B-52 Divert…..2x B-52’s from Minot had to divert into Fairford this morning due to being refused entry into French airspace! “Bush 11 flt” had routed across the Atlantic, apparently en route to Ostrava. On approaching French airspace, onward routing was not permitted due to “flight plan issues”. Apparently on speaking with both Swanwick and their Ops back in the US, they could not get onward clearance! A divert to Mildenhall was initially sought, but in the end Fairford was chosen. Both aircraft had to hold for 3-4 hours off the southwest of England, in order to burn off fuel to meet landing weight…This due to the fact that they would need to land at Fairford without drogue chutes as no B-52 ground crews currently are at Fairford

BUSH 11 arrived at 11.13…..60-0007
BUSH 12 arrived at 12.05….60-0026

No info available on departures

For a brief while a decade or two back there was a leased AN-28 at WOTG to be used for meat bombing there - it crashed on take off almost as soon as it arrived due to some tech problem, dunno if there was a like for like replacement or if they opted for a different type!

Re the Buffs, didn't see 'em on ADSB but did note a KC-10 sneaking in to Fairford, working with them? French ATC, eh?

Long ago there were several USA-based fleets of civilian Hercules freighters, from new. Even Delta Airlines had some. They were used on various scheduled and ad-hoc freight flights, and were particularly common from Anchorage to outback Alaska oil and mineral exploration sites, but were expensive to operate and the market died away. In Europe at least the role has been taken by the Antonov-12, (comparatively) cheaper to charter. Engine replacements for jets stuck AOG is a continuing small, rapid response demand for such service.
I don't remember seeing a Delta herc, but certainly sawplenty of other USA based L-100's :- Transamerican/Trans International, Saturn, Southern Air Transport, possibly Flying Tigers (?) at LHR and in Europe back in the 70's-80's period.

Delta had a few Hercs prior to my interest growing. I do recall TIA and Southern Hercs at Gatwick/Heathrow, also Alaska International and Pacific Western had them, think I saw several PW Hercs at Gatters.

Hi….The B-52’s didn’t show on any tracking sites i believe. The KC-10, (RCH099), routed into Mildenhall after accompanying 4x Danish F-35A’s from Lajes which were on delivery.

First RB211 to be delivered to Burbank collected from Hucknall by a Saturn Hercules, except the carefully constructed crate's too big to fit into the aircraft? Puzzled looks all round as in true RR fashion every things been measured and measured again so what's going on?
Crate size calls for Herc series 200 Saturn had sent a series 100 oh hum......At this point I went home !

I'm guessing that you mean they sent an L-100-20 instead of the -30 that was subsequently used.

A Belgian Air Force A400, at altitude over London, returning home south-eastwards from somewhere. I really do wonder when the military last had such a noisy aircraft you can hear coming from goodness knows how many miles away, and get ready for. Can it have been in the original spec - 'enemy must be able to hear you coming at cruising height, from inside their accommodation, when you are still 10 miles away' ?
That was a Cavok An12 doing a sudden ship out from Birmingham of the replacement engine for a BRAND NEW Jet2 A321 stuck with a completely failed engine in Turkey. Notable how the Old Girls (50 years old ?) are still needed to support the brand new ones
Re Belgian A400……It routed Brussels-Casement-Brussels. Routed over London, westbound towards Strumble, then onward…..returned south over Liverpool/Birmingham before turning over south of London for home….

For reasons unknown, I find the Belgian A400's louder/more powerful than the RAF frames. Perhaps it's just my ears....

A suitable treat for Casement, so to speak ...

Their schedules were just within the USA. However they also did military charters, which could have been anywhere. There was a longstanding US military "support" programme, someone will know the name, which paid a substantial amount for having military-capable aircraft in the fleet. As this was criticised for being a subsidy, which is of course a word not allowed in the USA, there was a requirement to actually do a proportion of military work, which is why all sorts of US domestic carriers turned up at USA military bases, and around the world - the latter provided they had all the fitout for trans-ocean navigation and liferafts etc, which much of the US domestic fleet did not . The cargo Herc seemed to have ticked a lot of boxes for Delta's participation in this.

Missed the earlier WHBM post about A400s and AN-12s!

Just had an RAF A400 whisper over for once - mind you, descending into Brum by the looks of it so throttled back I guess, just disturbed tea-time Coventry level at 9000'

Buff 60-0004 (no callsign), now out of Sigonella, currently flying racetrack patterns over the Romanian coast. Presumably flew around France or got French clearance.

(Or low level, pedal to the metal, turn-on the jammers).

Nice view of a Turkish AF C-130E as it droned over out of Prestwick. Roughly as old as me, delivered to Turks in November '64 according to Joe Baugher...

I heard it droning for a while, but there was alas no sight to be seen. I never thought the serial was akin to the US Military with fiscal years. What's the point of operating such an old frame, bearing in mind the the TAF has some pretty modern aircraft ?
