November pax up

http://www.uk-airport-news.info/birm...ews-121207.htm

Thought it might have been a little higher but considering two Sundays
of weather disruption not too bad.

Emirates not mentioned directly again but I bet it was up. Nobody seems
to blow the EK trumpet much at BHX - trying to keep under the radar?

As for the earlier comment of a third service a day, the real problem is
the 2nd flight, which seems to have exceptionally high load factors.
The spare seats are on the 773 in the afternoon (sometimes).

With three two class 772's leaving the fleet the next upgrade would be
a 773 on the evening (like Manchester) and I bet there are quite a few
contenders for any spare aircraft. Cape Town is the latest route announced but on a three class 332 to start with then a three class 777.

Rumours around that Jetstream Express have been approached to operate the DND-BHX flights for Whoooooosh with a J31

I would have thought a Saab 340 would have been the ideal aircraft for this route but I guess there aren't too many Saab 340 operators in Europe

Dundee

FC

Agreed 340 or J41 or even Dash 8 - 300 but a J31.

I assume that they would have to alter their fare structure to accommodate a J31?

Dundee

Just me but I would prefer Flybe to leave Eastern alone on the Inverness and put their new flight to Dundee instead.

Why would taking on LH cause a problem for Swissport? The LH system would just have babbel put on top and the check in staff wouldn't know any different. And just for info most of our Flybe problems were down to IT issues, gates not signing in/printing, shortage of lines etc more than anything else.

On the subject of contracts, do you think LH might show some allegance to their old handling unit, Globe Ground, now part of Servisair, in the same way bmi favours Aviance after the take over of BM Handling a few years ago? In the modern world nothing can be taken for granted though, there will always be suprises (though not too many of the XYZ Airlines start tomorrow kind I hope).

LH

Groundhog,

LH already favour Globeground, the ticket desk staff are all globeground staff not LH or Aviance but changing H/A's is a far bigger deal for them, as I said they get a very competitive price at BHX & despite what has been said in the past they won't move to T2, that was offered last year & rejected due T'2 poor facilities & an extra arrivals belt has'nt changed that too much. I can't see this contract changing for a few yrs yet.

Have you heard about the newest Star alliance member ........."Air India"!!
will this mean another H/A change at BHX? Christ i hope not!!!!!!!!

I know all about the look around T2, we showed them round!!! Some times the change isn't to do with the rate they pay, it's to do with the grass being/seeming to be greener. I seem to remember that MYT didn't pay less for us to handle them than Aviance.

There has been talk of AI moving to us as well, I can feel a change of job coming on

Flywhoosh

Looks as if Aden has failed to get another aircraft sorted out, took a look at the website today & found this:

Due to the sustained bad press afforded to the suspension of flights from Dundee and the consequent collapse of customer confidence, the flight operator planning to replace White Eagle on their routes has now decided to withdraw from the opportunity.

This is much regretted by the FlyWhoosh sales companies who feel that had there been less ‘outrage’ and more ‘support’ from regional press and politicians, then flights may well have recommenced from this week. This will now not be happening.

Any bets on Flywhoosh operating again this year??

easyJet at BHX

Geneva route appears to be off to a good start and hopefully the same will apply to the Grenoble route. However at this stage it looks increasingly likely that Manchester will get an easyJet base before BHX.Is this another missed opportunity for BHX or will its turn come ?

EZY

Who knows.

The MAN bae is more of a result of the GB takeover.

Not true but it has helped as Easy have been trying to get in to MAN for a couple of years but the legal problem always stalled their plans until
GB Airways came along and they were forced to sort it or pull out the
GB operation as well

I think it is obvious now the legal issue over LPL is apparently sorted that Easy will open a base in MAN - whats not so obvious is whether Easy will simply maintain the current GB network or will indeed open up new markets and/or compete with other locos already there. As for BHX, well the GVA is year round now but with MAN on the cards I don't think a base is likely for a long while, unless BHX are prepared to strike a deal with Easy (which probably would involve serious concessions on their part in terms of charges etc) - I think the best BHX can hope for is a few more W flying patterns from Easy's mainland Europe bases (Berlin being the glaringly obvious one, Dortmund a possibility?)

With EZY moving into Manchester (& rumours of RYR also increasing their North West presence), it could turn into a bit of a "blood bath" up there so will Baby stay & fight or will we see them move their MAN based units to BHX & EMA?

I thought SXF was a banker for easy if nothing else

FC

If the heat is put on by FR & EZY at MAN, I am sure WW will retreat but so far so good as non of the routes announced this week will bother them too much. CSA are increasing Prague slightly and rumoured to increase it further at MAN but that won't worry them too much.

It is in fact at BHX where the pressure has come with FR GRO and MRS. The saving grace is that MRS is on different days and the market
should be big enough for BCN & GRO from BHX.

Good job BHX got some routes today or they might be dropping another
position down the pax table with EDI's new ones. I know this in real
terms does not matter as it is the overall profitability of the airport, which is paramount but EDI is on the up at the moment.

Wanted PSA for ages but not particularly lo-cost fares at certain times.
