I'm taking the long view, UK growth has to go somewhere, the larger airfields generally have not got the runway capacity available. I am quite sure the next three years will see new links from the UK regions to DXB and the Gulf. EDI and BRS have to be front runners there. But don't rule out others..

As for the US, open skies will change things dramatically over the next two years. New routes all over the place.

Mr O'Leary may yet show up running a Loco long haul carrier, routes to US and Asia. If he does, you can bet they will operate from 'unusual points' in the UK. With bus services to the capital/cities..

Lets not get distracted though, obviously near term - 1-2 years - growth at BOH will be in the loco arena.... and the long haul leisure charters.

Have to agree with the some of the posts above , Bournemouth has done really well to secure some new routes and based airlines but the case now has to be the state of the terminal buildings they are probably the worst arrivals area in the UK and yet again work seems to have stopped on any development at the moment . I think its the New Forest council who are the latest to object so its down tools until this has been sorted out

Bournemouth has finally started to produce the passenger figures that most airports want to see before they start to invest in the future and the facilities that go along with it , but Bournemouth s growth in this area has been painfully slow resulting with bits added on and moved about to produce a real tatty interior that would put most passengers off flying from here i would have thought especially if your delayed for any length of time

I really hope we start to see some results soon on this , a lot of this should have been done this winter ready for another busy summer but at the moment it just looks awful everywhere you look

If the alternatives are LHR or LGW a slightly tatty interior does NOT put pax off from using BOH.

Larnaca is now back on now for summer 2008. It's now operated by Olympic Holidays on wednesdays in September and October by a Eurocypria 737-800.
There are now 4 routes operated on their behalf from BOH this year.

At the moment it looks like Bournemouth is keeping its 1 based Thomsonfly 737 300 for next winter season although on a much reduced flying programme . Routes that are stopping are
Alicante
Fuerteventura
Paphos
Funchal

The flying programme at the moment is this although very much aware things change at any given time

Monday
No flights planned

Tuesday
BOH AGP BOH TFS BOH

Wednesday
BOH LPA BOH

Thursday
BOH FAO BOH

Friday
BOH AGP BOH TFS BOH

Saturday
BOH GNB BOH ---- BOH LPA BOH ( may be a SZG squeezed in )

Sunday
BOH TFS BOH ( may be TRN squeezed in )

Least we still have an aircraft here but obviously Ryanair are moving in on a lot of the popular destinations and Palmair continue with the other routes like Funchal , Fuerteventura , Monastir and Malta

Italian getaways are flying again to Brescia this summer but not via Bristol however there programme is starting late July this time and they are also not returning to Salzburg this year due to lack of available 737 aircraft from European Aviation !

Flybe at nearby Southampton have picked up a bit of extra work though with a charter direct from there to Brescia using spare capacity at the weekend . Obviously European must be doing ok. Haven t heard much about them recently , but they seem to plod on each year with there trusty 737 s .

European are doing very well, but have just reduced their UK operating fleet by one aircraft, sending a 5th B737-200 to Australia for sister company OzJet. OzJet will be using this jet until B737-300's come on line to serve their new Palmerston North services into New Zealand; plus their Norfolk Island services. Perhaps the B732 will then make its way back to BOH. I'm sure the B737-300 will eventually make its way into the European part of the company but time will tell. Palmair would be much better suited to the B737-300 with the increase in mid-range routes they seem to be targeting.

That means 1 or 2 B737-200 for Palmair and 2 B737-200 for general air charter work (one is normally undergoing maintenance!)

Does anyone know why Titan recruited for staff at BOH, will they be doing the winter programme for TFly possibly?

We at BOH just hope T/Fly manage to operate at least a couple of aircraft per week on time as the old 733 are not doing them any favours.

Anyone heard anything regarding a possible Easyjet announcement about new routes???

