Their schedules were just within the USA. However they also did military charters, which could have been anywhere. There was a longstanding US military "support" programme, someone will know the name, which paid a substantial amount for having military-capable aircraft in the fleet. As this was criticised for being a subsidy, which is of course a word not allowed in the USA, there was a requirement to actually do a proportion of military work, which is why all sorts of US domestic carriers turned up at USA military bases, and around the world - the latter provided they had all the fitout for trans-ocean navigation and liferafts etc, which much of the US domestic fleet did not . The cargo Herc seemed to have ticked a lot of boxes for Delta's participation in this.
