I’m hearing that the stop work/strike might be going on a bit longer than we all thought.

The CX guys I flew with on the F100 (don't know about the bus) were all excellent operators and nice blokes too from what I saw & what I heard. I think a couple will stick around because it suits their families but most will leave, especially now they have seen how the place is run & I don't blame them. I am glad I left but I do miss the crew up front & in the back too. Good luck guys.

Goodluck guys, we are all behind you. If there ends up being a go fund me I’ll happily throw some cash in.

Sorry I missed the news mate. So they are saying the strikes will last for 6 days?

So starting on Wednesday 14 February and ending on Monday 19 February?

Strike breakers

It has now been confirmed that QF is bringing in aircraft from all Australian based subsidiaries during the stop work extension to 6 days. I hope all group pilots think very carefully before accepting these duties!

To the network pilots out there, we salute you! Stay strong. this result will determine the future for our generation and generations to come!

if QF get a favourable outcome from an Intractable bargaining determination they will play absolutely dirty with both the upcoming SH and LH negotiations. Make no mistake this is a canary in the coal mine.

Both the board and management long ago have stopped seeing their employees as assets but costs that must be minimised. Now is the time to show them the value you contribute by withdrawing your labour.

Qantas’ half yearly results are also due out next week and rumours indicate it’s gonna be another motza profit.

The point every Network pilot is missing is that you only exist in the Qantas group because you are cheap. 50% cheaper, less the bonuses paid to your management for screwing you even further.

You can walk around Perth with a beard dressed like a Qantas pilot, and the company will dangle the carrot of you replacing the 50 or so 737s which will be retired, but it all comes down to price.

If you continue to be cheaper than mainline, then the world is your Oyster. If not, ultimately, you will be in a dying operation like Qantas short-haul is now.

You took the early commands on offer, you undercut everyone else in the industry. Thats your lot now. Your kidding yourself otherwise.

It's about time Qantas pilots were allowed beards

There’s cheap and then there’s being below award. The fact that Qantas turns a blind eye to that fact is a disgrace as I’m sure their (management) salaries are all above award rates.

Will the Qantas pilots ever get over the “they took MY command” thing? It’s getting so boring now. Jetstar offered and still offer the MOU so it’s not like they didn’t have a chance.

Agreed. Network pilots should take a substandard deal in terms of pay and conditions because this will be fantastic for the wider industry's pilots and the QF group specifically. In addition, it's important for us to take sarcastic digs at other pilots for perceived industrial slights now that they are doing what the other 95% of pilots in Australia should have done a long time ago to prevent the further erosion of conditions across the industry. Thankyou for your 5-star, triple-A rated comment.

It’s a little more complex than that. I would agree with that assessment pre-pandemic, but the market has changed. I think it would be more accurate to suggest that the ‘cheap’ subsidiary pilots have enabled the groups route structure to be exactly what it is now, while giving the return to shareholders ( mainly executives?) that it has.
Now here we are in 2024 with the number of pilots we have, and the route structure we have.
Should the board
A) Cut the subsidiary pilots loose now that they are becoming more expensive ( in line with the labour market in general) ?
or
B) Pay what the market demands and maintain current route structure and market share?

Option A has several predictable outcomes;
1/ Another media storm and probable court actions that Hudson is trying to avoid.
2/ An inability to hold onto several key customers in West Australia without causing cancellations around the rest of the country.
3/ An opportunity for the no.1 competitor to dive in and gain market share immediately resulting in a stronger competitor over the next few decades.
4/ An inability to continue with the SH A-320 training schedule as planned without, again, causing widespread cancellations around the network.
5/ Brand damage due cancellations exacerbating the loss of market share mentioned in 3.

I would have suggested that Kaboobla was executive management trying to sew seeds of doubt but I don’t think so, holding fast to paradigms of old rather than assessing the market in its current state is more of a pilot trait than that of a business exec.
