Never seen a B-2. Or an F-22 come to that...

One of the three original C-5s left flying, 69-0024, just flew past London, albeit modified to C-5M standard.

Amazingly it was below the cloud as well... some sort of altocumulus above 21000' I guess!

Watched an Osprey take off from Barton Aerodrome as I crossed Barton Bridge late this afternoon. Only second I have ever seen, still a weird looking aircraft.
Cheers

I was treated to the distinctive sound of a RR Merlin while I was in a teleconference yesterday afternoon. A quick glance at FR24 told me it was Spitfire TIX G-ILDA out of Church Fenton.

Walking dog this afternoon about 3pm in the hill tops around Frome a loud loud noise from the other side of a tall hedge caught my attention, monster tractor of low fying A400-no more C130s sadly. Seconds later an Atlas hurtles over head and banks quite hard to the right , a most spectacular sight and sound . FR 24 gave its altitude/height as 500 ft and the GPS on my phone gave my height at 105 m M 344 ft. Certainly low enough to see all the ports and outlets etc on the belly of the Airbus .
This is quite common here as planes returning to Brize from points further Sw obviously use the Mendip terrain for a bit of tactical flying practice but this was exceptionally low. Is there a minimum height above terrain or is it (understandable given these are military aircraft) just down to the captains judgment. I am certainly not complaining as it exhilerating to see big aircraft flying fast and low . The Hercs made rather less noise and I have read that some mil folk felt that was better for stealth type missions thn the A400 although it was clear from todays views that the A400 is a lot bigger and possibly faster.
Made a sunny day even nicer and no doubt the crew enjoyed the lovely coutryside between over From before follwoing the railway and power lines NW back home. to Brize

The A400M may even have been lower than 500 feet - FR24 reports pressure altitude (i.e. before adjustment for QNH). Or higher, for the same reason.
Bristol QNH around that time was 1019, which would mean FR24 was under-reporting heights by roughly 150'.

Sitting in (a sunny, for a change) Solihull, something fairly load and not-airliner type noise just passed nearby. ADSB gives no clues other than a Learjet 45 which passed overhead at ~10000ft having done a ~220 degree right turn after takeoff from BHX R33. What piqued my interest was the noise it sounded more like a fighter jet, and hung around for a long time (i could still hear it whilst said Learjet was over Wellsbourne, 20-odd miles away) - in contrast to watching airliners take off when the noise returns to background within a minute or so of passing overhead.
Toggling the military filter on reveals nothing anywhere near.
Any clues?

250 feet looks about right for most of the low level runs we see around here- I know its very hard to judge and I was right underneath this one, Also I was on top of an upslope from the low lying area south and west of Frome and it drops away again just to north east of Frome where there is nice railway and power line to follow.
So thanks for replies , I would hazard a guess he was probably a little between the two figures and as I said very spectacular at that height and speed. and its a big-certainly wide-bodied - plane presumably so it can take a modern tank where a herc could not?

I recall Lear 25 G-BBEE lifting off from 28L at Heathrow, staying low while cleaning up and then going vertical - or so it appeared from the spectators' balcony - probably just past the T3 piers. Must have been about 1978.
a bit of a long shot question... my son reports seeing an old helicopter, yellow, like the former RAF air-sea rescue ones, flying quite low, so he got a good look at it, over Crewkerne, Somerset, heading East, around 13.00 on Tuesday 22 August. Any ideas what it could have been? He says it wasn't one of the Western Power Distribution EC-135s

They have quite a fleet it appears, several more Sea Kings including a pair of ex-Belgian Air Component examples, an ex-RN Wessex, a Lynx and a Widgeon...
