Then is it not safe to assume it is already on the way? It’s rapidly turning into their own Bastogne.

Bastogne was saved by allied logistics holding out, a reinforcement of the lines from reserves, even exhausted, with the turn of the weather permitting CAS [Aviation thingy] to interdict the exhausted supply lines of the Wehrmacht. It accelerated the collapse of the defence of Germany proper.

Russia is attempting to move an incompetent and ill led army down to plug an untenable position with patent compromised supply lines, while weakening their force in the fields in the NE, where the primary supply lines remain within Ukraines expanded artillery capability. Russia races to put dads army and rapists and alleged murderers into the field. Curiously, Russia seems to still avoid messing the hair styles of Muscovite's or St Pete's elite, preferring to send those unfortunate enough to be second class citizens in the workers paradise that Putin is revisiting. What could go wrong with this picture, where some 75% of Russia's might and finery has been thrown in the glorious field of combat in the west, having now lost effectiveness of more than half of that bunch, and leaving the playpen that the rest of the federation is under a much reduced yoke of the centralised control of the Kremlin. Time for the states to renegotiate the terms of their association now would think.

Von Paulus' fate may soon be replayed with some irony.

In Mikolaiv

This nuanced, long article in the current LRB is excellent. I'm a subscriber however I believe a number of articles are accessible FOC if you access via a VPN.

To translate, they’ve pulled their HQ back across the river to the east leaving their troops on the other side…

Governor: Russian army command leaves Kherson.

According to Mykolaiv Oblast Governor Vitaliy Kim, the Russian army command has been moving to the left bank of the Dnipro River.

I think you will find they were announced a while back but just are being delivered, hats off to them as they are a poor country and they are handing over their air defence capability to rely on other countries to defend them.

here you go

Totally and utterly agree ,
when you look at their airforce they only have 23 aircraft in total, so they have handed over their entire fleet which was modernised between 2014 and 2017, while awaiting F16’s

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovak_Air_Force

kudos to them.

Appears to work if you just refresh the page, no VPN required IME.

Well worth a read.

They do want financial compensation for them, which I do understand for a small country like slovenia. Something like 300 million for the planes and all parts

Which countries, if any, have committed to the air defense of Slovakia?

And Poland I believe, Global Nav, see the link below

https://mil.in.ua/en/news/slovakia-m...29s-in-august/

in the meantime, more views of the dam bridge damage and although the poster says it does not show much I think it speaks volumes as the main bridge support beam structure is no longer sitting on the pier, it’s gone.

Contrary to Russian [and other] beliefs, even the warmest of Ukraine's supporters in this Just War have little leverage in demanding negotiations.
Ukraine decided to fight alone, and Ukraine alone will decide when enough is enough.
The Ukrainians have every reason to fight to the bitter end.
God speed.

The terms of negotiation should be simple and direct: Russia may withdraw all Russian troops and personnel from Ukrainian territory, boundaries as they were prior to any annexations. Alternatively, enjoy their complete destruction. With either option, Russia is required to make full restitution for the Ukrainian lives, limbs, destruction and loss of material, and extradite to the World Court specified individuals charged with war crimes.

In return Ukraine will allow two equal languages, as in Canada with French and English.
