As is your right, Sir.
There are indeed similarities. Between the Guiuan and the place I have in mind. My belief is that your photo has been misidentified.
PM with evidence coming your way!

Mr G and I have exchanged PMs and I think I am right to say that he is content to let this run. To say that the internet evidence points in more than one direction would be fair.
My belief is that the source quoted by Mr G misidentifies this airfield.
This is a map of Guiuan from the same era as the photo.

I'm going to have to go with Puerto Princesa on Palawan.
Both historical photos I have seen and a good look at google earth convinced me. The major factor was that the runway at Puerto Princesa ends at the waterline. That of Guiuan, which I had originally listed as a strong possibility in my search, ends some distance inland with the village of Guiuan between it and the sea.
The seaward end orientation of the two are different as well with one heading to the west and the shore of Leyte Gulf, the other to the east into the Sulu Sea.
Lastly, there is only one runway in the contest picture.

Well done, Sir! You are indeed - in my opinion - correct. I also agree with your logic. Interesting that some sources seem to have misidentified it.
I chose this airfield because of its historical significance; we are after all on the Aviation History and Nostalgia thread!
I think most will agree that it is indeed Puerto Princessa.
May I also add that the island of Palawan is a great place for a holiday if you want to get away from it all. It is sometimes called 'The Last Frontier' locally and has some wonderful sights and great diving.
Ciao
Lars

Victims of the Japanese Massacre
Puerto Princesa, Palawan, P. I.
December 14, 1944
These U.S. prisoners of war of the Japanese were on the island of Palawan, P. I., as slave laborers building an airfield for the Japanese military. Believing that an invasion by the U.S. forces was imminent, the prisoners were forced into three tunnel air raid shelters, thus following orders from the Japanese High Command to dispose of prisoners by any means available. Buckets of gasoline were thrown inside the shelters followed by flaming torches. Those not instantly killed by the explosion ran burning from the tunnels and were machine gunned and bayoneted to death.

Cheers Lars. I can see the confusion until the location of the village is factored in. It is truely a shame that such a beautiful location is marred by such a horrific history.
On a side note, I'd not have wanted to live in Guiuan back then with assorted aircraft flown by 19-20 year olds hauling high explosive zooming 50 feet over my head and home daily.
This one shouldn't be as difficult to sleuth but is a nice historic shot I think.

Mmmm. S42. Possibly (probably?) China Clipper. Pan Am.
Hawaii. Honolulu. The Pan Am base there under construction? If not suspect one of the islands on the route.

Flying has moved to KBWI and Harbor Field has been replaced by Dundalk Marine Terminal, a busy port specializing in containers and automobiles.
I think the seaplane base in the quiz was where the white ship is docked at the left of this picture.
