, I would have been only too pleased to take the credit for this good fortune. (And I'm not a profession spin-meister!).
That said, I would still would still place a small bet on EZY eventually having small bases at both of the UK's (non-BAA) principal airports.

I believe that could well have been the case but we will never find out. Allegedly any dispute of this nature seems to have been settled without getting to court where details would have probably been revealed.
In this particular instance this is completely untrue. Not good fortune but hard work over a very long period.

That was just the civvie side!
What about RAF Birimingham?
One VC10, one L1011 and one C130, never thought that would happen in one day.
Also the A340 as well on civvie side - a true red letter day.

Never seen before at BHX and probably never again four Air India's
on final call.
A brilliant day for BHX and all who worked, I am sure not over-run
with staff the Sunday before Christmas, what a performance.
RED WINGS
Tassilia Airlines of Algeria, probably on an air test as it was the 2nd of
an expected 3 Q400's for flybe maintenance. The first having been and
gone and the third arriving, I think in the New Year.

Wow now that IS a departure board.........well done BHX and to those who were working to make sure all went as smooth as possible - maybe AI might change their minds about Munich now ..........
I know this has been mentioned before but I think BHX should be making a lot more of the fact that for 2008 the airport is showing a very healthy range of long haul charter flights - Montego Bay, Sal-Cape Verde, Taba, La Romana and Punta Cana (Dom Rep) are new flights alongside the existing Orlando, Cancun, Goa, Bridgetown, Puerto Plata, Luxor, Sharm ES and Hurghada. This is some achievement and brings BHX well ahead of other regional airports (excl MAN of course) in charter long haul flight offerings. Bring on Mombasa and Varadero now!! It will be interesting to see how things go from 2009 once TOM and FCA have fully integrated, lets hope this healthy trend continues!

I spoke with an Emirates rep down at Heathrow over Xmas & they mentioned that if the BAA strikes went ahead, Emirates have approached BHX to operate an extra two flights (probably both B773's) out of Brum on those affected day's

Without wishing to repeat the entire discussion/debate on here, it appears to be MOD policy, not BHX policy. There is still no info on who gave the order for the squaddies to change into civvies.
