I have zero military experience but would be interested as to why the Ukrainians wouldn't damage/destroy the bridges to slow down the Crimea northbound advance in order to buy some time? I understand the Russians might have the fording ability even if the bridge crossings were blocked.

Thank you.

They need to go further worldwide, ban all Russian passport holders from travel outside the Country, cancel all Russian Visa's.

China rejected calling Russia's moves on Ukraine an ‘invasion’ and urged all sides to exercise restraint, even as it advised its citizens there to stay home or at least take the precaution of displaying a Chinese flag if they needed to drive anywhere
I hope the average Ukrainian is taking the hint.

In view of current events should MOD now be reviewing its planning assumptions that assume there will not be a high intensity war and reverse some of the more contentious decisions such as running down the Herc force and reducing the size of the army?

There were photos earlier of some pretty poorly equipped and demoralized POWs

The ongoing action at Hostomel does give an insight into clunky Russian tactical nous. Daylight insertion, apparently unsupported, air support pretty much absent etc.

Another thought - where's the triple A? It would have been a turkey shoot if the defenders had access to it.

Also, some early Ukrainian successes will give them cause for hope, that they can bog the advances down. Question is, how then will Vlad respond?

Final thought - those Russian PoWs look like hairy assed teenagers. I'm guessing conscripts.

They really need to burst his bubble, he is obviously gambling on this

On the other hand, G7 leaders condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had “reintroduced war on the European continent.”

“We condemn President Putin for his consistent refusal to engage in a diplomatic process to discuss European security issues, despite our repeated offers,” a statement issued after a G7 meeting read.
At the same time, Putin assured that Russia would remain part of the world economy.
Given that it remains a part of it, we do not intend to harm a system of which we feel we are a part,” he said.

The Russian president also said that the Russian authorities are preparing for what is happening in terms of sanctions policy. At the same time, he urged the Russian business community to deal with the current situation with understanding and to work with the Russian government to support Russia’s economy.

If Putin sweeps across Ukraine without too many losses, he might just get a taste for conquest. Who would be next?

If he is hesitant I'd say Georgia.
If he gets really "tonto" he'll try the Suwalki gap.

Makes it easier in Washington and Whitehall for the names on the sanctions list.

They must have all had a sick feeling in their stomachs when ordered to attend…..

Emotionally tempting, surely? There was another famous Communist Georgian, was there not?

I think he is tonto but not THAT tonto.

Compared to NATO fighter aircraft Russia is dramatically inferior. His Air Force would be wiped out in a few days, once NATO got up on their feet.
He has about 250 (air- combat) Fighters that would be considered Gen4.5 (Su-30, Su35) and another 550 which you could count as Gen 4 (Mig29, Mig31, Su-27).
NATO (+Allies) has almost 900 GEN 5 (F-22, F35), about 1200 Gen 4.5 (Typhoon, Rafale, Gripen, Super Hornet) and close to 2000 Gen 4 (F-16, F-15, F-18C, Mirage 2000).
900: 3
1200:250
2000:550
Good luck!
