Probably an area where there were "section roads", a one-mile grid. I think this means the US Great Plains and the Canadian Prairie Provinces. Beyond that, I have no idea.

Not Minnesota, but the larger "region" that the airport is located in does begin with "M".

Not "Winterpig" not Greenville.

This airport is located in the capitol city of the region that begins with "M".

Morning Des.

Sorry, I intended to add a clue this morning to kick start things but have been preoccupied. We are trying to get to Italy but it is not looking good.

This airport is many miles from Oz. Northern Hemisphere.

Just reread your post. Not sure if Sumburgh is a guess or an alternative suggestion for our intended destination !!!

Either way, no. Not Sumburgh and Italy didn't happen.

It was a guess; Sumburgh's original terminal was a house next to a parking circle similar to the photo.
Fairoaks operating as normal - you might find someone there willing to take you.
