Congratulations to the newly resigned Pilots!!!...hoooray!!!
Tp,
Any idea how much they give on the CAMINO 747 set-up? heard its a CLARK-Riyadh/Jeddah. This must be where that 747 FO is going.
I wonder if Asiana is still needing 747 Capts?

Well if it's any indication as to where Trans Global is (a Camino Operation), I wouldn't pin too much hope of this 747 Ops going too far. Trans Global is doing Ad Hoc Charters...and the charters do not come often (some even get cancelled last minute).

Well, i supposed as long as it gives employment, then its fine. ... they surely have no need for flying times and dont care if it doesn't fly, as long as they get the big bucks.

If PAL, with their 747-400's/A330's/340's..couldn't compete with Emirates, Etihad, Gulf-Air, Saudia, Kuwaiti, and Qatar on the middle-east routes and had to PULL-OUT... the chances for success of this Airline ..with a Clark-basing to boot, is zilch.
Sounds like a rich investor with no aviation background read a hyped-up business plan, and bit the "hook".

PAL was doing very well on the middle east route. It was a political decision to pull out,not economical.

The Saudi government requires all OFWs to fly with their carrier! So instead of GMA making an issue of it... she just accepted it and allowed PAL to give up a very profitable route.
Look up Freedoms of the Air... it are the basic rules that govern international aviation laws.
eg.
The right to overfly a country without landing.
the 3rd law states:
The right to carry passengers or cargo from one's own country to another.
4th law:
The right to carry passengers or cargo from another country to one's own.
Third and fourth freedom rights are almost always granted simultaneously in bilateral agreements between countries.
In GMA's infinate wisdom... she must have seen the advantage to the OFW taking a foreign carrier over a Filipino one. OIL maybe?
Is that political enough?

getting started
Hi! I was wondering if anyone can update me on that bill in congress proposing a ban on the foreign deployment of Filipino pilots? How has it been? Has it already been passed into law, etc? Pls. forgive me since I have not been very attentive to this course of events.
Also, a little about myself, I am a college graduate with a bachelor's degree in the Humanities but I have taken an interest in the possibilities of a career in aviation. If someone can give me an idea as to the possibilities of applying to a good aviation school in the Philippines or direct me to a related thread on this website that discusses particularly that, I would really be grateful!
Thank you!

Thank you klintph! Can you tell me more about the program there? What is the age limit for applicants? What are the opportunities for pilots if they decide to leave the service for the commercial circuit? If my memory serves me right of a webpage I found long ago, it is said that entering trainees there sign a bond requiring a minimum of 8 years of service in the Air Force. Is that true? I would really appreciate more information like what to expect. But still, thank you for the recommendation!

nonpro,
PAFFS doesn't actually have a cadet program anymore. The school only trains commissioned officers in the PAF, so you have to get in as a graduate of PMA (4 years leading to a degree) or OCS ( 1 year of basic and advanced military schooling) to get a slot. These slots are very limited ( 30+ students per class ) and training batches are few and far between due to lack of aircraft ( Hueys, Defenders, Bronco's, Hercs ). Age limit is 26 years and you have to be at least a 2nd Lt in rank. The 8 year service minimum is for PMA grads while OCS/ROTC grads have less years to fulfill. The flying is exciting, combat and transport flights will challenge the limits of your flying skills. As you might have heard, a lot of them leaving for the airlines, for good reason. Military pay sucks! One can hardly support a family with such meager income. Other options you can look into if you wish to self finance your training is the PAL Av School and Omni aviation in Clark. Training costs vary so try calling them to get a better idea.

PAF pilots
Since this is a rumour network, I've heard PAL is not currently hiring ex-PAF pilots .... can anyone confirm or deny and why ?
Especially current serving ones ..... otherwise MP's would be waiting outside.
