Is Ukraine about to have a war?
Kinda going off topic the conscription is an inherently unfair system if you for what ever reason you can avoid service ie medical, corruption and bribery, get a headstart in life over those who cant. Conscription should be achievement based ie you are required to have completed basic training and 1 specialist occupation ie advanced infrantry training, vehicle crewman, gun monkey and then you are available to be called up for exercised and skills maintainence for x amount of years after

Russia has attempted to flood out the Kherson attacks by hitting a dam and flooding out their troops.

Now here's a video to see.
- Putins cook is recruiting from prisons
- Prisoners have been used as mercenaries in Ukraine

Russia’s Potemkin Army…
Did a culture of institutionalised lying contribute to Russia's recent disaster east of Kharkiv, by giving its senior commanders a distorted and false picture of the true situation on the ground? A 🧵 reviewing the evidence.

In every organisation, the culture is set at the top - Putin lies to the people, the people lie back - Karma in action
""The lie," wrote Alexander Solzhenitsyn "has been incorporated into the state system as the vital link holding everything together, with billions of tiny fasteners, several dozen to each man." If people stopped lying, he asserted, communist rule would break down instantly."
“There is no [Soviet] man who has typed even one page . . . without lying. There is no [Soviet] man who has spoken from a rostrum . . . without lying. There is no [Soviet] man who has spoken into a microphone . . . without lying.”
Somehow appropriate the link between Potemkin, the Dnipro River and the present military farce instigated by Putin in Ukraine -
Origin[edit]
Grigory Potemkin was a minister and lover of the Russian Empress Catherine II.[2] After the 1783 Russian annexation of Crimea from the Ottoman Empire and liquidation of the Cossack Zaporozhian Sich (see New Russia), Potemkin became governor of the region. Crimea had been devastated by the war, and the Muslim Tatar inhabitants of Crimea were viewed as a potential fifth column of the Ottoman Empire. Potemkin's major tasks were to pacify and rebuild by bringing in Russian settlers. In 1787, as a new war was about to break out between Russia and the Ottoman Empire, Catherine II, with her court and several ambassadors, made an unprecedented six-month trip to New Russia. One purpose of this trip was to impress Russia's allies prior to the war. Another purpose was to familiarize herself, supposedly directly, with her new possessions.[3] To help accomplish this, Potemkin set up "mobile villages" on the banks of the Dnipro River.[4] As soon as the barge carrying the Empress and ambassadors arrived, Potemkin's men, dressed as peasants, would populate the village. Once the barge left, the village was disassembled, then rebuilt downstream overnight.[2]
Regarding the news from Crimea regarding men not being allowed to leave via the Kerch bridge, no mention of them opting to leave instead via the (current) land bridge? Also, are holidaymakers included in this - bit of a downer if you are there taking a well-earned vacation...
As for the prisoner mercenaries, there is a twisted logic to this - its a great way to clear out Russia's prisons and reduce the prisoner population. What are the odds on any of them surviving 6 months and, if so, the authorities honouring their pledge to grant them amnesty?

[MIL Aviation content] Heads Up
Reportedly a substantial number of VVS pilots who expect that they are on the receiving end of pending war crime indictments for launching missiles targeted at civilian areas. Word is they are looking at South America for health reasons.
Most airline pilots ex Russia were through the civil pilot training program. Those that turn up with shiny new Russian licenses may be running from criminal charges, civil licenses will be worth holding up to the light. The civil guys were generally pretty good, the military guys will be somewhat paranoid about having their licenses looked at closely or their passports.

I did find it ironic that the Ukrainian dam that was hit, people are calling that a war crime, I also wondered if 617 sqn were quietly changing their badges.
An interesting point. I'm sure carpet bombing a city today would be viewed as a war crime, though we honour the memory of Bomber Command. I guess views change, and what was acceptable 80 years ago is no longer acceptable today.

Though, since they’ve been breaching the terms of each and every part of the Geneva Conventions doesn’t really mean much…
