Well it will never develop because people never give it the chance to develop.

The routes that exist currently are boring. There are not enough flights, they should about 10 flight a day at least then they can start talking.

Its really just this unadventurous attitude in Northern Irish people.

Let's keep it all in perspective.

City of Derry has dropped 3%
Belfast International has dropped 7%
Belfast City has grown 13%

The passenger figures for 2013 will be about 385K against 398K in 2012.

The City of Culture was never going to increase passenger numbers since the number of flights were down and the number of destinations the same (Glasgow, Liverpool, London and Birmingham).

Exact Amelia. The routes are never going to be much other than major UK and sunshine. Coda is a great little airport that really opens the north west up, shame in one way its so FR reliant but without them it probably wouldn't exist.

LDY

I think FR presence might not be helping at all, sure for sun routes and some others to continental airports they FR are best option, but large planes are not great for those few routes that need frequency ,

LDY GLA ideally is two or 3 times a day but with EIR or some other
Smaller equipment operator, even EDI MAN BRS SEN ?

But no one can afford to go in to CODA to build up a route in these lean times
With FR there, deep pockets and willing to do PIK a few times a week
To keep a plane busy rather than actually develop a route,

LDY suffers from only one airline but it's better than none ,

I wouldn't worry. PMI & ACE both bookable for S14 with departures Tues & Thu respectively.

I've noticed the same problem when searching from my local, ABZ, another non base airport for BY. The timetable seems to be a nightmare for spitting out error messages in my experience.

It's all relative, but FR's 189 seat configuration makes it one of the largest, if not the largest, jet used on regular domestic routes from NI. Slightly more difficult to fill than a 78 seat Dash, no?

As for the airport. Wonderful asset for the NW, but has been said on here, and Ive been saying for years, when it comes to FR and LDY a sentences containing the following, barrel over a, spring to mind.

An article from the Chamber of Commerce about the airport.

Derry Chamber of Commerce | Londonderry Chamber of Commerce

I can't seem to find anything concrete about councillor Joe Millers' proposal for a route development scheme.

I've posted this on Ryanair board but relevant to here as well as it's a family who wanted to fly from Derry but instead have decided to go via Belfast with Easyjet.

Story in Irish News (and mentioned on Radio Foyle this morning) about a family who wanted to fly from City of Derry and they had 3 children needing oxygen bottles to breath for medical reasons. Ryanair do not allow passenger oxygen bottles on board and instead wanted £200 extra to provide bottles to the family.

Ryanair cited 'health and safety' reasons.

The family instead cancelled and are flying from Belfast with Easyjet who have no issues with passengers bringing medical oxygen bottles on board.

The headlines in the paper and on radio is 'Ryanair charging for passengers to breath' etc

Another dubious charge/practice that Ryanair will need to address imo.

Falcon have cancelled the Lanzarote flights.

Majorca remains unaffected.

The carriage of personal portable oxygen cylinders in the cabin by passengers comes under dangerous good regulations, which is why I believe that airline concerned could want to use it's own bottles which are already approved.

City of Derry had 384973 passengers in 2013 slipping one place behind Norwich with 463029 passengers to the 30th busiest UK airport.

City of Derry was down 3.3%, Norwich was up 16.7%.

Hi
Judging by the caa figures for January and February 2014 numbers could even be lower this year.

Hopefully it's due to the schedule not being loaded yet but just tried booking from Derry to Stansted return 7th Nov - 9th Nov 2014 and it says there are no flights available at all for that week.

The airport have hired a former exec from FlyBe to take charge of route development.

Hopefully there will be good news in the not too distant future.
