Fair cop.i appologise. I don't like his take on it- "Ism" implies an ideology- it's not. It's a theory based on observation.

Still, obesity has more to do with environment than genes, so we are not killing the problem by letting THIS generation of fatties die.

The UK has reopened , back to near normality ,with over 80% vaccinated at the cost of around 200 deaths a day , almost exclusively in the unvaccinated.
Thats where we are heading.
And not before time……

Don't speak for everyone. There are more than enough people who are in total or partial agreement with Mutely. Quite a lot simply choose not to engage in pointless discussions as it is pretty clear by now that no argument can convert true believers of either side. Plus it is problematic to be an open heretic nowadays as the risk of being cancelled is high. But ultimately I am of the firm belief the nature will take its course and sort us all out in the end.
On the topic, luckily there are plenty of airlines who officially took a sensible approach to this matter, so there are (still?) alternatives to the righteous mob culture.

Fair enough.
It boils down to this. Want a roster next month ?
Get vaccinated.
Want a pattern including Singapore , the US or Europe ?
Get vaccinated.
Want to eat out in a slip port in NSW , VIC , Singapore anywhere in Europe etc etc ?
Get vaccinated.
But its your call……
After all , it is a government conspiracy……..

Not sure what the argument is about here anymore. The time to swing the fence sitters passed weeks ago, you are either vaccinated, booked for it, or are going to face the virus with your naked immune system. If you have not already started the process of getting vaccinated you have chosen to be unvaccinated when the country opens up in a couple of months.

As far as companies mandating the vaccine, the boat has sailed, it's happening. Almost all companies that have surveyed their staff have come back with similar sentiment to the Qantas one. All with single digit numbers against, so you will most likely be without an aviation job in the not too distant future if you want to take that stance.

If you want to fight the beast, you will be in a group of people you can count on one hand in most large companies, and considering people look at this as the way back to work and getting paid I'm pretty sure most will react like the Qantas crew have towards their mates in defiance. I guarantee there will be a conspiracy against you if you become vocal against these measures. It's a pretty simple conspiracy of "get vaccinated or Piss off!". It might be sad it has got to this point, but it was always going to head that way.

Wellllll- I have a lot of friends, and family who have had Covid 19 and their "naked immune system" seemed to work quite well. So why is it again that they should be double vaccinated?

Because being vaccinated even after an infection makes you less likely to be reinfected. Reduced Risk of Reinfection with SARS-CoV-2 After COVID-19 Vaccination — Kentucky, May–June 2021It's not an ideal situation with neither vaccination nor prior infection absolutely preventing reinfection, but having the vaccine definitely improves your odds.

Not sure what you are on about, my comment was that those that have chosen have done so. NSW and Vic will hit 80% double vaxxed in the coming months so there's no more need for anyone to spruik the values of vaccinating or not. You either have or have not.

To make it simple for you, the intent was to say that arguing against vaxxing or vaxx mandates is just screaming at the moon now. What will happen is in motion and the time for debate about it passed a month ago, everyone else just wants to go back to work. So a friendly reminder that standing up against what most perceive as the way out will just make you hated among your peers, not some folk hero on horseback. The govs even moved on with, "well that was bad, hope you're all vaxxed, and here's some nuclear submarines...."

PS at least the nutters out there will be distracted by nuclear submarines for a while rather than vaccinations, so we can get bombarded by floating Chernobyl quotes on other media.

Why should they be double vaccinated..... perhaps because that is what their employer requires. You may not like it and it may conflict with the hours of research that you have done that means you know more than the collective scientific and medical knowledge from the last couple of hundred years but the Company has decided they require the vaccine for employment. Now if you don't want it feel free to go out and find an airline that will employ you without the vaccine, it really is as simple as that. The vast majority of employees want everyone vaccinated, the government wants aviation workers vaccinated and the the courts are likely to confirm an employers rights to require vaccination. So feel free to tell your friends they DO NOT have to get jabbed...... unless they want to work for Qantas.

