Bund
Why are they putting a bund round the fence? Is it to try and cut down on the accidents caused by rubber-neckers driving by, annoy the spotters, cut down on noise etc?
Assuming it's not going to be built 10 foot high, comes across a bit of a waste of effort to me and certainly amazing that this is whats holding up the building works, someone feel free to enlighten me......

Yes I believe this is a two fold operation, it’s a cheap way of disposing of the surplus soil, a fare few tones and lorry loads, at the same time creating a safety bund to stop rubber neckers as you call them. There has been a high percentage of major accidents along that stretch of road over the years, makes a lot of sense, which is unusual for the airport.
It will be interesting to see how they are going to stabilise the loose soil before the grass grows and prevent it from blowing back onto the near by taxiway.

It's nice to drive past the airport and have a great view of the aircraft, BUT there have been countless very serious accidents along this road over the years so it really is about time.
The last one I recall was about 3-4 weeks, another head-on collision which I believe resulted in another fatality and traffic chaos whilst the road was closed. Whether the 'view' was a contributing factor I don't know as the road does carry a 60mph limit on it which does seem high to me.
Having said the above, I would have thought it far more important in todays climate to actually build a proper secure fence all around the perimeter rather than the 4ft 'mickey-mouse' one currently in situ.
Maybe security is part of the bund plan ?

Just been pondering how much soil it would take to create a bund even 1 foot high round the perimiter fence, even if it was just along side the road.
That's one big deep hole they are planning to dig......
Any news on when/if FR might announce routes for the second plane to be based in BOH? Nothing certain yet that I can find (indeed with fuel prices as they are the second plane is no certainty anyway), the only new route announced thus far is BOH-EDI and that route is being serviced by a EDI based plane.

If you want to see the level of security fencing the airport has in mind for the complete airfield take a look at what’s been put up between Airtime West and the Pilatus hangar and from there to the Jet Centre. Not very nice, but much needed I’m afraid in today’s security conscious times.

Yankee - when is that going to happen? long overdue i think
March was a good month load factor wise. keep it up Bournemouth! i'm surprised easyJet don't continue GVA through the summer. It must be to do with aircraft availability.

As with most things at Bournemouth, when money allows, you know who holds the purse strings. Unlike car parks there's no money to be made out of putting up fences so will probably only get done under pressure from outside bodies.

The aerodrome licience will be the contributing factor to if/when the perimeter needs upgrading.
If it wasn't deemed sufficient the airport would not be able to operate, however it could have been instructed to make the perimeter more secure and given a time in which to complete the works.

A bund is a posh word for an embankment, or in this case, a big long heap of dirt taken from the footings of the new airside facilities and dumped round the outside fence....

A bund is the place were the Oil / fuel tanks are placed. It is basically a sealed floor area that is fully enclosed by a low wall. So in the event that an oil tank leaks the spillage is contained by the bund and can be cleaned up without any risk of it running off / soaking into the ground / water course.

The High Court have shot down the legal action by the New Forset National Park Autority to thwart the Airports developement plans. In a damning verdict issued by the judge the NPA's case was dismissed and rebuked for delaying its callenge to the last moment. Lets hope things go forward from here.

LPA still not showing in the tFly booking engine past April 2008 from BOH at the moment, anyone any idea when this is going in, have a few block bookings to make for next winter
Could someone help me with what routes SpanAir flew from BOH last year (possibly using the JKK code if I recall as a charter?) and if they are being used again at BOH this year.
Thanks
