thanks airhumberside

rumours of easyJet setting up maintenance HQ at BOH? in the old BASCO hangar? The would be great for the region.

Ryanair will get maintenance done in Poland - they'd never take it up, would they?!

I wonder if there will be another U2/FR flight for a base! Think U2 will win out on this to be honest.

Think the museum is going to be moved to the other side. The airport is a right mess to be honest. knocking this and that down, all the workmen have done is install speed bumps at 3 inch intervals! And erect flags around the place making it look like a fort!! Oh and demolish some WW2 history!
A good flight school is also getting the push to the other side I believe. The only saving grace for them is that they are the GA handling agents too.
The place used to be lovely.

Great so everything gets pushed to the North side which falls outside the Southern Airport Master Plan, which is effectively the Airport, and into the industrial Northern Airport Master Plan http://www.bournemouthairport.com/do...1178882072.pdf Fig 2.2 which comes under the MAGS estate division.
I do not see anywhere in the master plan that indicates on the maps http://www.bournemouthairport.com/do...1178882072.pdf Fig 5.3 that the museum site would be utilised for car parking which I think is the plan. To the contrary it highlights this area as "Existing car parking and operational facilities to be retained and developed; non aviation related businesses to be rationalised, " nothing about aviation related businesses being rationalised.
With the northern area falling within the Industrial development sector, which according to the plans isolates many aviation businesses and parking areas from Airside access, I see interesting and worrying times ahead, for GA in particular, at Bournemouth. Even European Aviation seems isolated on their plan.

You must look at what is Bournemouth's CORE business. It used to be the case that the airport was a centre for GA; but this isn't compatible with developing a commercial passenger aviation business - which is now it's core business, even more so within the next 5 to 10 years.

Planning for the expansion of commercial passenger business will need to take precedent over less high yielding (but nevertheless important) business in terms of GA, museum & non-aviation related business.

I think you are mistaken in assuming that BAM is an 'aviation related business'.

Filzmoos - I'm sure that a there will be a lot of chartered traffic for incoming teams of athletes. It just depends on where most of them set up training camps.

try thinking along the lines of ''we've underbudgeted for new terminal, how can we trim costs, let's delay construction of south west area car parks, but where to put extra cars? ah ha museum area could fit a lot in.. dear museum, please move out''

"I think you are mistaken in assuming that BAM is an 'aviation related business'."

Sorry but a museum which houses airworthy aircraft and is located within the same accommodation which is also used by De Haviland Aircraft with their Vixen as well as World Aviation GA Maintenance and Parking I surly do rate as aviation related businesses.
I had no doubt that in due course this area would be used for airport expansion, maybe GA executive handling, but to loose it to a car park and at such short notice does seem like tribekey has a possible reason

The GA is unquestionably aviation related. However there's a lot of GA businesses in the North-East and North-West sectors already so I can't see that it's a huge issue for them to be located there.

IMO either the museum is a charity (in which case it isn't a business at all) or its business is collecting cash from museum visitors. Which isn't aviation related.

I would guess it must have paid a hefty rent for its premises - presumably the airport have a compelling business reason to forgo that.

re: Small Hangar / BAM

Bournemouth Aviation Museum isn't going to that 'small hangar next to Bournemouth Flying Club' as far as I am aware! It is already occupied.

I think you will find that hangar is the home to a citation.
There is a large hangar just north of european aviation which appears empty but has recently been fenced off.
I understand that the basco hangar may become home to the 747sp.

On the basis of the airport contractors cutting the telephones lines and hitting the water mains last week, when are they going to knock out the electricity or fracture a gas pipe. Maybe we should run a sweepstake!

Thomson have added Rhodes and Dalaman to there network from Bournemouth for next summer and have also put the service to Tenerife in - house all to be operated by Thomsonfly based aircraft . Verona has been dropped although there are still flights to Verona operated by European and Brescia by Palmair and European throughout next summer .
With these new routes there is very little slack left now to bring back in Pisa Prague and Valencia which are city routes that Thomsonfly seem to be dropping like Amsterdam and Paris in favour of more "bucket and spade " again .
Lets hope Easyjet pick up on these routes from Bournemouth !
Good to see a Monarch A300 off to New York today full of shoppers , an extra flight next winter by Zoom is also on the cards to JFK
