Also in the early summer months the airport policy was always to let the grass grow between the runways for harvesting in August, its this long grass that birds apparently like, and which also causes problems in the Spring/Summer but not the autumn/winter when the grass is short.
The tress will be kept short due to the proximity of the radar. So the trees will be routinely clipped thus disturbing any potential residents!

Well if they're planning to operate it they'd better get it on sale pretty fast or bookings will be lost to other operators. i also heard that they wanted to do Turin, but now Ryanair are doing it they backed away.
Does anyone have any news on when Ryanair will announce their 2nd and 3rd a/c at BOH? It's supposed to be for March/April 09, so should be announced soonish??

Not heard anything re another FR plane being based at BOH for a while, but as an uniformed guess, the work to increase the apron from 4 stands to 6 is progressing pretty quickly so you would assume someone somewhere is expecting more planes to be based fairly soon as the 08/09 winter program only needs 4 concurrent stands max.
With regards to the new banking along the main road, nice to see it channeled all the rain from the weekend directly onto the road creating several dodgy puddles, especially at the height of the storm in the early hours of Sunday morning....

Economic downturn ‘is good’ for Ryanair
LOW fares airline Ryanair has said it expects a downturn in the economy to be good for its business - and has announced 25,000 free seats for travel from this month until December from Bournemouth Airport.
The free flights are part of a one million free seats' scheme nationally, and are available until midnight tonight through the company's website, with no additional taxes and charges.
Ryanair believes that in a tougher economic climate, customers will trade down to them from other more expensive carriers.
Director of personnel and in-flight Eddie Wilson said the company was financially secure, and was the market leader for the lowest fares in Europe, was number one for coverage, had the fewest cancellations and the lowest number of lost bags.
"As Wizz Air pull out of Bournemouth completely and Easyjet reduce their network, Ryanair's commitment at Bournemouth is stronger than ever," he told a press conference.
"Not only will our Wroclaw route continue, our Paris Beauvais and Milan Bergamo routes will commence at the end of October, and our new ski route to Turin will commence at the end of December.
"Ryanair is committed to delivering the lowest fares guaranteed and no fuel surcharges ever on all its routes."
Mr Wilson said the company would do "whatever it takes" to stimulate passenger numbers.
It also aims to double aircraft numbers over the next five years.
The news was announced at a time when the company has told 400 pilots and cabin crew to take one week of unpaid leave this year as they cut back flights from Stansted and Dublin.
Chief executive Michael O'Leary also announced the airline's executives would have a pay cut of at least 10 percent, and 15 aircraft will be parked at Stansted and five at Dublin this winter.
The company is looking to create a new carrier to offer discount transatlantic flights as low as £10 from the UK to America.
Spokesman Stephen McNamara said it was currently reviewing all UK operations' bases.

Ryanair summer 2009 now loaded for the existing routes.
Changes are:
Marseille now friday and monday mornings
Alicante now 4x weekly (mon,wed,fri,sun)
Paris & Milan operate through the summer using BOH 737
At the moment Prestwick is once daily but either operated by BOH or PIK 737 at the current times, BOH 737 mon, wed, fri, sun mornings & PIK 737 tue, thu, sat evenings.
All flights currently operated by a non based 737 remain operated this way.
At first glance looks as though they would need a second plane to operate this timetable.

yes, agreed. definately need a second plane to operate this schedule. On saturday's (for example) they have two BOH originating departures in close proximity - 09:55 to Palma and 10:00 to Milan.
Rumours of links to the following destinations once second plane is based: Belfast, Tenerife, Valencia, Faro, Berlin and Madrid (returning).

Not sure if they are.... i think there is a problem with the Mail runs though at night time as the runway is being re surfaced and Cat 3 ILS is also being installed at the same time which has meant the Mail run is going to have to find another airport to operate from while this is happening .
Southampton was asked but they have a strict night time jet ban so not sure what is happening
Also with the amount of Barbados and Acapulco early am arrivals in the winter with Thomsonfly and Monarch not sure if the runway will be open at 0445 when they arrive ?
Has anyone any news or photos yet of how the terminal and apron extension is going ?

Bournemouth handled 103 , 592 passengers in Sept down nearly 12 % on last year but considering no Amsterdam , Prague , Padderborn , Shannon and Madrid this is a really good figure for the airport
Top 5
Palma 12146
Prestwick 12160
Malaga 11860
Gerona 10063
Dublin 8690
" Palmair " have launched there summer 2009 programme with there trusty 737 classic and Monastir has been added as a summer route along with an increase in flights to Naples and Lanzarote , however Alicante is being dropped after nearly 20 years of operating with the company !
" Olympic " are continuing with Corfu , Zante , Heraklion and Larnaca and a new company to Bournemouth " Holidays 4 U " are operating a series of flights to Dalaman operated by Onur Air
All good news for Bournemouth and with the terminal improvements underway now should be a good experience for all finally

Terminal Changes
Lots of progress now.
The Apron and taxiways are now being extended with surface earth being used for the perimeter mound.
The small short stay car park is now closed and Lots of portacabins have arrived and are being placed in this section. Picking up and dropping off is now undertaken in the longstay car parks.
There has been a large L shape gaggle of portacabins place outside the departure lounge/conservatory which I would assume is a temporary boarding lounge.
also off site news.
The Bournemouth Aviation Museum has opened in the Alice in Wonderland familiy park adjacent to the Airport. Website [url="http://www.aviation-museum.co.uk"]