The "collective scientific" community consists of people just like you and me, afraid to lose their jobs and forced to toe the line "or else". This has been proven time and time again recently with multiple high profile cancellations. You cancel enough noisy people and, voilà, your "collective scientific" community suddenly takes whatever shape is needed.

The vast majority of people in middle ages wanted witches to be burned. Should everyone just accept blindly what the majority wants? This is a very dangerous line of thought.
Totally agree, presently in Australia seeking an alternative means of subsistence is the only real way out, but I think things will inevitably change in the near future.

Ollie Onion - tsk tsk tsk. I don't work work for quaintass, so I don't give a toss about what your employer says. Don't you even question these things though? Being double vaccinated doesn't stop spread. See what's happening in Israel and Iceland etc. Why is there a push from these companies to mandate vaccination to their employees. I don't get it.

De_flieger - The point is - if you have had Covid and recovered, then I wouldn't be worried about getting it again, cause why would it kill you the second time around?

Because the varient you get the second time will be different from the first- but even that's not the point- even if it doesn't kill YOU, you can pass it on the someone it DOES kill.

When did it become so popular to not give a sh1t about anyone else?

There's no guarantee that it won't kill you, or simply have enough severe effects you lose your medical either temporarily or permanently. It looks less likely to have severe effects or kill you, I understand, as there is some protection based on the first infection, although that appears to decrease with time and is an active area of research. That said, while there aren't large numbers of deaths among the reinfection groups in studies that I have seen, there are certainly covid fatalities due to reinfection.

If you've survived one car accident (as most people do), would you recommend getting in a second car accident based on the survival rate of the first?

REALLY? So you don't agree with the collective scientific knowledge around pandemics, vaccines and public health measures from the past couple of hundred years. Honestly if you take your attitude then we shouldn't trust anything anyone says about anything. Perhaps when I was at University I would have been better off just sitting in the lectures shouting 'bullsh*t' at the biased and manipulated lecturers trying to pass on knowledge.

No, you shouldn't 'blindly' accept what the majority wants but in this case most people have come to the conclusion that the Covid Vaccine is a very important tool in the control of this pandemic, that thinking is supported by vast amounts of peer reviewed research and medicinal trials. It is your line of thinking which is the 'outlying' view on all of this, I will defend your right to think whatever you want but unfortunately your thoughts will have an impact on your life and how it will be lived going forward for a good number of years. That is your choice.

My understanding was that reducing the spread was the minor consideration, reducing the severity of it the major consideration regards the ability of the medical system to cope.

For a company pure publicity - if the majority of Australians see the benefits of vaccination then that same majority would probably prefer to fly with an airline with vaccinated staff, cue the kids choir singing away with needles sticking out of their upper arms at various world locations....or whatever else the ad factories come up with to flog the idea/association.

Poster #506 presented it simply - either be part of getting vaccinated or face restrictions, it really is as simple as that. Sometimes (perhaps rarely) life can be as simple as that.
If you choose to not vaccinate then live/die/exist by your choice....but don't be surprised if the vast majority don't really care.

Hey Ollie

Dont confess to having gone to university.
To the true believers that just proves you are part of the conspiracy.

No, it really doesn't. Now you're just showing that you've never worked in a research field. It might make you feel smarter or more in control, thinking that all the scientists are just sheep following a party line so they don't lose their jobs while you know the only truth is coming from the YouTube videos you've found, but that is just a way to feel better in uncertain times. Calling out dangerous misinformation isn't a high profile cancellation, even if people might like to claim that as a way to defend themselves when they are called out for spreading lies.

But the second part of your paragraph is correct, in that a lot of high profile noisy people, loud and proud anti-vaxxers, have spent a couple of quiet weeks on a ventilator lately before gaining a more permanent silence. Turns out the virus didn't care about their political views or facebook memes, it cancelled them anyway. Now *that* is cancel culture....