I ask because earlier this week a colleague of mine was flying back from Malaga airport and Easy were doing promotional work there and mentioned to them that U2 would start Malaga to BOH from early summer.

Bournemouth has again done really well this month compared to many of the other smaller airports

Bournemouth handled 73 , 777 pax down less than 1 % on last Feb . Taking into account there is no Padderborn , Madrid , Shannon , Pisa and Amsterdam services this winter

Good growth on Prestwick at 70 % and Geneva at 73 % given the extra services this year

Katowice ( Wizz air ) 58 %
Krakow ( Easy Jet ) 60 %
Gerona 66 %
Las Palmas and Tenerife both at 93 %
Dublin 56 %
Bergamo 38 % ouch ... !

All in all an excellent result for Bournemouth

Glad to hear that the little guys can hold their own in the current market.

Passenger figures take off
By Tim Saunders Bournemouth Daily Echo

SKY'S THE LIMIT: Bookings are up 43 per cent at Palmair
BOURNEMOUTH-based tour operator Palmair has reported a 43 per cent increase in bookings in the first two months of this year.

The increase is in forward bookings for travel between May and October which will see the operator carrying between 55,000 and 60,000 holidaymakers.

Palmair celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of its first flight from Hurn Airport (now Bournemouth International Airport) in October. Palmair staff described the figures as "phenomenal".

Managing director, David Skillicorn said: "We are obviously thrilled at the increase, which is based on the number of bookings made in January and February over the same period in 2007.

"I'm sure any company would be pleased at even a modest rise in business, so we are delighted with growth of this magnitude."

He said early bookers picked up the best deals, paid the lowest deposits and enjoyed the biggest choice.

He added: "It's quite clear we are holding our own at a time of unprecedented choice of destinations and carriers, particularly with the growth of budget airlines." The best performing Palmair destination is Majorca, closely followed by the Canary Islands.

The company sells around 50,000 package holidays a year in total, operating two Palmair European Boeing 737s out of Bournemouth in the summer and one in the winter. Mr Skillicorn said he believed more and more travellers were fed up with the no frills approach on budget airlines and extra payments for basic services.

"We have spent five decades working very hard and providing all the frills we can for our clients and we have no intention of changing that policy," he said.

"We have a great team at Palmair and recognise that as a local business we are accountable to the people we take on holiday. We are not just a faceless organisation at the end of an internet connection."

The first Palmair flight took place on October 25 1958 to Majorca and the same date this year will also feature Palmair's regular weekly service to the island.

True, the first flight was in Jan 1993 and was an BAe 146 operated by Flightline.

Anyone know if the airport has anything special planned to celebrate the arrival of the based FR plane tomorrow ready for it's first routes on Thursday?

I know the Echo are very good at getting it wrong but this is taken directly from the Bath Travel website so I guess they should know what they are talking about!

"It's what we do best
Palmair celebrates 50 years of holidays from Bournemouth

For the past five decades Palmair has been doing what it does best – offering great holidays from Bournemouth Airport with award winning service and taking care of you from start to finish. This year – our fiftieth flying from Bournemouth - will be no different."

I believe Palmair as the holiday arm of Bath Travel have been operating for 50 years while Palmair as an airline (albeit using Flightline and then European aircraft) have been around for 15 years.

History Lesson

Bath Travel - who own PALMAIR, began charter ops to Spain from Bournemouth in 1958 - 50 years ago : http://www.bournemouthairport.com/bo...ent/OurHistory

Bath chartered a variety of prop and later jet aircraft until eventually starting PALMAIR the airline with the 146 in the nineties...

Yeah good luck to FR for their services from BOH. They are giving away 500 seats on the new services tomorrow in Bournemouth town centre between 12 and 2 p.m.

Re Palmair, We've still got a suit case in our loft from holidays during the 1970's that has a Palmair sticker on it. Although Palmair didn't have any aircraft painted in its colour scheme until the early 90's they traded as Palmair from Bournemouth since 1958.
