The November event was very strange - that A380 was certainly sending duff data, and it knew it was, judging from the value of the uncertainty parameter that accompanies the ADS-B data.

Uzbekistan 787 currently on approach into Staines, the gap on the approach to 09L at Heathrow shows where he probably is in reality!

Well that was unexpected... over the indistinct calls of robins and tits, and the eldritch screech of ruddy parakeets on this gloomy January day, I could discern a distant blattering - hah, tis a Gipsy dragging a Chippie round the Biggin circuit!

ZK437 is currently pootling around NE of Nellis, one of the six Typhoons that arrived for Red Flag 24-1 earlier in the week https://www.dvidshub.net/image/81968...-24-1-arrivals ;RAAF F-35As will also be participating.

On the subject of ADSB etc oddities about this time last year I was tracking the boss flying the DUR-JNB leg of her journey home (DUR-LHR) when climbing over the Natal Midlands the B733 she was onboard was suddenly being reported as a helo doing several hundred knots and remained as such for the rest of the flight. Also seen aircraft jump over the map I particularly remember an EC-135 which ADSBX could decide if it was approaching WTN or FAB.

Some of Vlad's new pals from Niger flying over Minsk in the direction of Moscow in 5U-GRN Govt of Niger B737-700. Flew less than 50nm along Ukraine border before crossing into Belorussia north of Brest.

I wonder if it was assisting in the Red Sea operations?

Speaking of Aussie aircraft, I've noticed over the last year the odd VH-8xx regd aircraft in Europe etc and the trackers seem to refer to them as 'military'. Is this a fact, or some anomaly in ADSB-land ? Most are biz-jet or prop aircraft, rather than larger aircraft.

2nd point, a 747-800 of the Chinese Govt (Air China) landed yesterday in Dublin and has been feted as the largest aircraft ever to land there! I thought that they might have had a visit from an AN-124/225 or C-5M over the years, but apparently not. Perhaps just SNN due to it's position.

The Australians have run out, not surprisingly, of 3-letter registrations, despite some fairly constant reuse over time. The new Qantas fleet of Airbus A220s go up from VH-X4A, and they seem to have started using number digits in all the positions, somewhat at random. I've expected over time the Canadians to run out as well.

The system has been in use for just over a year now. Here's the CASA announcement:

Aircraft registration marks in Australia are changing to include a new alphanumeric system. The first release of 1500 new marks will be available from Friday 23 September 2022. Initially, the new marks will only start with an X or 8, for example VH-8AB, VHX9B, VH-X22. Marks will not contain the numbers "0" or "1" to avoid conflict with these numbers and letters. They also must contain a mix of alphanumeric characters - they cannot contain only numbers. The full complement of marks will be made available when our digital systems are more developed and able to manage large numbers of alphanumeric marks.

That makes sense, but is the VH-8XX for everything or just certain types/class of aircraft ? Perhaps the ones I've seen just happened to be civ/mil hybrids.

I've expected over time the Canadians to run out as well.
I remember when they went from CF-XXX to C-FXXX and then C-GXXX some years back due to running out of possible regs. Funny that that is sort of running out now.

(I didn't have time to post this yesterday)

Flight times would suggest otherwise - routed back Ramstein, Dubai, Darwin (on ground there now)

More likely supplies / personnel to support A30-002 the E-7A which left Ramstein c.2300 16 Jan presumably to monitor Ukrainian airspace (returned 0145 17 Jan)

Spitfire up from Biggin this morning, first I've noticed so far this year. Sadly I was in my house and not anywhere I could listen to that lovely engine!

Not an aircraft but an extremely large shooting star travelling North to South around 18.00 in West Yorkshire. It looked like a large Firework rocket but plunging high to low with a Green burst of colour at the end, but apparently quite low, but that can be deceiving I am aware. Anybody else see it as easily the largest I have seen ? For reference heading West to Manchester airport over Sadleworth Moor.

Cheers

Just seen a small dot passing NW overhead Biggin which apparently is a Cobham Aviation 146 VH-NJE. Certainly looked like a 146.

Edit: went into Cranfield.

Really pleased someone else witnessed it. I have seen a lot over the years but that was definitely the largest I have seen and a very colourful ending.
Cheers

Out walking the dog a just after midday today and a single engine jet flew over heading west. It had straight short wings with large fuel tanks at the tips. Imagined it might have been an L 39. Anyone pick that up on their computer?
