The plan forecast 480,000 passengers for 2015 as a low estimate with 510,000 a good guess and hoped for 550,000.
Back to the drawing board? I'm not knocking the airport, just the unrealistic plan.

Ryanair Derry-Prestwick to be axed?
Ryanair announcement raises Prestwick Airport fear - The Scotsman
and replaced by Derry-Glasgow (hopefully)
And maybe even an Edinburgh flight? OK, probably not .....
(but there are simultaneous press conferences at both airports.)

Will LDY to GLA attract many more pax? The PIK route has had low LF along with BHX.
I cannot see EDI having much better LF, EIR pulled the plug after only ten pax booked. Difficult to fill a 180 seater!!
However you never know with FR

I think gla could grow numbers but not significantly . Aer Arann saw numbers grow on CFN to Scotland when they switched the flights to GLA from PIK.
However. Addition of EDI could further impact Glasgow LDY numbers. LDY is a great gap filler in the schedule and in terms of ac utilisation it is useful to fill the schedule as PIK hasn't many short flights to use for filling the schedule alongside 2 European flights per day. Splitting the daily Glasgow flight to LDY between Glasgow and edi could prove efficient ...

Can't be sure but would say the FR focus on Scottish announcements will be exclusively to do with STN. If you've got 80 PC of activity at a major south east gateway why not push for 90, 100??
A GLA kick off on STN is also in line with recent FR moves - developing more main airports, Athens, Lisbon, BCN instead of girona, Brussels at the expense of Charleroi, Main Rome airport. Logic says GLA over PIK, STO over Skasta, Belfast over Derry??.....time will reveal.

Belfast over Derry??? Will it be BFS or BHD?
This is probably something and nothing. If they're closing PIK (how likely is that?), then they'd probably move the PIK-LDY route which, despite low LFs (hardly surprising on the pick'n'mix timetable), has been maintained by one of the most ruthless airlines in the world!
My personal preference would be for FR to sod off the route completely, along with BHX, and let BE do it 1xdaily. To drag up the RE debacle again, a subject which has been done to death on this forum, is just pointless. I know for a FACT that the claim at the time that there were only 10 reservations on the BHX route was complete bolleaux.
Anyway. There was an RAF Voyager A330-200 at Aldergrove earlier when I had the "pleasure" of transiting through. I'm surprised you didn't "notice" that GAZMO
Whatever happens, good to see BHD/BFS grow again. Hopefully when FR sort out their fleet shortages, LDY will follow suit. I was pleased to see the 2xdaily STN reinstated for Fridays and Sundays in the winter timetable when booking for November.

I agree with your comments that most of the thread is speculation. I wish LDY well. I agree that BEE with their smaller aircraft would be ideal for certain routes from LDY.
Would be nice to see all NI airports grow, but until APD is addressed I think the exodus to DUB will continue, even from Derry!

Just for the record ... While speculation about LDY-PIK changing to LDY-GLA is fair enough I don't for a moment think there is any realistic possibility that Ryanair will announce EDI-LDY this morning.

It'll put 5 minutes onto the flight time.
Glasgow Airport to city centre is 25 minutes by bus so long as there is no traffic problems.
Prestwick Airport to city centre is 45 minutes by train.

Any reason for the inbound Prestwick flight being diverted to Aldergrove this afternoon?
It sat in a holding pattern south of Derry for a while before going to Aldergrove.
Was p#ssing down at the time but I work 5 mins from airport on the flight path and couldn't hear any thunder.

Sure looks that way.
It used to be possible to go on holidays to Lanzarote, Salou and Majorca.
Following Falcon's departure, if confirmed, the only operator at the airport will be Ryanair and the only summer destinations will be Faro and Alicante (once 7 months of the year now only 2).
Unfortunately Ryanair seem to have lost interest in the airport in part no doubt due to air passenger duty differential with other airports in Ireland and have even pulled a summer route to Tenerife rather than expand from the airport.
Whatever about new management and talk of route development, the future looks grim from here.
